Which clubs get the draft right? Every club strives to achieve this, but like Redleg said, it’d be a miracle to actually achieve this. Complaining about the drafting of Dion Johnstone at pick 64 is a stretch.
-
And yet the last two premierships have been won by teams that have struggled since the expansion teams entered the comp, whilst the well-fed GWS hasn’t won anything. Talent and the draft in particular, is overrated.
-
It may have something to do with the current trend in footy. In previous years teams implemented a flood, then a cluster, then a press, then a stoppage based gameplan. The last two years have seen the Bulldogs and Tigers win premierships on the back of frantic pressure and frenetic ball movement. Teams are trying to either imitate or implement this ideology. With this leap in pressure, the skills have gone to hell.

Match Preview and Team Selection - Round 6

In answer to the OP, would happily take any of those players. In response to the suggestion that we trade Gawn, our Vice captain, a previous all Australian, who would be odds-on for a repeat this year, and a man who has stood up and played blinders in our biggest wins of the last of the last 3 years (West Coast 2017, Hawthorn 2016, Geelong 2015)... you have got to be kidding?? Tuesday night was as close to a finals atmosphere as you're going to get in a H/A match and he had 16 disposals, 8 tackles and 56 hit-outs... what does he need to do to convince you?

Match Preview and Team Selection - Round 6
TeamPlayedFine39 replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
I would agree that we have a lot of players, mainly half-forwards/midfield types, who are out of form at moment. Melksham was one of them four days ago, yet turned it all around on Tuesday. Fingers crossed Gartlett, Harmes, ANB, etc. can follow suit... -

Can’t find the video on the mobile site... got a link?? -
I honestly don’t see the difference in who tells us... people take it personally, like they’re being lied to. Its an individuals medical information. We were going to find out about the injury at 6:25 tonight... what’s the rush??
-
I would suggest that the story has leaked, which is out of the clubs control. When a player goes into hospital for surgery, there’s too many people involved for it to remain quiet.
-
I would hope its the Royal Blue. Looks good IMHO and there's no possible way of confusing the two jumpers.
-
Could have got him last year. No clubs even had a nibble. Personally, I think he’s a lazy player, but he just keeps kicking plenty of goals.
-
Agree with the above sentiments. We need to look to lure a free agent or trade rather than a speculative 18 year old. We wouldn't be willing to give up someone that would net us a top ten pick and our efforts would be better spent on retaining the young quality that we have and look to build upon it with a 25-28 yo free agent.

Which Team can we beat on current Form?
TeamPlayedFine39 replied to Demonsone's topic in Melbourne Demons
Current form? As in, which teams can we beat when we’re playing very poorly?? The answer is very few. When the form turns around and things start to click? We can beat anyone in the league. Its up to people’s personal opinion as to if or when our form will turn around, but we’ve seen this team’s best and we’ve seen it’s worst. When in form we can beat anyone. -
Until Nathan Buckley revealed the extent of his coaching genius to the world and moved Howe to defence...
-
Howe wanted out, he requested the trade. We had lined up GC for him in return for a top 10 pick and he was going to be on a pile of cash. Buckley swooped in at the 11th hour and he elected Collingwood. We were over a barrel and took whatever we could get. It wasn’t a management decision, he wanted out.
-
Dunn and pick 51 for the pick that got Hannan. It was reported at the time that it was a salary dump to make room for the unexpected trade of Jordan Lewis. So Dunn and 51 for Hannan and $$$ for Lewis.
-
Is Spargo beating down the door yet?? He’s been playing well, but not sure about debuting him so early in the season. Would prefer him to mount a case that’s impossible to ignore rather than us turning to him in hope... Gartlett gets one more week imho as he’s one of the few players we have who can turn a match in minutes.
-
Not even close.

His fend offs are great to watch and perfectly legal. The issue is, which he is somehow not getting credit for here, is his incredible physical strength. Last night we saw Petracca and Harmes both try to fend off, but they simply weren’t strong enough. He is the only player in the history of our game who has been able to do this so consistently. If he hits a player high, then penalise him. If a tackle sticks after a fend-off, then penalise him. If it were an easy thing to do, then everyone would be doing it. If it were as easy as grabbing his hands, then everyone would be doing it. With all that said, we played Dusty very well last night; had zero impact on the match.
-
It is embarrassing but he literally does that every single match; the guys a freak. Had a very quiet night tonight though.
-
I doubt they’ll make this many changes, but here goes... OUT: Kent, Harmes, Stretch, ANB, Wagner IN: Hannan, McDonald, Fritsch, Lewis, Maynard JETTA O’MAC HIBBERD HUNT LEVER LEWIS SALEM JONES BRAYSHAW HOGAN T’MAC MELKSHAM GARLETT WEIDEMAN FRITSCH GAWN OLIVER PETRACCA MAYNARD VINCE TYSON HANNAN
-
Hard to say. He’s the kind of player whose form can completely turn around in an instant. We need him back firing.
-
Surprised that Weideman is getting the criticism. Was probably his best match for the club, and while that’s not saying heaps, he’s progressing while many of our other young players have seemingly gone backwards.
