  1. Did you really watch the game? Or are you listening to Sanderson making up stats on the draft coverage? He didn't even have 11 marks for the game.
  2. OK, I am sick of seeing this argument so I am going to pull you up. We have publicly stated we would not have taken Kelly with this pick. My guess would be, it was Billings, who is a class above Salem. We also traded pick 20 as part of this trade, there were some really handy players who went between 20 and 30 in this draft. This is not the greatest trade of all time, like some will have you believe on this site. Your point that Barrett has no idea still stands.
  3. Well said, we would all be up in arms if Viney got 2 weeks for that, not much in it unless it was high. Here's a link to the hit if you haven't seen it. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fmj_e9moYZ4&t=2m28s
  4. Luke Ball seems to be sitting on the fence, need someone a bit more decisive in the role. I think the Mitchell one is the worst, as the kick is smothered if he goes inboard like they're claiming he needs to. Vince meant it, as annoying as it was.
  5. Where are you getting this number from? I believe he only got it 17 times and questioned if he has the runs on the board to warrant a game prior to the the Essendon game.
  6. Wouldn't that mean we should have won? Who have we ever bullied?
  7. OK, first up.......Paul Roos and the selection committee. He talks so much crap in the media about not putting games into young players and rewarding form, then rushes Brayshaw back in after giving us nothing for the 2nd half of last season then managing 17 touches in a VFL practice match (Trengove hasn't played for 2 years and can get 18 and 2 goals in a half). Also, talking about match ups against the Kangaroos during this week. One week at a time. Practice what you preach. Hogan - appalling performance and body language. Should be dropped to set an example. I have never seen a young player with such appalling body language and whinging. It normally takes about 50 games before this creeps in. Refuses to lead at ball carrier and always tries to body up his opponent instead of jumping at it. Gawn - gave us nothing and lost multiple contests to much smaller opponents. Oliver - kick the bloody thing! throughout all of his games he often waits for the traffic to come towards him when he is in the clear. Garland - despite the claim that he is a versatile player. He is not good enough to be a key defender and not skillful enough to be a small defender. The sooner we move on from him the better. McDonald and coaching team - they have 1 dangerous forward - lock him out of the game. Kent/Harmes/Garlett - poor pressure. A rookie listed small defender with poor fitness stitching us up. Vandenburg - used to love his tackling pressure - without it, he isn't much use. Salem - giving us nothing down back. Try him out forward. Jetta - another massively overrated on this site. Needs to give more run and stupid free kick in the goal square. Tyson - Joe Daniher esque Everyone else other than Ben Kennedy. Not good enough.
  8. Put a Port in the front of it and it'll work.
  9. Very lucky it was a goal as Salem or Jetta was all alone in the corridor.
  10. You have basically agreed with what I have said. He was not the same after the West Coast game which is my exact point. As that is an additional 8 games he played with very limited output, he should need to earn his place in the team, similar to how he demanded a spot in round 1 last year. 17 possessions in a VFL practice match is a similar form line to his end to the season. Yes, I think he will be a very good player, however if we were a half decent team he would have been dropped last season. He now needs to earn his way back into the team and there are many players who will go before Tyson. He may well come back into the team this week and I wont be disappointed if he does, but it won't be at Tyson's expense. If it's so easy to do what Saad does, then why haven't we had a player capable of doing it like he does in the last 5 years? I won't enter into the Judd, Pendelbury conversation as the game was played very differently 10 years ago and my very vague memory has Judd being tagged from early in his 1st season.
  11. I've watched the game twice now and you are kidding if you think his decision making is VFL standard, his work in close was fantastic (particularly the 1st qtr). He did make some poor errors in the 2nd quarter, although I would say only one of them was a real shocker (the 20m kick). Having said that the ball should have gone long from Matt Jones and then Clayton Oliver prior to this anyway as we had a loose on the wing. Yes, there was a couple of other disposals that weren't as good as they should have been but the other players involved in those passages were just as bad (Oscar McDonald should have still been able to recover and not handball it straight into Shiel,, Frost should have had better awareness etc). He has his flaws, but he can still be a very good afl player. He has very similar attributes to Matt Priddis, who would have been getting similar questions about his game at the same age. Playing VFL will not achieve anything. I like Brayshaw and he showed some good signs last year. However, he is fairly overrated on this board. He averaged 12 possessions last year,. I think the fact he somehow came 5th in the rising star (no way he was better than Saad), people have overlooked how poorly he finished the season. Getting 17 possessions in his VFL practice game is hardly grounds for replacing Tyson. Rant over!
