j. brown is crap. a true CHF isnt as important as it used to be, but having 2 or 3 big talls to kick to are. and no, robbo isnt a tall. at the moment we only really have neitz, with robbo trying to be another tall....

relegate the bastards doesnt matter where to or who replaces them. just get them trying to win. but this should be reserved for teams who are crap consistently - ie to stop them doing a st kilda or a carlton

the thing i like about bailey is i dont think he will be so concerned with the result as much as the process.....getting better and better individually and as a team...every game. if this process results in us winning this preseason monkey cup, then great, but if it doesnt, its all about getting better anyway!

yes, i do wish i had seen flower play. i also wish id been around in the 50's. i certainly didnt mean to deride or cheapen those players! im simply saying that 5 or 6 great players in one team makes life easier for eachother and for themselves, and thats why teams do win flags, because they have 5 or 6 great players. but remove 4 or 5 of those players, and you are left with just one great player, and suddenly the team becomes mediocre - no matter how good the player is. skipper certainly hasnt been surrounded by 4 or 5 other great players during his career, and still we love him so. i guess i was a bit hasty and rash to say he was our best player ever though...

ah well my first dees game was the game when longmire kicked about 15 million at the g back in 89...and i was in prep back then. i would argue this, simply because its harder to truely show your class when you are surrounded by muppets. a good player in a great team becomes a great player, and a good player in a [censored] team becomes a lesser player. neita has achevied his fantastic record throughout 16 years of average or sub-average teams. for example, blake caracella. average player in a great team, and therefore made to look fantastic in 2000. imagine if neita had an all-star midfield to give the ball to him on a plate at fullforward and he kicked 90 goals every year. would we be discussing this if that was the case? having said that, i wouldnt have him in that line up myself - although i never saw any of them, bar lyon, play. and i would still say that neita has a better record than lyon. i guess this is where our definitions come in - i said greatest, not most talented. still, im getting #9 put on the back of my 150 jumper, i do love the guy, haha

neita is argueably our greatest footballer ever. however, a captain should be selected according to the aspired values of the team and the club as a whole - the captain should best embody those values. media savvy, should have [censored] all to do with it. for example - if the sole aspired value of the team and the club was to work hard, then you would pick the person who works hardest to be the captain. neita embodys everything the club should aspire to be - hard working, skillful, a team-player, an inspiration and an all round legend. if he wants to be captain it should be his. if he doesnt - the person who best embodys the clubs values should be selected. in my opinion this would be brock or jones.

i think whatever happens next year we wont be left wondering. for me, the most frustrating thing about the dees is that they never seem to be going 100% totally flat out...sure if you are in crap form and cant kick you cant kick, but ffs you can always chase and tackle and shepherd and apply pressure to the opposition - no matter how good you are. and i really think that we will have a [censored] good dip under bailey. then even if we come 15th, at least we can say, well, we were [censored], but we really did do our best. ps this is why i still love simon godfrey

as long as we can share our [censored] (ie, knowledge and training facilities) with the melbourne storm ( who are good btw) we should be fine. netballers, no offence girls, but they are not on the same level....its still an amateur competition with girls who have to go to work to earn a living - by this i mean legitimate jobs - and while they might be the best in the world at what they do, they arent on the same level as us and the storm. AND YES I THINK WE CAN LEARN PLENTY FROM MELBOURNE STORM

the thing is every club gets money from the AFL - be it tv rights etc etc etc - and these are not just your 1/16th share. not sure how they deal it out, but when teams like carlton are getting more money from that than the dees are inc our extra million, i dont see the problem. there was a thread with these details not so long ago - cbf finding it though. so if you want to put some pride back into the club and not put our hands out - well we are just doing the same as every other club, arent we?
