that is very very interesting. I have used that Port game as an example many times. we absolutely shellacked them first half and should have been 10 goals up. but all the games since then seemed to be like another team out there, we went back into our shell, and by the end looked cooked. I like many just was stunned by those last few games.
-
if we make finals I would call it a resounding success, we needed leadership, in fact we were begging for it. Don't forget how many games last year where we jus could not stop the onslaught. You may not realise how often he senses the other team getting a run on and starts defending against it. We have had no idea how to do that until this year. In the first 12 games no-one really got hold of us and Lewis was a key difference (Hibberd as well).
-
yep we can only go on what we are seeing and his first year is a massive tick for me. absolute leader out there.
-
everyone who has said Lewis was finished last week, please hope on board and give us your view.
-
The assertion is not an insult to our leaders at all. Have a look at our record with those leaders in the team over the past few years. Lewis has been critical to us when the game is going against us. Far to often when the momentum swings like the 2nd quarter on Monday, we have curled up our toes and got shellacked. Goodwin will have him as one of the first picked every week.
-
Its why Hawthorn were so effective yet not winning the clearances. You can shut down the opposition in other ways. and when he gets his kicking game going he is vital to setting us up. will be top 5 in our B and F this year.
-
go watch the replay and concentrate on his defensive efforts, his positioning and being a key to stifling Collingwood in the second half. As someone on here said, you don't have to have the footy to be effective. He could do the same game again and he will not be dropped.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - MICHAEL HIBBERD
Bay Riffin replied to KC from Casey's topic in Melbourne Demons
if he just looked to 'draw' the contests he would tackle more I think, but if his opponent isn't marking it his aim is to beat him and gain possession. We have a beauty here. -
Yep credit where credit is due. We just want to see it more than one week. big game against the doggies, so we will see if he can back it up.

good luck getting Essendon to pay anyone for any wrong doing. -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - STEVEN MAY

I was thinking the same thing. OMac is probably going to give more than Weideman as a forward and TMac can go back a bit more depending on the side. Would work for Collingwood with Frost taking Moore. -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - STEVEN MAY
Bay Riffin replied to DemonLad5's topic in Melbourne Demons
It would be hard for the hawks but may I say how incredibly terrible for the league and a vomit in the mouth moment if Hawthron after acquiring Lake from the struggling Doggies, then acquiring Frawley for the struggling Dees (and acquiring premierships because of it), then just go and get a third key back in May. How sickening that would be, if its not already showing how free agency is the catasptrophic flaw in evening up the competition. Seriously Hawthorn have no objective to develop through the draft, to develop Hawthorn players. just pillage other teams lists and the AFL rules are to blame. and its sickening to watch. -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - STEVEN MAY

May looked very quick and is a decent kick with a good grab. He and TMac would be a strong combo against talls, and both have very good pace. -
When things got tough against the Saints where was Kelly?. but im sure if they had their full side in and pumping the saints he would have looked a millions bucks. a very good outside runner but not worth close to a million. go for a lesser priced fast finisher and throw good money at a key back.

Guy has Pace and far greater intensity.

I thought he was one of our worst offenders on Monday night. He always seems in slow motion, and his kicking efficiency is low. Im now wondering about the trade for picks 2 which netted Kelly for GWS. Although salem I am happy with who's hands are elite. We sort of need Tyson to be our last picked midfielder, but his lack of pace is a worry.

The Petracca v McCartin debate reprised
Bay Riffin replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Well said. Geez there appears little latitude for players these days. Harmes is a great example. not the greatest kick but has played with ferocity and dare and to me appears to keep improving and most importantly gets the ball. Most on here would never have kept with Nathan Jones who 'lacked awareness', was a poor kick and got caught all the time. similair to hawks mates who kept saying Lewis was a turnover merchant (and was). Thank god they are not coaches and realise you can actually learn this game and iron out weaknesses. -
The Petracca v McCartin debate reprised

Roos didn't rate Petracca best in the draft. It was Heeney we bidded for with pick 2. -
GWS strike rate at the draft under SOS was poor. You would hate to think if they were even above average at drafting. Their concessions and ongoing academy picks are stunningly excessive.
-
you obviously don't watch Kennedy closely who is the master of keeping the ball alive in tights positions and releasing it to his teams advantage. His first hal in the grand final was as good as you will ever see. Clarry will be doing well to reach that level.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - MICHAEL HIBBERD

absolutely. Having both Hibberd and Salem in our backline would make a significant change, more deadly by foot and both hard at the contest. -

Roos has done the opposite, being very bold this year with the youngest side most weeks. We've had 4 picks in the top 10 last two years. we could have traded in more senior players for those picks if we chose a faster route (Richmond style). -
WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - CLAYTON OLIVER

I think Vandenburg is the hardest of the lot, the on'es that hurt the opposition the most. -

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - SAM WEIDEMAN
Bay Riffin replied to xman97's topic in Melbourne Demons
I don't quite get your thinking here. I would feel more like that is was Essendon who have picked Parish who looks very good but so slight and there only midfield in their first 4 picks in the top 30. Oliver has played well against men and shone at junior lever, big bodied and looks likely to play in his first year. Weideman I think was selected on gut feel as a very good footballer who has been injured. but who knows he may get to have a full season for Casey. and as a tall with Dawes and Hogan ahead of him, is that such a bad thing? We are picking bigger bodies so we don't have to wait for years.
