Filler. Morris could have pondered the same thing a week ago. Nothing new to see here.
-
Bingo. Hawks send F1 + change to WC for Barrass. WC F1 + change to Richmond for Baker.
-
Not convinced of that at all. But the media narrative is that he is worth less.
-
To be fair, any halfwit who thought leaving their club might be a distinct possibility in the off-season would clean out their locker ahead of time, to avoid the need to go back at any stage if it comes to fruition. It’s not like they are big & time-consuming to “clean”. It’s not a warehouse.

A cynical mind might say that Clarry’s papers were stamped this time last year, but as his trade value was so low we elected to hold off, give him a season to show some form & recover some value in the market. Then you’d say maybe Geelong have seen through this and have chosen to attempt to combat the recovered value with the use of their media mates. In the end, he only goes (if he goes) for what we agree to, and not the media-driven consensus. But don’t be surprised if you see me outside Kardinia Park driving a tek screw into Mackie’s tyres.

* DESTINATION CLUB * Time to re-hang the sign out front of Gosch’s Paddock.

Because Mackie is happy to waste everyone’s time, thinks he’s smarter than everyone else & thinks he can secure himself a bargain. The new Dodoro.

2024 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
Mach5 replied to Whispering_Jack's topic in Melbourne Demons
Smilie looks like Jason Cloke 2.0. I think we’ll be after Lalor, but if he’s off the board we could even go for Armstrong. -
GC want pick 13 to go to Port, so they can freely trade their F1 to GC for Lukosius.

I’ll say. Imagine the stress on opponents trying to clear a ground ball from defense with Kossie & Kako buzzing around. Also don’t forget we were very keen to trade up for Watson last year. -
F/S & academy selections will make later picks evaporate & hopefully pull it back in.
-
Relevance? He never stated DB was a Geelong supporter & it seemed fairy correct. DB is very pro-Geelong.

For superstars Battle & Perryman... bugger me. After Ben McKay last year. What a sh*t show. Having said that, it may be hard with Freo, but I could see Richmond maybe wanting to get some picks moved to next year. Better to spread the talent influx where you can. And everyone loves a deathride.

Fair enough. It seems a strange thing to criticise a coach for - being close to his players. Particularly when that approach worked to the point where we won a flag. Can’t help but feel Goodwin is in the gun and Lamb is in the gun; both appear to be carrying the stress of those under heavy scrutiny. But somehow our CEO escapes the microscope? When he’s chiefly to blame in my view, and continues to demonstrate such. I’m dumbfounded.

The term “destination club” is a furphy.
-
I respect what you’re saying, but there’s some critical issues with the above: - the opinion of a premiership coach from the outside was that he was astonished. I’d say he hasn’t elaborated because it’s an opinion formed at long distance without a lot of internal insight. Doesn’t mean it’s not accurate, but it is less likely to be. - I think the “fringe player’s lament” is a fairly common sentiment and present at all clubs to differing degrees. Dare I bring it up again, but I recall being at the home of a number of Geelong players watching their teammates play in a final & openly barracking for them to lose & get knocked out.
-
Must be - he’s starting to look like Sellers.

Would have to have the nickname ‘Beans’.

Yes, tiges will be keen to get more of a spread with so many firsts, but they’ll want to give us one in the late teens to maximise their selection options & mitigate against us having a good season. Would prefer to gazump others for GC’s pick, as we can use later picks this year for points. As long as they’re not wrapped up in a deal to Brisbane.
-
Problem is that only so many players can be assigned to play at the source. Not sure I’m happy with Clayton lining up on a flank or Viney in a pocket. Versatility is such a rare commodity.
-
I also can’t see JS being a preference for us. He’s a pure accumulator, but I think we value hurt factor more.
-
It clearly is if we think this year’s crop is much better than next year’s. If you’re purely looking at the numbers, then yeah, you’re right.
-
I feel like we wouldn’t rate Reid in our top 10.
-
Right... but if we had 27 & 35 but no list spots or intention to use them... and no other clubs were interested in acquiring them for anything of real value... wasn’t it worth climbing the order by a few spots to get more certainty in the absence of a better offer? It’s not like teams were clamouring for 27 or 35. Not a lot of players of note taken around those spots.

Which even if true would still need the club to agree to honour the request. Look - I’m completely open to the idea that Port, Carlton & Houston’s management are looking to find ways to involve other parties to get their deal done, and that Kossie’s management may see an opportunity to agitate to be a part of this to curry favour & get a move happening... but we still have to agree to it. And if we believe Kossie is partially being manipulated to achieve the desires of others, we’d probably knock it back without delay. At the end of the day, player agents/managers are like surgeons. A surgeon will often recommended surgery because that’s why they exist. And player agents/managers are much the same - they exist to make trades happen. They’ll always lean into making something happen where they can.
