It seems so long ago when the great man was strutting his stuff, but then you see him beating Dustin Fletcher and realise just how long that geezer has been going...
-
Of course the problem for Green at the moment is he isnt showing great form or leadership on the ground, I might add.

Does it matter if a captain 'does good tv' or not? How many times have you seen Glass, Cassisi, McVeigh, Boyd etc on TV. I'd rather they lead by example on and off field, not necessarily on camera. Junior was obviously quite media shy and not a 'personality', didnt stop him being a great leader.

The important thing was they were out there fronting the media, pushing our barrow to get more members. Does it really matter if they were asked entirely predictable answers and gave corresponding answers? Some people complain we dont get enough airtime on the various footy shows around, and yet when we do people complain they dont tell us anything we dont already know! Its probably the first time Watts has been on and fronted up to a TV programme since the hulllabaloo after he was drafted died down, so its good to see the club is not hiding him away.

In reality (given McKenzie and Campbell are both named for Casey 2s) it should read: Scully (knee) - 4 weeks Blease (Concussion) - 1 week Strauss (kidney) - 2 weeks Thats the way I read it, any others? Either way its an impressively small list. Scully is the only one of our Best 22 not playing in any grade this weekend.
-
And yet McKenzie is named in the Casey reserves side....

Sack them all!

If the Tigers list is more balanced and experienced than our own, then who are their best 3 players over 23 years of age? And how do they compare with our best 3? Put simply their kids are playing better at an earlier age than ours. And yet they still find room in their side every week for Edwards, King and Brad Miller.

Wow! Cameron Wood, Chris Mayne, Ben Warren, Lachie Hansen, Easton Wood, Josh Hill. There's a team of future Brownlow medallists on their wishlist you could build a team around! These sort of 'non mainstream' sports sites will fill their pages with any kind of drivel that they consider 'an exclusive'

I read the above and immediately thought of Craig Bellamy. This intangible is what has made the Storm such a success over the last 6 years, and why Bellamy is considered one of the elite handful of coaches in that League. He takes washed up or out of favour veterans, and gives them a specific role to perform in the Storms structure. They invariably blossom and shine, and some take the opportunity to move onto different clubs to get a big final payday. But anyone who played under Bellamy and left always recommends other players to move to the club to get the chance to play under him. Needless to say the coach is universally loved and respected. Same goes for Roos.

I've only ever been there for AGMs when they used to be held there, and an hour after the meetings finished it was a bit like a ghost town in there. Zero atmosphere.

Did you count your thumbs as fingers when doing this estimate, or did you have to defer to a mate for the last two?

I think if they really wrote on these pieces what they thought of "Player X"s second efforts, 1%ers and hardness at the contest", it'd just be cheap media fodder for the trash papers to regurgitate. Look at todays Age, a casual opinion/observation Brian Taylor made on a radio show last night becomes back-page news! Other 'journo's' are asking their twit followers what stories they should be running in the next days tabloids. "Demons Not Going Hard Enough - Coach Slams Efforts" would be emblazoned over the back pages otherwise.

Week in week out this year on On The Couch Paul Roos has given some fantstic insights into the way we are playing, as well as the other teams. He's still a fantastic analyser of the way footy is played nowadays with all of the 'presses' etc. Would be more than happy if he were to join us next year. And if some people on here were so confident last week, and indeed last year, that we'd be beaten by the Eagles, how is it they finished stone cold motherless last in '10?
-
Highly doubtful we'll get any decent football out of Jordie till at least mid-June. Look at Frawley, Brian Lake, etc for quality players without a pre-season coming in and struggling...
-
At least he gave that ambulance chasing muckracker that sits next to him the short shrift he deserves...

Rain, Hail, Shine, Mothers Day, Fathers Day, heck even Christmas Day (dont give City Hall Ideas) I'd be there in my seat at the G. Barely missed a game in 30 years, its irrelevant the state, parlous or otherwise of our clubs onfield and off-field fortunes. Youve got to be there to support your team, its always the highlight of the week for me getting to my seat. Heck, theres a guy that sits behind me who's 95 and there every week. I hope I have his staying power! The best banner in recent times was the "FINALS OVER" banner that was unfurled to a scowling mob of Feral Collingwood supporters one fantastic QB...

Whats Bob Skilton upto nowadays? Not much I assume. He was a champion player you dont win three brownlow medals if you dont know anything about coaching the game. Bring him back in for a second crack I say...

Strauss got injured in a training collision with Newton on Weds. there is a thread somewhere on this. 2-3 weeks I believe?
-
Very selective appraisals there! Id hardly seen Cook until that passage of play. Newtons pressure on the defenders carrying the ball out of defence has been a highlight for mine, one lead directly to a goal for him and another a turnover. He's made one mistake that I can see so far! It seems people have already made their mind up about Newton and no matter how many 1%ers or team things he does he'll get criticised. Petterd looks a class above VFL level. Ive had both a Collingwood and Richmond mates text me asking why the hell he's not playing in the seniors, if they can see it why cant our match committee? And yes Tom McDonald looks very very composed. I really like the look of this kid. Blease looks like he's still trying to play under 18 football, just grabbing the ball and running in a straight line trying to take guys on regardless of where his teammates are stationed waiting for it. We have 0 midfield depth right now, Our listed players out there today are either developing ruckmen (Gawn, Spencer), marking forwards (Bate, Cook, Petterd), small forwards (Maric, Jetta), key defenders (Warnock, McDonald, MacDonald) the only guy that could be considered a 'midfielder' is Blease whose a long way off. I think we may need to promote Nicholson or Evan to give us options, otherwise our midfielders can continue to underperform and not feel pressure for their place.

From Natanui's takeaway of the very first bounce, leaving Trengove in his wake, you could tell we were not switched on and it would be one of those nights. And once the ball didnt leave our back 50 for the next 5 minutes you knew the contest was already over.
-
Consider yourself flabbergasted then! No change for the 2nd week in a row, and virtually the same 25. That's 5 from 5 now for Warnock as an emergency!
-
Maybe we should all chip in and buy BP a new TV then....
-
So the Suns have more Home & Away games against Port at FP in five weeks of existence than we have in 11 years?

Notice how there is a considerable gap between how they're all standing together between Tom Scully and the others? I read this as a sign he's not thought of as part of the group, and is itching to get out of the studio and to his 3PM appointment out at the Rooty Hill RSL.
