Game plans, tactics and all that jazz
DistrACTION Jackson replied to binman's topic in Melbourne Demons
Totally understand the percentage play and it is part of the reason our defence is so good. I would like to see us maybe 15% of the time try a different option, especially if the other team has had repeat entries and we are bogged down. Maybe it is a Jayden Hunt running 10-15 metres and launching it to space on the opposite wing. If the players know what is going to happen then they can have runners ready. The other option is to setup for that May kick but instead look to hit up a player at around the 40 metre mark. The players on the wing can then break across the ground and look to get a mark through the centre square. I think these little tweaks could really help us when we are a bit stuck and the other team has repeat entries. -
Brisbane average 104 points a game for v the bottom 10 sides and 90 per game for v the top 8 sides. They also average 73 points against v bottom 10 sides and 94.4 points against v the top 8 sides. The difference between how they dictate play against weaker sides and good sides is very different and they fall apart once the pressure is turned up. The backline match ups won't matter too much if we can pressure them through the middle and not allow them easy run. Do that and we go a long way to winning this game. The pressure is firmly on them as they are known to collapse in big games and have a horrid finals record.

If everyone played each other once
DistrACTION Jackson replied to Demons11's topic in Melbourne Demons
I think they should schedule the first 17 rounds at the start of the season and everyone plays each other once. Then at around round 14/15 they can run their formulas based on top 6, middle 6 and bottom 6 to determine who plays who for the remaining 5 rounds. So for example, if we were top 6 after round 15 then maybe we get two top 6 teams, two middle 6 and one bottom 6. If there's a team in the bottom 6 then maybe they get 2 bottom 6, 2 middle 6 and 1 top 6. It still won't be entirely fair as some team may get two bottom 6 sides, but you could manage it by giving certain difficulty weightings to positions and ensuring the total for each team is within a certain range. Benefits would be: - A much fairer draw ensuring a top 6 team doesn't play two bottom 4 sides twice - Ensures more blockbusters in the lead up to finals -
The backline looks settled with May, Lever, Petty, Rivers, Hibberd, Salem and Hunt barring injuries. I think the key questions are: - Will they give Weid another crack at CHF - I doubt this week as he has played in a wet game on a Sunday so not much turnaround to Friday. - Will they drop Sparrow for Harmes - I'm not opposed to this given Harmes ability to tag, but again he is coming off a short break and a wet game. - Will they drop someone like Spargo - I think it's unlikely given Goodwin and Co like continuity in the team. Only change I could see is Harmes for Sparrow but even that is unlikely.

JAKE BOWEY APPRECIATION THREAD.
DistrACTION Jackson replied to leave it to deever's topic in Melbourne Demons
Second year player still finding his feet. Had a great end to last year but is nowhere near the finished product and needs to continue to improve his defensive game. Will be a nice replacement for Hibbo when he's finished.... -
I was more thinking we spend the money we would've for Jacko on adding more class to our midfield and then find an adequate ruck/forward to do that role. I absolutely wish we could get a gun key forward, just not sure where we are going to pluck one from?

Surely the AFL will appeal the appeal. -
TRAINING: Friday 12th August 2022

Hopefully the boys can complete the full captains run unlike our AFL matches. -
I definitely don't think he's the answer to all our problems, but I think he is one we should be looking at to bolster our forward/ruck stocks. I just have NFI why we would spend $700k on Brodie Grundy when we have Max Gawn. We could easily get bye with a half decent second ruck/forward and spend the money in bolstering other areas. Do we look at one of the Giants mids that want to leave and look to play Petracca forward more? Edit: The pies have f'ing Darcy Cameron dominating for them who they are paying peanuts.
-
I think Hayden McLean is the one we should be looking at from Sydney. 197cm ruck/forward who has kicked quite a few goals in the VFL and can't get a look in at Sydney. Only 23 so has plenty of upside in his game.
-
Just need Gawn to take a few more marks in the goal square to make sure of them....

Had a verbal argument with a Pies fan after the game and then he hit me in the side of the head..... My previous most hated side was West Coast as I grew up in Perth, that has now changed. They are genuine scum and tbh a lot of their players are extremely unlikeable as well. The carry on after the game like they had just won a final was ridiculous. Can't wait to see them choke in the finals. Oh and if Jeremy Howe retires with no flags I'll be a happy man.... biggest [censored] of them all
-
I think Harmes comes in as medi-sub and Brown in for Weid.
-
If he misses his family, surely he is building up enough frequent flyer points to get his parents over once a month....
-
He's originally from Perth and I think he's pretty cooked now.

I'd say with Gus signing it is highly likely we have upped our offer a bit knowing my namesake is gone. I reckon Lloyd Meek will be part of the deal to partner with Gawny, but we will probably also want a top 10 pick plus another pick late 1st early 2nd.
-
I think we are all sitting here hoping we see that switch flicked this week. If we do it will give me a lot more confidence heading into the end of the regular season and into finals. If we don't it's hard to see us getting our best back this season.

Angus Brayshaw Re-Signs Until 2028
DistrACTION Jackson replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
If he does feel a bit disgruntled at not playing more midfield time - which I'm not saying he definitely is, just surmising. I don't really understand why we can't include him in some of the midfield rotations? It's not like our midfield are unstoppable at the moment. We were beaten in clearances by 14 on the weekend. -
Ladder predictor shows we would finish either 2nd or 3rd winning two games depending on other results. Just have to find a way to win! Holding out hope we can get a similar run as the end of last year, but not confident now. The lack of pressure and ability to win clearances is disgraceful atm with a midfield so strong. Need to change it up, add a bit more variety.

The fact the Eagles have pick 2... or even 1 in the pre-season draft is perfect for us. We just hold out until we get the deal we want. If Freo come with that kind of offer, they better be ready with stuff to get it done or they look like idiots.
-
Amazing that Selwood has done this his whole career but now suddenly it's an issue. AFL are a joke
-
Do we take the hit in the ruck and go find a cheaper back up option. We then use the salary and trading pieces to potentially go out and get ourselves another gun mid like a Taranto from GWS? This would then allow us to play Trac more forward at times and make us more dangerous. Then I can change my name to the Tarantolar..... easy fix
-
Looks likely I'll have to change my name again. Is there anyone we definitely don't want playing for us? I'll just change it to that. Ps. last name was based on Dom Tyson....

Geelong are hell bent on never using draft picks ever again.
