  1. Only if the Ball hit the post, not the player. The ball didn't hit the post. But I think it may have crossed the line between the goal and point posts. There was no "on the line " replay to check this. Healy couldn't wait to announce..."THAT'S A GOAL!!!"
  2. Umpiring: What about the Goldstein free at the centre bounce when the ump. bounced it badly, Gawn had to run 6m. to compete, and touched Goldstein.? Should have been a re bounce. No.. a free , then a mysterious 50m., and... a goal! What about the ruck infringement against Gawn when he was in front, didn't touch Gold... FREE! Goal against the wind. Deliberate against Vince when he obviously tried to find a team mate with a handball while under pressure.....goal to Gibson.Similar ones not paid against North. The Goldstein goal on the goal line. Replayed to determine if the ball touched the post. But we needed a replay to see if it had already crossed the line before that. Harmes' clear, inspiring mark, dead in front. He got a goal soon after with sheer guts, so perhaps that one didn't cost us. 2 goals to North against the wind resulting from definite and obvious throws We must teach our players two detestable skills that Harvey has mastered and taught his team mates. 1./ Duck when tackled to get the free.2/. Dive forwards and flat when tackled from behind to get the "in the back". Don't try to break the tackle. That's about 6 goals they didn't deserve. The better, more deserving side ,lost.
  3. On the Friday night against North there was a gale blowing, which certainly didn't help our play.North were far more experienced, and handled the conditions better. I arrived home after the game to find a huge, heavy window frame blown in. i have no doubt we'd have beaten North in normal conditions.
  4. I refer Demonlanders to the opening post. I worried about the Essendon game on Jan 13th. I was so tempted to take the 5 to 1 offered on Saturday, but I couldn't bet against my own team. Though I'm shattered with the loss, I don't think it's the end of our hopes for improvement. Essendon will beat a few other teams this season when they psyche themselves up to a frenzy like last Saturday.
  5. I thought Earl Spalding must have returned to the club when I saw that heading. We should never have got rid of that guy. Tough? He dislocated both shoulders of a Swan player in Sydney(?Bolton) with one bump. He managed to knee Dunstall's head in.....? Deliberately. Couldn't kick, but a power forward.
  6. The more people booed Scully, the better he played. Let's not fire Messendon up with booing. Let's demoralise them on the scoreboard.
  7. Dustbin Fletcher went to Essendon Grammar, I think, where his Dad was a phys ed teacher, I think. I think the Maddens and Danihers( and many other Ess players) attended St Bernard's.
  8. 12.30 Sunday Interview with Jack Grimes coming up soon on SEN 1116 , if anyone's interested.
  9. Round 2 ,. 2016 Stats Jamar 13 marks, 37 hit outs, 10 kicks , 10 handballs,6 goals straight. It's been going to happen for 10 years. At last it will!
  10. The "Age" today proposed a team that was the best Essendon could produce from the players they've got left to choose from. It didn't look too bad to me! Experts are predicting no wins for Essendon this year. Call me a pessimist, but I'm very worried about round 2! Also, it suggests to me that Essendon's full list (for 2017) is pretty formidable , especially compared to ours. How I hope I'm wrong!
  11. Hi Andrew

I have spent half an hour trying to donate(yet another)$25 life membership in anattempt to avoid the vads.

    It's just too difficult.

It rejects my display name and password.

It may be because I refuse to use Paypal.

I tried Amex, since the Amex symbol was displayed.

    Sorry.

I am in credit anyway, but I did want to contribute again.

It's just too hard with your system.

  12. Which particular flag do we sing about? Which old acquaintances shouldn't we forget? Not EVERY heart beats true for the red and the blue.....there are 17 other clubs. The second verse is horribly dated. I say add a second verse about Melbourne Demons trying their guts out as a proud team...that would make the first verse more relevant.
  13. He's already failed at cricket, despite being given unbelievable opportunities. My guess is that it will be the same with footy.
  14. I was at Glenferrie Oval in 1969 when Peter Hudson kicked 16 goals. He started on Tassie, and in the end, we tried about 5 full backs, with no success. But that was unusual. Tassie was very tough, strong and versatile. He was a good mark, and a great drop kick. As Whispering Jack said, he filled in successfully in the ruck or chf when required, but was the top full back of his era.
  15. Only vague memories, Tim. Please remind me who hit him that time.(was it that rough StKilda ruckman who later played for us? I can't think of his name)
  16. Smith got crunched lots of times, and Lockett might have done it, but I think you might be thinking of Sean Wight, who stood in the hole, yards in front of Plugger, on the MCG. Lockett knew he was too late to spoil, so ran full pelt , both knees up , and crashed his back. I reckon it was worth 4 weeks, but the ump didn't even give him 50 m. It ranked with Judd's efforts , as one of the most vicious assaults I've seen on the footy field.
  17. His Dad was one of the most gutsy players I've seen......not just a spectacular mark.He was prepared to stand in "the hole" and be crashed by the on rushing pack, time and time again( a bit like Steven Icke.
  18. The Family Club took a bit of interest, too.
  19. As YOU thought he was.
  20. Actually , Bobby,it should have been 6 in a row. (55,56,57,58,59,60) If only we hadn't been sucked in by the Pies going the knuckle in 58. If only it wasn't a terrible day, pouring with rain all day, dragging us down to the Mudpies' standard.
  21. I wish there was a "like" button for "like this a lot!"
  22. Eagles by 32. Why??? They beat 'em 3 weeks ago. Hawks can't kick 15.4 every week.(if they'd kicked 10.9, last week, they'd probably have lost) WCE have 2 Demon supporters(Gaff and Shuey) WCE play pretty well on the G. Hawks have played 3 finals, and a couple of them are under injury clouds. Hodge took a really heavy head knock last week, as well as a leg injury.WCE had a week's rest. There's a WA ump out there to make sure they get a similar deal to what they get at Subiaco. The "web".....which we are copying in 2016. Anyone else prepared to stick their neck out and tip against the favourites?
  23. Didn't Doug Nicholls play for Fitzroy?
  24. He did the same thing to Simon Godfrey when he was being beaten pointless( yes, Godfrey killed him, and Robert Harvey, and Mark Riccutto).
  25. I'm not surprised he's having neck surgery. The only thing that surprises me is that he ISN'T having spinal surgery. After most stoppages , he gets up last, after about three oppos. take their arms off his neck, and their knees out of his back. It's either a ball up, or holding the ball against him.. He just shakes his head in disbelief, then gets on with it. Somehow Sellwood throws himself at the ball like Nathan, and gets frees. "Chunk" deserves a Brownlow for courage and persistence beyond that of most players in AFL history.
