  1. This is why Carlton have such a sh1te recruiting record. "I'd certainly rather be picking at six than one – it's a pretty good field this year." Possibly the dopiest comment of all time. Ever since they cheated and got number 1 pick last year + stopped us from getting pick 2 this year, they are in the gun. a Few injuries to that team, and they will be tanking before you know it.
  2. Apparently when Barassi came back to coach Melbourne, Baker thought his days were numbered. Barassi announced he wanted all Melbourne players clean shaven and working outside of football. Garry said he had a full length beard and was unemployed at the time.
  3. Guy guys, have a think here. Melbourne have had talent in the last 20 years, but have only rarely showed a team unity and professional in brief glimpses when we have had good seasons. We need to recruit with character in mind. I like the sounds of our freshest recruits who sound more discilplined, blokes like Morton, Grimes, and if we get him, Watts looks a great role model. As we get rid of Nathan Carroll, why bring in blokes who don't turn up to training ? I say stuff him. he is not a gun like Kerr. forget him. we must see the bigger picture.
  4. Biff was the greatest, hence my username. He once threw Robbie Muir over the fence, so they don't get much tougher than Ray. Was almost the perfect footballer, and devilishly handsome.
  5. next
  6. The tankers have no KPP and will be spectators for a lot of this draft. Still a long way to go for them.
  7. Yes we are not attractive to players sitting on the bottom. answer this though - how many tall skinny ruckamn have played in premierships in the last 10 years? it will help Carlton now becasue they have no ruck division, but it was well over hyped when the guy was not getting a game ahead of Kepler Bradley. We have 3 top 20 picks and thats good for our future.
  8. No, I would think his lack of leadership qualities and 9 years on inconsistent performance would be the actual reason. He would only be considered purely because there are few options available for the job.
  9. we must have players who can kick, and bruce is one of our worst kicks. if we got a second rounder offered for him, i would take it. all other aspects of his game are very good, good mover, reads the play very well, exceptional motor...but cannot kick !! We cannot move forward with blokes who cannot kick !!
  10. Green has been 'gutsy' for one year IMO. We do need to have a ruthless attitude and if something decent is offered for Green, I think we should take it. I am thinking around pick 20 would be fair. I don't really care to watch us with Wheatley, Bruce and Green carrying the load if we finish last again. reality is we will almost definitely be bottom 4 next year, so lets invest in the best young players we can find. The Hawthorn model sounds good to me. get some tough skilled young players at almost any cost, then we can have a real tilt once they have a few years under their belt.
  11. Yes, exactly.
  12. Based on last nights performance against Hathorn - NO WAY IN HELL!!! Soft as TJ and Yze. Same problem arose as earlier in the year when he got dropped. Too one dimensional, has great skills but Bateman, Sewell and Osborne from Hawthorn were all worth more when the heat is on. Nope - draft the young kids and look for hard nuts who can kick properly !!
  13. Yes difference between Bailey and Daniher, is Bailey did not play him and went for youth. Had little influence on games in his last years. I am still tainted by the images of Yze playing against Adelaide round 21 2006 I am afraid. I don't think I have been so disappointed in our softness since the Simmonds incident in the 2000 grand final. good player in his hey day but too many weaknesses for mine. Glad we are moving into a new era, put it that way.
  14. More than happy with his progress this year in a poor side. Could not really ask for more and his standing in the rising star belied his year on the field. played a few top games that stamped his class and kicked goals as well. He already is getting a lot of the ball and we know he is a beautiful kick although he did not always show it this year. Will be a star once he fills out. most recruiters rated him very highly and we can see why. needs a couple of pre-seasons to build up a bit now.
  15. why would I be embarrassed ?
