I'm not so sure they would match if he really wanted to go. If the Eagles finish bottom 3-4 they would net them two picks inside the top 5, which they desperately need. They are miles off at the moment, especially considering their best players last year were Jeremy McGovern (33 in April) and Elliott Yeo (31).

He’s a free agent and if the Eagles finish bottom 4 and get band one compensation they aren’t matching. The biggest cost is salary.

This is definitely the reason, but if people dug a little deeper they would see we lost to Carlton by 1 point, Brisbane by 5 at the Gabba, Giants by 2 points & Port by 2 points. We had some very poor losses as well against West Coast, Freo x 2, the Dogs and the Pies, but I take some confidence out of those other games that we weren't too far off.

Roy George is a mature age player who has been overlooked by all AFL clubs so far. It would be great if we picked him and he makes it, but he’s also a completely different player to Verrall so we would be looking at replacing someone else with George. Realistically you need 3-4 ruck options on your list

I agree that Verrall probably won’t make it at AFL level, but seriously he was a speculative rookie selection. It’s really not a big deal if he doesn’t make it and I’d imagine 80-90% of rookie picks wouldn’t make it. Not sure why people are getting worked up about that.

If Spargs is a long way off they can put him on the LTI list to get George

2021? Obviously that’s a pisstake and I agree for a lot of the last 30 years we’ve been very poor, however the past 5 years we are in the top 4 for total win percentage. So we have been doing something right and it should be acknowledged.

Enjoyed that. Rivers and Oliver look primed. Billings looks ultra fit and wouldn’t surprise me if he’s in the round 1 team. Also great to see mcadam moving really well

Doubt it.... I actually think there's two options for round 1 1. JVR, Turner and Johnson as R/F 2. Jeffo, Turner and JVR as R/F There is a third option where Petty is in, but I prefer him back.

Ok. Well capable of it in our side should be Oliver, Petracca and Viney who have all shown the ability to crack over 30 touches. Rivers may also move into that category next year also. In 2023 for example we had: Oliver - 30.3 average Petracca - 27.8 Viney - 25.6 Brayshaw - 22.8 I think our main issue was the depth after the first 3 in Trac, Oliver and Viney. Hopefully guys like Rivers, Salo, Windsor etc can increase their disposal counts so we aren’t so reliant on those 3

I personally have him 6th in line as a forward behind JVR, Turner, Jeffo, Johnson and Petty as a swing man. He’s very much depth in my mind.