  12. In my opinion the only 2 picks that should be judged for this draft are ANB and OMac and I don't rate either pick. OMac has looked so far off the pace and doesn't compliment his brother well within the team. ANB, while playing some good games last season seems a poor pick for mine. He is OK at all parts of the game but appears to lack a standout trait that will see him ever amount to anything more than a fringe player. Given that our 'key players' are inside mids with OK to GOOD skills and pace (not elite) we really should have been looking for some elite skills or speed with this pick. Jack Lonie - the next pick would have fitted in much better. The rookie draft is looking good and all credit to the recruiting staff for that.
  13. There are many aspects to a players attitude. While this occurred two years ago, it highlighted an attitude issue to me. At pre-season training (I have been a couple of times each year for the past 5 years) the team was doing a simple warm-up drill, basically kick to kick. The boys were supposed to go back and take a few steps before kicking the ball each time. Tom McDonald was not doing this, he was just kicking the ball without going back and taking his steps. Brad Miller told him to do it properly. About a minute later Brad Miller had a decent crack at him for not doing it again and not taking it seriously. He seemed somewhat surprised at the spray he got. He is a definite keeper and his kicking in the training drills I saw this pre-season was actually quite impressive. Just needs to limit the gap between his best and worst. Hopefully it was just the wind. Those saying that up forward his kicking wouldn't hurt as much are kidding themselves. Kennedy and to a lesser extent Kent and Garlett (who often chose the wrong option when goals/scores should be guaranteed) have shown this. Also, as others have added about Frost. The reason he doesn't play defense is that Minson mark. I remember Jamar absolutely pantsing him in training in his 1st preseason in a forward/backman drill. I'd be 99% sure Roos/Rawlings don't trust him in defence.
  14. I am going by the book the The Draftees - which states if we had the number one pick it would have been hard to choose between McCartin and Heeney with Petracca, Brayshaw and Lever rated behind the pair.
  15. I could be wrong as I don't use Instagram that often, but I am pretty sure Toby Green just tagged him in a post and CM didn't actually type it hence the quotation marks.
  16. I have been thinking about this for a while and our 2013 draft is looking quite worrying. I know many people hail him as our savior, but I don't share the optimism. It could be the pessimist in me that remembers these boards and similar thoughts about Barry Prendegast soon after our 2008 and 2009 drafts. Looking at the 2013 draft two seasons on: Pick 9: Christian Salem. Appears to be a good pick, is a good competitor with neat skills. I don't know about his speed at this stage, rarely gets out of a jog. Cant claim it as a fantastic pick as a Cripps, Sheed and McCarthy were all taken after him and have probably shown more. Injuries and lack of fitness have made it hard to get an accurate gauge. Pick 40: Jay Kennedy-Harris: This pick is worrying as he is an undersized player who does not have great speed. He also lacks the evasive moves that would be required with this lack of speed. Kicking also lacks penetration. In fairness there was not too much still around at this point in the draft. The bigger concern was hearing rumours we rated him much higher than this and were surprised he was still available. Pick 57: Jayden Hunt: Speculative pick that probably should have been a rookie. Have not seen much of him and when he does play doesn't get enough of the ball. Has some attributes which could make him an AFL standard player. Rookies: James Harmes: Lacks polish but moves OK, better speed than most of the plodders on our list. Doubt he makes it. Will be the new whipping boy if Matt Jones and Rohan Bail don't make it. Max King: I think he shows some real promise. Good skills for a big man and worth at least giving the same amount of development we have given to Spencer. Alex Georgiou: Terrible pick and a waste of 7 AFL games. Undersized KPP who gives no offensive drive. My biggest concern, however, is rating Lewis Taylor in the top 9 Players in the 2013 draft. I cant understand how this was possible. On a side note: have just read Emma Quayle's book The Draftees. I found it interesting to see we rated: Mccarrtin and Heeney at 1 and 2. Then as has been widely speculated Petracca, Brayshaw and Lever next. What are peoples thoughts?
  17. Long time reader. Just thought i'd let you in on something I have stumbled across. As has been mentioned earlier. Those "highlight" packages are more just any time a player is involved in the game, good or bad. To view the actual highlights for each player, you can do this through the afl site (at this stage petracca does not have his clip up). Jake Lever: http://www.afl.com.au/video/2013-12-12/gun-draft-hopeful-grounded http://www.afl.com.au/video/2014-09-14/draft-prospect-jake-lever Angus Brayshaw: http://www.afl.com.au/video/2014-09-13/angus-brayshaw-highlights Patrick McCartin: http://www.afl.com.au/video/2014-09-14/draft-prospect-patrick-mccartin http://www.afl.com.au/video/2013-08-07/patrick-mccartin-highlights Peter Wright: http://www.afl.com.au/video/2014-09-14/draft-prospect-peter-wright Also, the AIS game they played against Collingwood earlier in the year can be seen at (Brayshaw does some impressive things in this game): For the record. Brayshaw and McCartin (assuming Petracca goes one).