  16. From Haydo on Demonology... I wandered down to watch the main man in action today with my old man. Jack played about 90% of the game, rotating from CHF to midfield. I counted his stats as: -14 kicks -8 handballs -7 marks (including 3 very nice contested pack marks) -3 goals, 1 point -quite a few assists Though i may have missed a couple. Final score was Geelong winning by about 10-12 points. Jack oozed absolute class today. He has a massive engine. When he played midfield, he had a guy a lot shorter trying to tag him who just couldn't keep up with him. When Jack possessed the ball, he just seemed to have forever to dispose of the ball. His reaction time was so quick and his skills are sublime. He has a trademark baulk or two when surrounded by players, that most of the time gives him more time to open up the play and pass off the ball to a teammate in a better position, with either hand or either foot. His pinpoint passing on his non-preferred left foot today was unbeleivable to watch for a bloke of 194cm (and growing). He has awesome evasive skills. He kicked one goal with ease from outside 50 from a mark and another on the run from a boundary throw in (again from outside 50) reminiscent of one Matthew Pavlich, that was drilled through the middle, that had class class class written all over it. He did some magical things today that had my mouth watering and had my dad and i in awe, like pivoting and evading players like Hird or TJ does. He is good. The only dissapointing thing was that he spent so long on the ball. I would have liked to have seen him up forward more as the main target. His spring and speed is very good, but i didn't think he pushed hard enough for leads today or ran into space enough. He seemded to just float into space a lot, present and take the mark naturally, rather than having to work his butt off to get into space to get his possessions. These things can be taught and worked on i suppose. For mine he was BOG for Sandy. Tyronne Vickery played quite a good game as well, kicking two goals when pushed forward and was very clean with his possessions. Tap work was good as was his below the knees work. He will be a star. He will go top 7 for sure. I said to my old man that i wouldn't be suprised he we seriously looked at him for our number 1 pick. Dean Bailey was seated close by us, sitting with Predergaust, Leoncilli and one other unknown. I had a quick chat at 3/4 time with them and i fecetiously asked them if they were here to watch our number 1 draft pick. One of them replied they were here to watch number 11 and number 8 (Watts & Vickery). When i asked them why Watts was playing in the midfield, one answered that they were a little dissapointed he was spending so much time in the midfield, as they wanted to have a good look at him up forward. On another topic, i know for a fact that the possibility of Bruce or Green being traded has been discussed by the powers that be. The main barrier with Bruce is that he is on a huge pay packet that is over the odds for his current market value Unbelievable. So if we were to trade him, we would have to pay part of his salary for the 1 year remaining of his contract, the same as we did with TJ. With Green, negotiations are stalled for 2 reasons. As reported, he wants 3 years and much much more than we are prepared to pay. I can tell you for certain that there are some movers and shakers at the club that want to move Bruce on for either a fair draft pick or an up grade of our 17th or 19th pick. Watch this space. Carroll will again be offered up for trade for anything that we can get, unfortuately probably like last year no one will want him. The swapping of picks 1 and 3 for Warnock is rubbish. We are doing our utmost to get him for free in the pre-season draft. Carlton are also in to him in a massive way. Don't let the brotherly love thing come into the equation, he is not ours just yet. He is coming to Victoria for sure, but to the highest bidder it appears. Mark Harvey was also in attendance. To summarise, i think on todays performance alone, we must take Watts. He has a lot of tricks up his sleeve for such a big boy and he is below age with a lot of filling out to do. He has so much time and awareness, which is a rare commodity and a sign of a great player, combined with his unique skill and contested marking attributes. Lock it in, he is our man.
  17. btdemon, I am guessing that kid was Michael Hurley, right ?
  18. young gun players coming through. Tell me who was attracted to Carlton prior to Judd coming there. Once the ball starts rolling, players want to go there. Hope to hell Freo demand top compensation and make them pay. don't reckon pick 24 will get them signing him over.
  19. Thats right, the Carlton and Hawthorn model works, its just the Carlton are [censored] at it. Lets watch them improve to around 9th next year then start to plateau out. we need pick 1 this year plus another couple of very high picks next year to add to Morton, Grimes, Mclean. Make no doubt about it, we follow this model and we will build a top 4 side.
  20. Mike heahan, tell us something we don't know. nice to pluck out of few stats and make it look like it was well researched. Insight = nothing. Next.
  21. here is a HUN report. what are you blokes on about ? http://www.news.com.au/heraldsun/sport/afl...5015509,00.html
  22. thats right demonologist. We also lost games we had in the bad with seconds left in the game. Essendon and North come to mind. We have to move on. looking forward to get the number one pick this year.
  23. "So with all the hoo-hah about this, the question is will Warnock be worth all the fuss?" DemonDave, I agree with you. Let's open up the discussion on whether he can play, and how good he is? I have only seen him once and he looked suprisingly co-ordinated to me, but skinny as a rake. He also showed real desire to make body contact in packs which was good. But having said that, how many tall gangly ruckman play in premierships? You have to go back to year 2000 and John Barnes as an example of an athletic type who wasn't that big. Normally they are ruckman who are good in the crash and bash of centre clearances. Look at Hawthorn, and their ruckman are average in other areas. I am really 50/50 on him. Let's not just get him because he is cheap. Ruckman are usually a big investment in time.
  24. No way in hell would we want to take Fisher, he is a hack of the highest order. Carazzo is Italian for turnover. We would want pick 23/24 from Carlton for Brad Green and perhaps a young player. Either that or pick 17+ Green for pick 6. maybe throw in pick 18 as well to sweeten the deal.
