I don't understand posts like these. Did we draft him to become the next Glenn Archer? He goes when it's his turn to go (see the lead up to Viney's goal), he laid 8 tackles and his foot skills were on show for all to see. 2 excellent goals. I guess you're just a glass half-empty kind of guy.

Demonland Player of the Year - Round 11
Bang Bang Bang replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
6 - Vince 5 - Toumpas 4 - Hogan 3 - N. Jones 2 - Watts 1 - Cross EDIT: Forgot Watts. -
You can't blame Roos for the lack of numbers back with 40 seconds left. That's 100% the players' fault. You can perhaps blame him for other things if you want, but that can't be one of them. Positives were Toumpas VInce (38 touches to Armitage's 20) Hogan Viney (loses serious credits for the jumper punch) Still very, very disappointed. We better [censored] [censored] these [censored] when we play them at the MCG, and we better [censored] win at Etihad next time we play there.

To be fair the Saints killed us in that last quarter, deserved to win. But of [censored] course this happens. Heartbreaking.

Toumpas Toumpas Toumpas

Some more thoughts. Watts loves playing at Etihad. The ping pong style seems to suit him. If I was in charge of St.Kilda or any of the Etihad teams, I'd consider trading for him at the end of the year. Viney's tackle was one of the best I've ever seen! It's a shame it still ended up in a Saints goal not long after it. I've nearly thrown my remote at the TV on several occasions and still might if the Saints blow us out of the water after half time.

Don't blame him when Hogan is down there. I literally expect him to mark it every time it's sent in. Toumpas won me over with a passage of play halfway through the quarter. Attacked the contest, neutralised it, recovered, stepped around an opponent, handballed it to Gawn who sent it to Viney who sent it through. Good signs from Jimmy. Definitely loves the hospital handpass though, gotta get rid of that.

We haven't beaten St.Kilda since the 2006 Elimination Final. We haven't won at the Docklands since late 2007. Today is a huge chance to erase two hoodoos and it's also a very winnable game. We better bloody win.

Alex Neal-Bullen to Debut Round 11 vs St Kilda
Bang Bang Bang replied to Machsy's topic in Melbourne Demons
We've been decimated by injuries and ANB is coming off a good run of form in the VFL. The Saints are a young side. Absolutely the correct call, just as selecting a raw Brayshaw in Round 1 has proven to be. I haven't seen much of ANB, but he clearly has no trouble winning the football. 35 possessions at his age is an amazing achievement in the VFL. I expect him to make a good fist of it. -
I only watched the third quarter and bits and pieces of the others. I live overseas and thus had work, this really is one day on the calendar where I really miss living in Australia. 1. Gus was absolutely scintillating in that third quarter and was apparently just as good in the second? Boy oh boy. Thanks Chip! 2. I laughed when Fitzy kicked a regulation goal and Bruce exclaimed "I can see him playing 150 games of AFL." Nek minnit, tunnel ball. I like Fitzy but 150 is a lot of games. He has a long way to go. He beat Jesse White though. 3. I'm pretty sure 21 touches is a career high for Toumpas. Yeah he is a bit weak in the contest and yeah he should take the game on a bit more, but he's improving. His first kick, most players would have kicked it out on the full. But it was pinpoint. Not many players can do that. I can see a bit to work with. 4. Travis Cloke. How the heck does he manage to kick 7.0? I swear to God he did the exact same thing to us a few years back (on Rivers). And Tarrant before him. What is it with wayward Collingwood forwards killing us every [censored] time. 5. Bernie Vince is one of the most underrated players in the competition. Gets the ball, attacks the ball, tags, kicks goals. Good clubman. What's not to love? Thanks Col!

I know of at least 2 Hawk supporting friends that to this day still pull out the 1989 GF replay for a viewing every now and then. I find the Robbie reference insensitive btw.

I was in year 6 at the time. Everyone was talking about it on the Monday at school, teachers included! Hard to believe 15 years has passed already.

Even though it didn't work out that well for Carlton I still rate this as one of the most disappointing moments in my time as a Melbourne fan. Judd's welcome to do what he likes and chasing money is understandable but it would have been incredible to have a player of his calibre wear the Red and Blue.

Richmond missed so many gettable goals against us and kicked 5.16. They are on 13.3 tonight. Sometimes footy is a simple game, just kick it through the big sticks!

The media should probably apologise to Hardwick after he was widely ridiculed for his "Our best can beat anyone" comment. He has been proven right!

GAME DAY at Alice Springs - Round 9
Bang Bang Bang replied to Henrietta Lumbago's topic in Melbourne Demons
I didn't feel good about last week's game until Dennis Commeti made a very simple but appropriate comment. "Sometimes form is irrelevant and it's just a case of 22 blokes matching up well against 22 other blokes." Port seems to be one such team that we match up well against and Roos seems to coach well against them too. If we kick straight we can win this. We barely missed a set shot last week. -
Right, good on him for being proud of his heritage and openly showing it. But he was being deliberately antagonistic by running at the Carlton supporters the way he did. If he had run at the Dees faithful like that at a home game how would we react?

Eddie McGuire: Paul Roos "obvious choice" to fix Carlton
Bang Bang Bang replied to SaberFang's topic in Melbourne Demons
I don't think Paul Roos has any interest in being a modern day Winston Wolfe. Eddie probably has a point though, Roos for 2/3 years with a succession plan would be a good fit for Carlton as they are eerily similar to us back in 2013. It's really too bad that we got him. -
I agree with your sentiment here. Look at his reaction after his second kick was finally paid a goal. The game was long over by then but you could tell he was thrilled with a "Yes, I've finally done it!!" thought. Long way to go for him, as he needs to play near this level on a consistent basis. But I'm happy for him. Morton most certainly had blinders. He had 22 touches and 2 goals in his 3rd game at Kardinia Park, 26 and 3 against the Bombers the same year. 37 against the Dogs in 2009. He fell away quickly after that but your memory must be pretty short mate. Morton looked very good early on.

Reminds me of some of the posters on here before our final tune-up against Essendon earlier in the year. Does anyone still care about that game btw?? The apocalypse was upon us at the time.
-
He did kick a good goal from 50m against Sydney. But I agree, it does lack a bit of penetration. He'll probably dob one from 55m on his left foot next week now we've said it.
-
If you take out our gimme wins over the expansion sides in their infant years, then yesterday's margin of 39 points was our biggest win since mid-2011 (pre 186) when we beat Fremantle by 89 points at the MCG. I'm not sure about you guys, but I'm happy with where Roos is taking us. I'm glad I didn't embarrass myself with Neeld comparisons like certain other posters earlier in the thread.
-
We are 3/3 from our genuinely winnable games this year (3/4 if you want to count GWS). I think most of us had a sense of dread when Picken kicked that goal in the last quarter but I think we are finally learning how to win. It's something that haunted us a bit last year, the Doggies got us twice in similar circumstances!

I live overseas, would love to have been there. I have acknowledged that vandenBerg isn't the most skilled player already. Hasn't stopped him being one of the recruits of the year.
