If the board/club acted like an organisation who had no alterior motive & nothing to hide, then the costs wouldn’t have been incurred.

Unsurprisingly sounds like bully tactics to drive the incumbents agenda & maintain the status quo, i.e. showing blatant disregard if not contempt for the best interests of the members. Which is consistent with my own experience.
-
I guess this is the prevailing attitude that keeps people like Pert in a job, while others scratch their heads.

Careful, I’d say your allegiance is showing. I’ve long been a firm believer that football clubs reap what they sow approximately 5years earlier. PJ & Roos laid the groundwork for our flag in 2021 (including significant “managing up”). In my opinion - Pert was an ill-considered captains choice without consultation of others that had worked with him beyond favourable references. I’m aware that some key figures in the industry were shocked & dismayed that they weren’t spoken to prior to his appointment. While he has his strengths, I also consider him to generally come across pompous, smug and dismissive. Ultimately, I don’t consider his presence to be conducive to ongoing success, just maintaining the status quo for a short time before a gradual decline. Likewise Roffey, who was happy to just let everyone do their job without interference initially (a commendable trait) while taking credit for successes. Great at the time, but the role needs more. And in my opinion she would ultimately prove to be someone who promoted herself as an approachable my-door-is-always-open type, but when approached was actually a why-is-this-person-talking-to-me type. Her advertised skillset also didn’t appear to bear any fruit. I’ve said somewhere before on this forum (maybe deleted, not sure) that we simply “didn’t have many friends” in the AFL or media circles. Some didn’t think that was important & seem happy with the sentiment of “not being liked” as it’s apparently a sign of success. But the problem is that we are a club trying to gain a foothold & begging for land/training facility to call our own, and for the rules to be changed in our favour for once as opposed to the opposite... these things don’t happen if you’re generally presenting a very unlikeable front. Maybe “friends” is not the correct term, but if you’re seen as “charmless bullies” you have a serious problem.

I’m told she’s seen as a bully. In my experience of her it’s not too far from the truth (at least tries to be a forceful personality with none of the requisite charm).

Surely the intention for these picks was to be roughly around the mark for Yze/Mentha/Andrew/etc. without being significantly over value or less than required to match bids. Having said that, the depth of this draft could leave us with a Petty-like can't-afford-not-to selection at that stage of the draft.

Andrew McQualter - Appointed coach of the West Coast Eagles
Mach5 replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
No point going for Hinkey as I see him as a very similar coach as Goodwin, and also one that would cause constant speculation of a takeover. We need a coach that complements Goodwin’s skillset & he lacks a bit in the tactical dept. Always heavily relied on McCartney in that aspect, although had improved, still not a strong suit at AFL coach level. -
Honestly? I think that her first impressions are of being down to earth, but you don’t have to dig much deeper to find that ...

I can’t seem to find the thumbs down reaction. In all honesty, I think the hardest part of filling this position is akin to finding a good politician; the problem is the type of personal the role generally attracts.
-
In my experience this describes her perfectly and I’ve heard similar disdain directly from her mouth about Casey and its residents. I find it unfathomable that she can be so careless with her words.

My memory is hazy, but I don’t think this thread fully captures the sentiment. I lost a lot of enthusiasm for this forum after too many deleted posts for daring to raise the topic for discussion that maybe our senior leadership had faults. I take no pleasure in this but I feel like maybe now some are starting to see. Viva la revolution.

I will be accepting apologies here within.

I think Lyon is more value to us as an ally in the media. We need someone who demonstrates strong leadership, is a genuine cultural leader and has strong experience with corporate governance. The biggest problem is a lack of reasonable candidates.

Begs the question... why has he had so much trouble breaking through elsewhere? I thought it was his tank more than anything.
-
I think we could easily sell him the dream of midfield opportunities in the near future, but is he worth it & would North let him go for anything less than a 2nd-rounder? Surely they can’t take a hit that size this soon.

Will Phillips? No, but seriously, actually slightly interested in others opinions here - is there anything to salvage?

Any updates on this?

The midfield numbers behind staggering drop-off
Mach5 replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
I think you’ll find it’s actually Bohdan Babijczuk. -
Surely you can see we are experimenting with our midfielders and half-forwards in other roles against lowly opposition, to adjust the mix and provide greater flexibility? It’s not because we don’t have any better starting mids; it’s about giving us options.
-
Uhhhh, not sure about that.

PRESEASON TRAINING: Friday 19th January 2024
Mach5 replied to george_on_the_outer's topic in Melbourne Demons
Short highlights package. The lowlights would run a lot longer... Tries his guts out which is great, but we could do with an upgrade. In relation to him finding the ball at critical moments, I wouldn’t discount this being by the design of the opposition, in full knowledge of the likely outcome. -
Mushrooms. Par for the course with this group. If you think they treat the supporter base with contempt, you should hear how they talk about Casey.
-
A Feasibility Report does represent a sizeable financial commitment towards the report itself, so you’d have to hope there’s some proper confidence it will proceed. However I doubt they’ll expect the cost estimates we’ll receive (let alone the actual costs). The club will be basing their own estimates on the cost of Casey which will be outdated & not appropriate. For a similar facility at Caulfield my guess would be in the range of $100-120m.

Melksham, Hibberd, May, Lever, Tomlinson, Preuss, Brown, Langdon, Dunstan, Grundy, McAdam, Fullarton...
