Can't rely on us to completely demoralise the saints, but I think you can rely on us for the win. The saints are very poor. They were always going to struggle after being a middle rung team last year and facing the prospect of losing Riewoldt & Montagna at once.

Offensively hit & miss. Being a defensive liability is what hurts him the most.

We should target Billings at the end of the season. Saints would probably want too much though.

We'll be fine as long as we keep kicking to decent contests, our talls bring the ball to ground, and our smalls learn to stay down. And a little more composure would help.

Interesting that those with the memberships complaining, have not considered that they have benefitted handsomely from MFC's relative lack of success over a sustained period, and now that we're seen in a more favourable light they are getting value more in line with what they pay. You've had a good ride, but you've been spoilt. I pay my membership every year and that of family members and expect nothing for it other than an opportunity to watch the boys play. Support your club & stop being so damn selfish.

With the new clubs coming in, surely we're expecting some of our girls to be poached. I'm hearing that there's a few that have been approached but don't want to leave because of the strong culture, but sadly some will go, and some have already committed to do so.

As I said, it would make the umpire's job easier. Penalise anyone going into that area, and it removes the issue of "sneaky" teammates curling around the bloke with the ball, dragging an opponent into the area, tempting an umpire to make a mistake. Clarity for all, less iffy frees... I can't see a downside.

Simple solution for mine: Similar to the 50m penalty for an opponent coming too close to the man with the ball, play-on should be called as soon as an opponent comes within 5m (or 10m?) of the man on the mark. Dont wait until he is alongside, as it will give an unfair advantage. That way no one comes close to the man with the ball, making it easier for umpires to manage, and the blame lies with teammates.

Love the prolonged defensive efforts, not to mention sarcastically mocking someone for having exactly as much cred as yourself. Mate, if you don't care, just let it be.

Funny, I reported the same at the time. There's a reason Geelong & Sydney passed eventually after a little digging. Same reason Port shipped Impey to Hawthorn, ironically.

100% wrong, but it demonstrates an underappreciation for Salem's skillset. You must just see him as nice kick then, and little more? Salem's attack on the footy and commitment to the contest has been exemplary in his short career. As a junior he modelled his game on Hodge.

There's also the (non-injury related) considerations that 'draft experts' may have got it wrong about how high they rated a player like Spargo, or that List Managers may question how his play translates to the next level, or where he fits on the field. If he's projected to be a small forward or HHF, I think you need to be truly exceptional at what you do to be an early pick, not just 'really good.'

Sometimes if the talent is still on the board and is that much better than the "needs picks" available, you go for the talent. "Draft for talent, trade for needs" I'm very comfortable with this pick at 36, especially if he comes on but we have no room for him, and we trade him for higher commodities in a few years, a la Adelaide & Lever (although they had no choice in that equation).

Watching his highlights against Vic Metro you can understand why he was SA's MVP.
