  1. I wonder is something like that has occurred, forcing Lewis to look around. Now that Mitchell has all but agreed to go the Hawks are trying to back track and maybe Lewis is keen on a fresh start as well? Interesting.
  2. Totally agree with you. Just think it's an incredible start to a career. Wonder what the best is, probably a young guy who joined Melbourne in the 50's & 60's
  3. I highly doubt he is losing sleep. He's probably got other deals he wants to do with the 2016 2nd round pick.
  4. I actually don't mind it at the right price. The addition of Lewis and Hibberd could easily help us jump into the top 8 next season. From there it becomes a lot easier to attract free agents or players via a trade. I feel like with the addition of free agency and players choosing where they want to go, the value of picks outside the top 10 have dropped dramatically.
  5. You should see what goes on in US sports. For example, someone traded a player in the NHL for a 3rd round pick, however part of the agreement was that if said player scores more than 15 goals they get the 2nd round pick. Imagine including those types of clauses- we trade a future 2nd rounder for Hibberd, however if he averages over 20 touches it turns into a first.
  6. How's Brad Hill. 5 seasons played. 3 premierships hahaha
  7. Really? I thought for sure Sam Mitchell had 10 years left...... It is just my opinion after watching Tom Mitchell in a number of games this year. I'll be very interested to see how he goes for the Hawks.
  8. They won 4 in 8 years so of course it would be a great ratio. And I definitely agree they were one of the greatest sides of all time. I guess I believe O'meara is a massive risk and personally I'm hoping it doesn't work out well for them. I also think Tom Mitchell is a bit over rated, gets a lot of the ball but nowhere near as damaging as a guy like Sam Mitchell, who they may be losing. Maybe I'm biased because I want them to fail, but I just don't think they can replace these great players without going back down for a while. Plus it will get harder for them to bring in good talent as they start to realise they aren't a sure bet for top 8.
  9. It's only related to where they finish, all the other clubs mentioned got their deals done as well but just had to use the picks they have? If we finish top 8 next season and have a good player want to come to us we will also get a deal done for a similar pick because that is just how it works these days. Seriously, everyone needs to get over the Hawks, they don't do anything other than lure players and to be honest I doubt the path they are heading down at the moment. We will beat them next year.
  10. I wonder if we will get a deal done today........ Always get so impatient waiting for something to happen!
  11. I would definitely do that if I were the Bombers recruiting team. They missed a whole draft so taking two top 10 picks instead of one would be gold for them. And it would work for GWS as well since they have a million first rounders.
  12. Stay away from sharp objects Picket......
  13. This is the only way. The US use free agency works well because it works both ways. Players can be traded to any club without their permission while not a free agent, however, once a free agent they can also move anywhere and the team they were playing for isn't compensated. At the moment we have free agency, plus we have a system where players need to agree to trades and therefore 90% of the time get to the club of their choosing anyway. Something has to change with the system!
  14. I think that's where we come in with a trade for Lewis....
  15. I agree. You need more than Tom Mitchell, Tyrone Vickery and Jaeger O'Meara to make top 4. Especially with guys like Burgoyne, Gibson, Hodge, Mitchell & Roughhead nearing the end. The other side of it is the reason they were so successful is they were a well oiled machine. It will take a little while to actually oil the machine again and there is no guarantee it will ever get near the heights they had.
  16. I'd say the assumption is that picks are always going to slide each year with free agency and academy picks. I imagine we are wanting to use our current 2nd round pick on another deal.
  17. Beat me to it! Would be great to have another Irishman on our list again!
  18. Do not rate Langford at all. Played one good game in the Grand Final against Sydney, other than that wouldn't really improve our list at all.
  19. Ahhhh right. That seems to happen a lot. Someone hear's them say Melbourne and they assume they mean the team not the city. I wonder if we are getting involved with the Hawks and Lewis to give them enough picks to get these trades done?
  20. They should list the 2017 picks as well as these are also in play. Obviously not the position but the round.
  21. Someone mentioned they were discussing Tom Mitchell coming to the Dees on one of the radio channels this morning. Anyone else hear this?
  22. The only 4 time premiership player around that age is Lewis & Roughhead (but obviously he is ruled out). Birchall is 28.
  23. With the continuous development of our 19-23 year old players I believe we SHOULD beat the following teams next season: Brisbane, Carlton, Essendon, Fremantle, Richmond, Collingwood, St Kilda, Port Adelaide, North Melbourne, Hawthorn, WCE (if at home). Plus I believe we will pinch 2-3 wins from the top 6 sides. My prediction for next season is 13-15 wins and our first final in 11 years! Go Dees.
  24. Did his time and everyone should move on and give him a clean slate. Hopefully he can fulfill his potential at Melbourne as I think he's a very talented player who's development was probably hindered by the turmoil of the last 3-4 years at Essendon. If we play the bombers round 1 I hope he and Hibberd can taste victory together straight up against their old side!
