  1. just watching him against the Dees last year and this year I was surprised how much toe he has and athletic ability. very hard to match up on. In both matches he found space easily and owned the half forward area, something we really need. Very hard bloke to outmark and seems to have real attitude. I think the biggest advantage is Jurrah will be allowed to play in positions he is equipped for i.e roaming half forward/wing type who won't be asked to play full forward as often. The person who could potentially struggle is Green.
  2. The boy can play. Big blokes like that are gold, but thought the whole reason for him leaving was to go back to Perth. Anyway we would need to give up pick 12 and another decent pick/player I would suggest. And would be happy to.
  3. becasue we have so many big guys to choose from? of course we need to look at more.
  4. You couldnt see watts had v good kicking and handball skills ? His reading of the play was ok I reckon but would not commit to using his body. I would be surprised if you couldn't see a chasm of difference between watts and fitz
  5. please explain? are you talking about signing up for a membership? what agreement are you referring to ?
  6. Yes but you could see Watts had elite skills, nice balance and could read the play ok. watching Fitz in the Casey final against port as well was not encouraging. didn't seem to even be able to hold his feet in marking contests, and reading of the play was poor. Given his kicking skills look well below par I think he will need to show a lot next year to maintain his spot. I am not worried about his size so much as he has filled out a bit already and will build up to a reasonable size, but geez I just don't see it at this stage. Not sure Connoly is a good judge on this one. a couple of bags of goals in the thirds is encouraging but he will need to step it up next year.
  7. Actually it was kick it always to the right to jamar from the kick outs. How did the opposition know ?
  8. I would throw a lot at the swans to get him. reckon he is more talented than Dawes and just as big. We absolutely need a big body up forward and release Watts, Jurrah to play roaming marking roles. Swans would ask a fair bit but these are the blokes you need in finals. We have to start recruiting big guys and sorry I just don't see Cook being stronger than Watts will be. if we don't get a coule of biggers bodies in it is going to be another long year of frustration where our structure falls appart against the bigger sides. FFS MFC stop recruiting bodies like Cook, Morton. we need bigger players.
  9. when he plays with a bunch of youngsters who may not win a game next year, let's see how they go when they want to let off a bit of steam. Gold coast have an impressive list of youngsters and Ablett, but it remains to be seen what GWS will look like. At present it looks like Ward and Scully will be their best midfielders, which gold coast should beat easily.
  10. might as well take that down mate. that guy has a poor reputation for spreading rumours that are not true.
  11. If that is the case, then GWS can go $#%& themselves. The footy club should not pander to one player like this and it is surely now reasonable to have set a deadline and we announce it after developing him for two years. If he is sitting on this and just waiting we should be a lot tougher. His contract finished yesterday and in all reasonableness he should have decided a week ago as he has had offers for months now. His rule of waiting till end of season then deliberating again is only his little rule. Not ours.
  12. Basing our future on Cook who finished in Casey seconds doesn't fill me any great certainty, neither does Fitzpatrick and McDonald as forwards. the rest are ruckman. We desperately need big blokes to kick to under pressure and currently we should not stand to have Watts and Jurrah pretend to be the go to key forwards for 2011. We definitely need to recruit some big and strong men.
  13. doesn't sound good. However, I always read these articles taking into account the journalist involved i.e stick to credible journos and not the unreliably stupid e.g Mark Robinson or John Ralph or Barrett or Hutchy writing this? In this case it's the first two. The worry now of course is every hack journo and others are saying it's a case of Scully gone. so maybe hey are all right ?!?! funnily enough can see this a case of laughing at hack journos calling he is gone like we are, then having to accept they are right !!
  14. it use to be we only played well when it was bruise free footy and when we didn't have to contend with the press. now we are just shizehouzen.
  15. can't watch it anymore. umpiring is atrocious, but so are we. Short summary of that 3rd quarter...Bartram gets ball on wing dummies and creates space to run ahead which he does, then dribbles ball along ground 10 metres away with no-one near him, shocking turnover, Fitspatrick runs into open forward line by himself, dribbles balls off his left with free men everywhere close to goal, Mckenzie handpass out of pack to Trengove in clear runs into open goal 30 metres out and yes, mis-kick to Port player in the square. Guy we are a F$%king train wreck. this is the bottom side. having said that, their goals appear to come from direct free kicks. most one sided umpiring I've seen all year. seen 3 clear frees against Motlop all missed. forward line is a shamble today.
  16. Well there was always talk when he got his last big contract that he was a leader of our exciting young aboriginal talent and vital for them. Well the club cannot be happy with his year. He was no doubt playing injured but his leadership was non existent. He pushed the club for a long term deal but has gone downhill since. When people look at our lack of character and soft tag look no further than Davey. Reminds me of use of yze right now
  17. So can't decide between training sessions hasn't even looked at the contracts but after playing this weekend will decide in a day !! If this reporter is right surely he is gone. If he goes to gws he will go quickly no doubt and avoid mad Monday and everything else.
  18. How do you figure that? We are missing 2 or 3 big blokes for a start, have heavily invested in midfield talent that is getting beaten in clearances by Gold Coast and whoever else we play and have a good promising backline. We only started addressing our lack of key position talls in the last draft and we are missing a few good kickers. our list is promising but hardly without missing pieces.
  19. really good debut by the big guy. seemed quite attacking and made good choices. was found out a bit deep towards goal but overall I reckon the coaches would be happy with his game. Would be nice to develop a genuinely big key defender, in fact it's vital for us as Frawley and Garland time and again have shown they can play on smalls and talls. Also hearing Davis played a great game for Casey, so it is promising for our key position stocks.
  20. if its another 3 months then it sound like ground hog day all over again for Aussie. No way is this just luck. his body was highly likely to get injured after such a lay off. I was expecting it to happen. Grimes is bad luck, but this isn't. he is not conditioned and probably the least fittest at the club. I think he is worth persisting for 1 more year but he would have to be desperate and totally committed. one more year of injury and it's a waste of a valuable spot so he would be lucky to get another year.
  21. what did you base this on ?
  22. was just wondering the same thing myself. we are one of the few clubs who lose complete confidence on our home ground with greater support and we get a few goals down. commentators were already saying 'rabble' and 'coming apart' 10 minutes into the second when really why should we be ? suddenly we get sapped of all confidence when the momentum is against us. what are we - pathetic ? I do wonder. we go to the draft and get truckloads of talent then suddenly cannot improve in our 4th year of rebuild. not only that but we are officially worse than last year.
  23. You want players to play for the coach, but they don’t have to love him. In Wayne Careys recent book he said Pagan would tell them you may hate me, but we will win games of football and mentioned Melbourne under Neil Balme had a coach they loved and were down the bottom. No way were we playing for the coach. Let’s not gloss over the 2nd worst loss in the history of the AFL. We were rubbish and have been rubbish in most of our many losses this year. Let’s not get confused between loving the coach and playing our best for the coach. Bailey time and again failed in our ability to defend and turn things around when the chips were down. Let’s hope we fire a shot this weekend. If we don’t we are in serious serious trouble.
