  1. The grounds for appeal should be that the tackler was in a low position - see above - and when Fritsch's forearm made contact with the North player's forearm Fritsch's forearm was deflected upwards. You can actually see this on the replay of the incident. The AFL is a joke: there should not be laws for the geese and laws for the gander.
  2. Your analysis reeks of Class Contempt. So you are a 'winner' ( landwoner) therefore you are entitled to better treatment ( slaves) . Nah, if all men are created equal they should all be treated the same way. So you're in a team that's won a few flags. By your reckoning that gives them the right to play the Upper Class Landlord and the right to leniency. No-one has the right to abuse their fame, power, call it what you want. I guess that makes me a Leftie...
  3. If you look closely, the North player lowered his body before contact. You might also note that Fritsch's forearm initially made contact with the North player's forearm and then got deflected upwards.
  4. 6: Salem 5: Jackson 4: langdon 3: Pickett 2: Fritsch 1: Oliver
  5. Not to mention how often since 1964 Melbourne dropped these games, not to mention how we have hardly won in Hobart. In the meantime, in the Twos are two beauties with enormous potential - Chandler and Bedford - and Uncle Nev is playing great football.
  6. I saw some of the VFL game and Sparrow was the player who stood out. I would make VIney's spot his until Viney is ready again. Sparrow's disposal impresses me as much as his toughness. I also believe Harmes is still an essential ingredient because of his tagging ability. For the time being, Tom Mac to CHB, Weidemann to cover Tom, Sparrow for Viney and Harmes for Baker. Petty is another option. He has great upside waiting to be honed and tested.
  7. I just turned 70, bro. I've done my share of Demon Culture since 1959...
  8. Why start a post 'Top of the Ladder' before the game has been played? Melbourne has form in putting the cart before horses. Patience, let it unfold, if they are the real thing, they are the real thing. THat will be determined week by week. It has been a STRANGE season so far, topsy upon turvy and vice versa. Remember too, we would like to be September heroes for a change. March to July are one act preludes.
  9. I recall 1991 when Jakovich had to kick over 70 goals in the Reserves before he got a gig. It's tough cookies at the moment, breaks here, brakes there...Weidemann was holding his marks last night - against weak opposition however. I like the lad, his time will come.
  10. I'm aware of that: I love it. I may have worded my post badly: my point was that Norf won the first 9 because - according to my North supporter friend - their draw was staggered. That's certainly not the case with the Demons this year. In fact, before the season started there was speculation we could win very few of the first six games. I'm so proud of the players and the coaches.
  11. I agree: the Norf/2016 situation is different now that I understand how a 9 win run was possible. Yep, I can see things in this side not on display for a very long time. Why then, do I still fear fronting the games we should romp home in? For example, I always felt confident we would beat Richmond- we made them look ordinary in a pre-season game. For some reason I have heebie jeebies about the next three weeks...
  12. For the sake of historical perspective, in 2016 North won their first nine games. A friend - an ex North player( Reserves in Barassis's time ) says it was because of the draw: in other words, they played the bottom teams first. After reality hit, they won another 3, lost an Elimination final and that was it. April, May, June and July champions don't bring home the bacon. Keep going, lads, keep going.
  13. You can watch the whole incident unfold on the VFL replay site. It shows Kozz trying to move and being held and blocked every time he moved. The ball, you'll recall, is on the other side of the field. This goes on for a little while and eventually Kozz thurns back and runs into the Tiger [censored] and lets him know he doesn't appreciate his attention. A nearby umpire has watched all this and done sweetFA about it. Eventually, his conscience gets the better of him and he awards a free kick to Kozzie. He then should have followed up with a 50 metre penalty.
  14. Tomlinson played in just about every position on the field at GWS, many as a Centre Half back.
  15. 6: Salem 5: Petracca 4: Langdon 3: T. McDonald 2: Lever 1: Pickett.
  16. He reminds me of our boy Smith. I wish the both of them all the best.
  17. Aldo depends on where in Germany, Switzerland or Austria you came from: in my company 'eye' is pronounced ' Ay', more like 'hey'...
  18. Yawohl: you are correct. I assumed people knew that! Imagine the turmoil had I spelt it as Veideman?
  19. The original Weidemans may well have been Weidemanns. And everybody who wishes to be pedantic about this ought to be advised that Weideman is pronounced WAYDEMAN in German, or, to be perfectly correct Waydeman with a soft A, as in un-lock....
  20. 6: Gawn 5: Lever 4: Salem 3: Oliver 2:Jackson 1: Hibberd
  21. I have been a Demon supporter since 1959. I was nine years old then.I went to the footy as often as I could. I stopped going as often as I could after 1965: I mainly went with my brother and my son who were both Fitzroy supporters. I listened though, followed them, went to a few games in 1976 and when Barassi first came back. Then came the Northey and early Balme Resurrection and I listened to most games. Then the cruel last two years of Balme when injuries decimated us, then that weird but often great Daniher period, when I still listened. Which is a long winded way of saying I can't listen or watch live any more, not even in 2018. I watch the replays the nest day if we win. I do keep up with the stats though. In the meantime, I was glad they didn't drop Jordon after an ordinary game last week and was thrilled when I saw he got a bit of the ball today: I felt really happy for him. In the meantime, I'll watch the highlights tonight, the full replay tomorrow and I will cast my 6,5,4,3,2,1 after that. Go Dees.
