  1. Nice try Pete, but if it’s still in your system, it is still enhancing performance. When it was taken is irrelevant.
  2. I think some underestimate the advantage gained in mismatches created by moving a player between a KPF role and a midfield role. Forcing the opposition to make changes on the fly is where you create opportunities.
  3. Current value as a KPF who has suffered a season-ending navicular injury? Just think about the perception of that in the marketplace: suffers navicular injury, then quickly put up for trade... I think his value on the market has never been lower. Most clubs would be wary of offering too much.

Most supporters in general, of all clubs in all sports, I think you’ll find.

Yeah, nah. Not really interested in this faux-intellectual’s thoughts on footy. However, I’m available anytime Hock wants a chat.
  6. FFS, my recollection was that I was FOR Melksham’s recruitment. Wonder what I would have said if I was against it!

That’s a very good point. It’s kinda like that patch in the early 60s when our dominance ended, and all the minnows had a crack at a flag. God knows what happened then, but there would be a feeling amongst many that we are missing our chance. Incorrectly, in my opinion.
  8. Is there a point to this..?

I don’t think you understand what I’m saying mate. Simply, if we were interested previously, I doubt we still are.
  10. Its reasons like this that I don’t think we’re half as good as the majority seem to espouse. We’re hugely talented, but that’s only half the battle. We haven’t beaten anyone in the top 8/9? So? What’s the point being made there? Maybe we simply beat the teams we should, and lose to the teams better than us? I don’t think we’re ready, but we’re still building. We’re not a premiership threat unless we hit a purple patch like the dogs 2 years ago, and even then they got all their key players back from injury at the right time.

I can’t be bothered checking, but I’ll take your word for it, and Hannebery is decidedly under contract, so (barring gross ignorance) the rumour appears too unlikely to be made up. However, I believe it to be very very unlikely that we’d still be interested, if we ever were.

How long is it going to take you..?

Stats can help you to understand the game beyond the absolutely superficial, and to predict outcomes. No need for that though, right?

To be fair, it’s possible to get “good mail” on a player without knowing how to spell his name correctly... However this seems unlikely to me.
  15. Potting Hogan is premature and/or misguided. I think he’s carrying an injury.

So... the issue isn’t how Harmes performed during the match, but his attitude after the match..? Right.

Like all those that missed out on Fyfe & Franklin, selected Fiora over Pavlich, left Dustin Martin to pick 3, etc... Weitering at pick 1 hasn’t really come on as expected just yet, and Mills has been serviceable, but imagine being the Brisbane Lions having chosen Shache at pick 2 in that draft. Walked out on them after 2 years, and they seemed happy for him to go. What a blunder.
  18. Is it only shin padding though? Looked to me like his calf was strapped.

No coincidence that Tyson’s improved form has coincided with Viney’s absence, affording him more time in familiar roles. We’ll need him for finals this year, but going forward I’m still see-sawing on what we do with him. One thing is for sure, we wouldn’t let him go cheaply.
  20. As I mentioned in another thread, did anyone notice Gawn had his calf heavily strapped against the Suns? I did, so him walking laps was no surprise. I also missed the Adelaide match due to other commitments, but watching the 1st quarter this morning, he obviously had heavy strapping on the calf then too. Its obviously something he has been managing for a while now.
  21. I’ve loved him at the MFC (but maybe not as much as he loves himself). Sadly it looks like his time is quickly coming to an end. It’s the decline in agility that takes the hardest toll.

This naiive sort of appraisal is what sees a club walk away with empty hands, and contend for nothing. We won’t sign Gaff by winning a bidding war; there is more to the equation the just $$$ And it’s all relative; Gaff would rather earn a massive amount of cash in the right situation, than a relatively slightly more massive amount of cash at a club where it’s an uneasy fit. Culture is everything, and we have it. Whitfield or Kelly would be just as great, but are they even available? Are they likely to jump ship on GWS? Would they cost the same $$$ and tradable assets? Gaff is the FA looking to come back to Victoria. Don’t be distracted by longshot potential scenarios for other similar players.

I’ve seen him as expendable and having value at the trade table, however... I’m beginning to think we’re attempting to build more versatility into his game without depending on him to dominate in a foreign position. In the near future, I can imagine: Vince/ Lewis retires Jones to HBF Tyson into the midfield rotation Not all that far-fetched. I think as supporters we have the tendency to foresee young players maturing & developing, but ignore the decline of those in their prime. At least, I do sometimes.

Over-age player in the TAC Cup, has injuries, hasn’t got the same exposed form but has promise, was a late pick last year when his brother went at pick 2, so was overshadowed fairly significantly. I think myself and most dees supporters only paid attention because he was a Brayshaw.
