Who? were we watching the same game? Harris Andrews makes Oscar look like a speed demon. McStay kept kicking it to us. Their opponents kicked 9 goals.

2017 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
I have only seen the foxtel games for this crop including last year as 17 year olds, but he seems to really overrate the talls in this draft. I think Braysahw, O'Brien and Hunter Clark are much better prospects than he is giving them credit for. It seems others rate Stephenson a lot higher also, but he is one I find hard to judge. Don't like his kicking action at all. Jason Taylor said something similar about the talls coming through in the draft in the podcast.

Salem doesn't have that kind of value.

Welcome to Demonland: Jake Lever
Not how I remember it, started the season really well then dropped off and was playing really poorly. Had 1 or maybe 2 good games and suddenly was a surprise inclusion for the Hawthorn game where he played well (on a first gamer). Since then has been extremely average to the extent that most supporters were impressed because he laid some tackles against Adelaide. He is young and has time on his side but with young players you look at their attributes and that's why some people (like myself) don't just assume he will be a good player because he was an early pick. Hipwood was taken in the same draft and is head and shoulders ahead of Weideman at this stage (also over 200m). McCartin has clearly shown more at AFL level, has had many nearly moments. Weideman struggles to get involved.

2017 AFL National Draft prospects: The next batch
Interested to see how Fogarty goes in the Nationals. From the limited vision I've seen of him he appears to be in that Scharanberg, Francis mould. Where he will be sold as a potential midfielder but isn't one. Still in love with Rayner and find it hard to see him slipping to 7 despite his fitness concerns.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - STEVEN MAY
I (used to) like him but I have noticed this a lot this year. The amount of times he makes good position and then misses the ball or lets it through is outrageous, it's like when Tom McDonald is having one of those games. However, he is a nice kick, I am going cold on him though.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - STEVEN MAY
He had another pretty poor one, when he couldn't stick the tackle on Watts at the top of the goal square.

how do you figure this?

You would be furious trading a first rounder for May? I'd be furious if we didn't jump at an offer like that. He would be in the top 5 tall defenders in the competition.

My understanding was that Jurrah didn't drink before coming to Melbourne? I can't remember Sambono kicking a drop punt in that highlight video.Reminds me a little bit of Jeffy.

Josh Kelly
Not according to the media. 750K is the expected offer from GWS. From what I can remember, Melksham is on 400, Lumumba was on 500, and Bernie Vince got a lucrative deal for 2017. Josh Kelly is easily worth 800. Prestia is on about that and Kelly is a thousand times better than him (which I guess you have now figured out ) But it's clear North rate him a lot higher than we do, we have passed him up two times and they have publicly said they tried to get the mini draft pick we used on Hogan to draft Kelly.

The Petracca v McCartin debate reprised
I'll bite. Moore has been a big disappointment this season. He kicked 5 goals in his 3rd game of football. He has had impressive pre season games and I think most people really rate him based on his game against West Coast last season. Most people have figured him out now (don't let him run and jump at the ball). The big difference between the two players is Darcy Moore is quick. Darcy Moore kicked 24 goals in 17 games in his second season. I'm on record as being critical of the selection of Weideman, it's due to the overall package. I agree he flies for his marks well but his inability to compete at ground level and change direction is a major concern. On Petracca, I find it strange they didn't compare him to Stringer or Wingard, who play similar roles.

Yes. Our original pick was used on Will Brodie.

Milera, Rioli, Gresham and Burton. Florin maybe also, but I haven't seen him play much.

The Petracca v McCartin debate reprised
His handballs were standard handballs, nothing more, nothing less. For much of the game he was also opposed to a first gamer (he did have Gibson at times). I think if you look back on his stats prior to joining the AFL you will also see that he was a low possession, low mark player. At this stage his attributes are those of a giant KPP. In the mould of a Hawkins, Boyd, Patton. The problem is he will never be that big. Interesting way of looking at it. I actually have a very different take on it and query why we have gone need specific with such an early pick. It seems like Luke Molan, Lucas Cook all over again. Some very handy smaller types taken just after Weideman in his draft. Then there is also this years draft to take into account as we forced our way out of it because we were so determined to draft a KPP.

CC, I remember him posting on here shortly after.

I'm not sure if you missed the point. They were drafted in different years.

Sufficient I think you mean. They took Ellis with pick 12 and lever went pick 14.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - MICHAEL HIBBERD
As the poster did not state a trade, they may have meant a 4th round as compensation, so it is is probably worth mentioning that 4th rounders are not available as compensation for free agents.

Of course it is. The poster implied (IMO) that Taylor had a fantastic record which I believe is not the case and would have made a great pick at selection 30. Agree to disagree if you can't see that. I have stated I think Hunt is a good pick yet you keep bringing it up. My point is other recruiters picked up players of similar quality with similar picks. Many quality players were taken between JKH and Hunt which other recruiters have equally nailed. Salem is probably what causes us to have a different opinion on Taylor, I think he had to make a good pick at 57 to make up for the 2 picks prior to this while you think he has done well at pick 9 and 57. My issue with the JKH and ANB selections are more their attributes or lack of certain attributes which was always going to make it hard for them to succeed. Obviously you're not going to nail every pick and sometimes luck can make you look like a superstar in recruiting. I don't believe he has been bad, but my original point was I don't believe he has a great record like some on here, including you, make out. Will be interesting to read in a few years.

WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - MICHAEL HIBBERD
Semantics, the poster I responded to stated Jason Taylor's potential pick would make us sad. It was pick 30. The nearest picks he has had have been JKH and ANB and neither player excites me in any way. Second part, fair enough. I stated some good players were taken around this pick. For instance Essendon went into the draft with pick 26 and 55 and ended up with Merrett and Fantasia, that is something that would make me think the recruiter was a genius. But as I have stated I think it was a good pick. Third part, Salem was a disappointment this year prior to his injury. Players often get overrated by fans when they are injured and this appears to be the case here. While he does have many assets which will be valuable his inability to spread at speed is a concern as is best his position at AFL level. This has moved somewhat from drafting to recruitment and while I don't agree with many of the assessments I would say Mahoney, Viney and Roos would be just as responsible for many of these decision. Not sure if it's an oversight with Zach Merrett or you just don't rate him? Right under our nose at Sandy.
