Umps got it wrong - need a please explain
grazman replied to spirit of norm smith's topic in Melbourne Demons
Absolutely. Insufficient attempt to keep the ball in... by who? At least with the Lever decision there was a Melbourne player in the direction of the handball, whilst the Adelaide player had plenty of opportunity to take possession before the ball went out of bounds but was appealing for the free before it had even crossed the line. -
I don't mind Richo, but the rest offer nothing. The quicker they get the only knowledgable footy person back on the team in Daisy Pearce the better!

Centre Clearances - Considered Analysis Requested.
grazman replied to DEE fence's topic in Melbourne Demons
Well Done Nash. A few points in general, (not specifically about your post) - Viney would have helped, but he's obviously not the reason we're getting beaten in that area because it's been happening for a while and as others have pointed out - how important is it really? The first and second best pressure sides playing each other and we lost 4-17 and yet it really didn't have as much influence on the result as say the weather did. I feel over the last two weeks the opposition have really put a lot of work into us in that area. Guys like Kennedy, Parker and Cunnington are inside specialists and one of the biggest changes this year is we are far more outside the contest than we have ever been. I'm sure it's not the plan to lose centre clearances, but equally you don't want the ball to get outside the contest to clear air for a better kick into your defensive fifty. You can't have both, so how do you set up. I felt last night a lot of Hickey's influence was to keep the ball in tight to get Swans first hands on the pill and they were happy to get the scrambled kick out of the middle where as we flick it around until we can get a more precise kick away. Yes there was a lot of scragging and holding but there always is, it doesn't seem to effect either Oliver or Tracc in how they play. I think Yze has a look, but it's not a huge concern nor do we need to play any trump cards in terms of changing our centre square set ups at this time of year either. Roll on Dees! -
Hmmm not sure about that. It looked like a flick pass to me even though he used a closed fist made marginal contact with the ball. The momentum was generated from the hand holding the ball not the opposite hand - that's not a legal handpass in my book, or at least it wasn't when I played. The hand holding the ball needs to be stationary. I'm surprised at the number of overhead handballs that are allowed as well, this was never allowed 30 years ago. Perhaps I'm showing my age! ?

I thought Petty was targeted by the Swans as the newbie, but didn't back down. He should have been paid that mark in the first quarter as well, but happy the umpires were at least consistent with their interpretations most of the night. Like you say he will improve his synergy with May and Lever over the year, but he's tall, has reasonable kicking skills and is competitive. He'll be better for the experience.

A trip down memory lane - or in my case amnesia lane. I used to split my time between the two sites, but moved full time to 'Land to escape from the demented and fatuous ravings of Rono and his 'Veil of Negativity' - he was completely unhinged. Wish there was an ignore function for particular posters back then.

The Allman Brothers Band Live at Fillmore East. My favourite Stones albums in order, Exile, Let it Bleed, Sticky Fingers, Beggars Banquet.

I should've also mentioned that Jack is being more cautious/sensible in managing his body as well. There's only so many brick walls you can run through before your body says enough is enough!

play on a soon as you look laterally even though you haven't moved off the line of the mark!
-
2-3 weeks is what has been reported, where are you hearing 4 weeks?
-
Have they though? I think it's pretty common knowledge that Jack has issues with his feet that need to be managed. This isn't really that much of a surprise. Just because he's missing a few weeks with a hot spot doesn't mean he's been mismanaged, it's always a watching brief with Jack. That's why it's only 2-3 weeks and not 2-3 months because the club are sensitive to the issue.

I'd drop Baker, he's only VFL standard despite his desperate last quarter effort and speed he's just not up to it. I'd put Brayshaw back on the wing (and Choco to teach him how to handpass with his opposite hand!) and Sparrow to play Viney's role for the next 2-3 weeks. Petty obviously takes Tomlinson's role and I'd bring in Chandler for Jones with Melksham to play sub. Famous last words but I'm confident both Brown and Fritta will be right.

I assume Chandler as the unused Sub from last week plays VFL too.

I think the most likely outcome is we play them at Marvel and they move one of North's home games later in the season to Tassie.

Don't forget Carlton lost as well.

Need to keep things in perspective - until today's Collingwood Essendon game - last night was the biggest crowd since the 2019 GF. Covid is still having an impact. I flew down from Canberra to watch the game, but travel isn't what it was two years ago - there are a lot of reasons why it's hard to draw bigger crowds ATM - including all the contact tracing and other issues compared to just rocking up to the game and buying a ticket at the ground.

T Mac to the wing and Gus replaces Jordon in the midfield rotation.
-
Definitely against the Saints at Docklands. I was at the game and watched our season go down the gurgler after winning the first three games of the season it looked like we were ready to take off. We fell pretty hard!

Thanks mate, finally got it sorted through the club. Will be there with bells on!

There was footage of Neale on the ground holding his jaw prior to them showing the Rohan strike (which was ten or so minutes later). Neale stayed down for a long time and looked in real distress that might have explained why he was so animated with Rohan. A simple round arm to the chest wouldn't suggest him holding up three fingers. A lot will depend on the medical report after the game. I think there's probably some evidence that Rohan did connect with Neale's jaw.

Agree, the Selwood throw is an example of how reticent the umpires are to call this. It used to be that you needed to have the hand holding the ball stationary for it 'not' to be called a throw. Move both hands in unison and you were often called for throwing the ball regardless of the contact you made with the other hand.

Will only let her get one ticket - To be fair the club tried to ring me twice more, but same issue - just asks me to put my phone number in again. Love the Clash and I love Banksy... so it just seemed right!

I live in Canberra and my wife got her barcode, but I didn't get mine. Long story short, they had the wrong credit card details on file, (I updated them in January - and it worked for my wife's membership obviously). Anyway four attempts to ring the club (two return calls that simply ask me to enter my phone number again and then end) and three emails later and still nothing. I know they must be short staffed, but I'm getting the sads!
