i disagree. with andy d. only having a set amount of $ would FORCE teams to innovate. it would be about spending that money wisely and efficiently, doing the most you can with those dollars. personally id set the cap at say $20 million and include the footy dept and the players in it. want to top up hard to go for a flag? get rid of some coaching staff. want the best coaches to develop your (cheap/young) players? get rid of a star player.

we are SO going to lose.

A team is a team when members of the team self sacrifice in order to achieve the team's goals. A successful team is one where this self sacrifice is valued highly. eg. shepherding. Shepherding is the act of taking a bump or bumping in order to allow a team mate more time with the ball. It's a simple thing but allows the player with the ball more time to deliver and therefore deliver more accurately and efficiently than he would otherwise have under pressure. We bemoan lack of skills but we never do stuff like this!

The problem is that if we had better Time slots and fixturing we would have more supporters and more money to help us play better football. But we don't so we can't get as much money into our football dept as others who do, and of course they keep winning and get more prime time slots. Vicious cycle.

ive long thought that caro has no idea how a team environment works. she certainly hasnt ever been part of one. she writes articles saying "so and so would be upset by this" - eg how our developing players by playing them out of position has "wrecked their careers" - but this is the nature of any team sport. you play where youre told to and where you have to do to do your job for your team, even if it isnt where you think your best position is. kids in the under 10s know this, but she has no clue.

she has had a vendetta against essendon ever since they sacked that white knight who played at richmond. interesting.
