  1. I didn't realise his stats were so poor, but I noticed three things. A very strong contested mark against a big pack. A 60 m goal shot, and a very aggressive attack on one of our players, whom he dwarfed. Georgiou outplayed a couple of top class AFL forwards early this season, if I remember correctly, so perhaps it wasn't a disgrace to concede honours to him( though that wasn't obvious to me) I couldn't help feeling, watching him in that dominant performance by Box Hill, that there was a guy who we could use if Hogan doesn't come up. I guess my real point is, we should study Box Hill closely. There could be players there that can't break into their strong AFL side, that could shine for us. Someone else mentioned how we got Brett Lovett. Sydney secured Josh Kennedy. Players aren't happy playing multiple VFL games , repeatedly being in the "best players",with no hope of senior selection. So despite the fact this is an "embarrassing thread", I think there's some food for thought, JV7.
  2. On the rare occasions Casey are on ABC , I watch them. I was very aware of how much our reserves were outclassed by Hawthorn's on Saturday.I thought Grimley really stood out above any of our tall forwards. Why isn't he in Hawthorn firsts? Who would he displace? Roughead,?Breust?Gunstone? Perhaps Hale or Ceglar. But MacEvoy would be ahead of him, and so would Lowden. If he wants to play regular AFL, he's at the wrong club.
  3. He looked like a potential AFL power forward to me when representing Box Hill yesterday. Also Hallahan and Kelly.
  4. Look hard at Hawthorn reserves(Box Hill) Grimley is big, strong, aggressive, and skilled. There's no likelihood of regular senior selection.... their forward line is settled . Hallihan is a tough "in and under" midfielder with little hope of regular AFL selection in the foreseeable future. I met Jordan Kelly, and he intimated to me that a few of their players are frustrated with being regularly in the best, with little hope of promotion.
  5. -----------------------------------------Also, a lot of our good passages of play were started by quick handballs from Jordie McK.
  6. also, a lot of our good passages of play were started by quick handballs from Jordie McK.
  7. I reckon a few of those chest marks were spoiled because the recipient slowed down, or waited, for the ball to arrive, instead of accelerating to "meet" the ball. It was obvious watching from high up in the stands. I found myself yelling " meet it!" at our players as they waited for the ball to arrive.
  8. I don't . .The longer Salem is on the ground, the more goals he's likely to kick.
  9. It doesn't sound like Brian Dixon to me, to boast that he was BOG in the GF.He always played well, but I think most people considered Bluey Adams as BOG that day. I certainly did.
  10. Who's on Swannie? Can we get Simon Godfrey back?
  11. I thought Cheney played well tonight. He always seems to get a good opponent, but gets plenty of the ball, and has good disposal. I think GWS would have beaten the Hawks today if Cheney wasn't playing. BTW , Bennell wasn't the Eagles' worst and Scully wasn't Gws's.(though I wish he was!)
  12. Does anyone know if there is a radio broadcast of this game on some obscure FM station?
  13. Oh.... I thought every game was the same.!!!...Significantly, it was on the same ground, after Coll. had a week's rest. I'm not saying it suggests we're premiership favourites , but perhaps the Adelaide effort was more important than we think.
  14. If Salem's on for the whole game , he should get 3 goals, on form.
  15. We beat the Crows over there. The brilliant Pies, so good they can' t pick a whole lot of stars, get beaten by 4 goals, though big Tex was a liability!
  16. Watching he Saints v. Carlton on TV tonight, there's not enough difference between the outfits. Dark blue and black are indistinguishable. From behind, StK players look more like Carlton, and vv.
  17. I can see that it could be risky to run full pelt at the bloke with the ball when " play on " is called, but to move forward a few steps would make him either try to evade and kick quickly, or kick higher than usual to try to avoid the outstretched arms of the approaching man on the mark.
  18. Can anyone tell me how to fix it when you make a typo in the topic heading!!??
  19. I think I understood that, though I only played B grade amateurs!
  20. Have other Demonlanders noticed that players on the mark don't seem to notice when the ump yells " play on". ? The guy on the mark could run forward, and possibly even spoil, but he waits back, allowing his opponent to kick easily over his head. I only notice this when I'm watching the TV replay. Perhaps the TV audience can hear a lot better than the players, because the umps are " miked up".l
  21. It's definite now, there's something wrong with the throw ins. It's the same every week. The boundary umps are slinging it one handed, then turning to admire their work..which is sub standard. It was repeatedly happening last night v. The Bulldogs. We should plant someone ( brave) in front of the ruck -men, so he can either tap it out uncontested, or get a free
  22. In response to Steve the man Jordan" post 281 (I pressed "quote" but it won't....what am I doing wrong?) I seem to remember a game early in Morton's career, when he tagged Goodes, and beat him.?On the MCG, . Does anyone else recall this? I may be wrong. Perhaps that's why some people (like me), started getting optimistic about Cale. (It's irrelevant to this thread, but I definitely remember Simon Godfrey, killing Goodes , and Goodes getting so frustrated he disgracefully crashed him in the back behind play.) Like all Melbourne recruits, Cale had no luck with injury, not being able to do a pre season till at least his third year.
