Do you really think it's that cut and dry? The season could easily be divided up into a period of bad luck with injuries and some close losses and a period of good luck that sees us showing massive improvement but still missing the 8. I'm not accepting mediocrity but there are mitigating circumstances and not making the 8 isn't Goodwins death sentence imo. Collingwood, Richmond, Port Adelaide, many clubs have decided there were enough positive developmental signs to stick it out with their coach for another season despite missing finals. Its all about HOW we play this year.

I suppose after bidding Henry at 8, GCS would've come at us with picks 17+20 to get Flanders. And you have to wonder which of Serong, Picket, Weightman or Kemp would've been there at 17-20. Also Young was 7, so we've picked up Pickett instead of Serong, not Young afaik Edit: Another interesting thing of note is the GCS/Carlton trade could've been about Jack Martin now that GCS have come out and said they won't touch him. Another case in point in relation to our lack of 'shrewdness' - We certainly love to jump out of the way and make sure other clubs get their wins. And yet here we are with pick 2 in the PSD still able to be shrewd and get a free player.

The interesting thing will be averaging it out with next years draft, and if we can get back into the first round or not. Clearly when you take two top 10 picks you're in A territory and awaiting confirmation with form. But the caveat is next year of course. No matter how far we go, we will not be able to acquire much additional firepower without trading an asset/losing a player i think. A 2021 1st round can't be worth that much to trade, if we're back up in that top 8 bracket in 2020.

Same old posters jumping in to attack any criticism of the club. Almost as if they just wait around on this forum for someone to call dumb.
