  1. I have been looking all night and I am yet to see Pia
  2. Jack watts sitting next to toump ~~~ interesting
  3. Entree was lamb Main was chicken Dessert was chocolate
  4. My guess would be pretty spot on with burgan's top 5. From memory each player who plays is given a rating out of 10 by 3 coaches so the maximum you can get per round would be 30 whereas a sub would be expected to get atleast 3? I think vince will take it out. tmac to poll exceptionally well for the first half, however; his chance to win depends on how highly the coaches rate his second half in terms of standing the opposition etc. I think viney would have given it a real shake but missing ~6 games could mean it's too hard to catch up. Is anyone else going?
  5. I'd happily do howe for Aaron Hall
  6. Really liked t mac especially in the last 1/4
  7. ive been hoping for a harmes debut all season now so it will be good to have a look at him I remember reading that he lead casey for contested possessions last year and the majority of his possessions were contested (>50%). Only a handful of players in the Afl put up those kind of numbers
  8. Bit hard to include bail in our midfield rotations when he will be a direct trade for JOM
  9. I hold no grudge for him leaving Interestingly he sat behind me during the queens bday match. Either he still has a soft spot for the dees or he came to support Daniher. I respect him for coming
  10. Can't believe how rubbish they have been this year. I thought they showed some okay signs last year This year they have brought in beams, luey, bundy, rich, robinson to their team from last year and some how managed to go backwards imo. I guess it's hard to play for a coach who choke slams his players
  11. Why would patrick dangerfield want to go to that rabble? :S
  12. Really promising write up! Hope he avoids the vestAlso happy to hear that Mitch White is building. Ranked about 30th overall for players drafted last year. Strengths are kicking and intercept possession so I hope we see him play on some lesser forwards soon so he can drop off
  13. I saw them at the game yesterday too Also saw Jared Rivers so good to see some past players still having a soft-spot for the dees
  14. I want to see us kick more goals than last year.. 3 goals for a game including one being kicked in the opening minute is not a fun game to watch. Surely the inclusions of garlett and hogan plus our faster ball movement means we can kick a better score Also a big night of tv afterwards - roosy on 360, Tmac on the couch and jones classified?
  15. I was there sitting in the great southern stand. I don't think Nathan Buckley was playing because of a hamstring and he was nice enough to stop and have a chat to me at the player race Probably my earliest memory of a Melbourne game along with the final against carlton later that year.
  16. Hi everyone, I thought in stead of peppering this thread I should try and contribute.. I remember on footy classified they were talking about average age of teams who played on the weekend, and some melbourne supporters were angered to hear that our team had a relatively high average age. It is usually assumed that a high average age should equal some form of success, however; it goes without saying, we are not a good team. therefore I think it is important to look at the simple age distributions of our team. for a form of comparison ive also posted the simple freo age distribution (seeing as they are the current benchmark), as well as the games played. at the bottom I've also posted a simple scatterplot of age, vs games played for both sides. Melb are red, freo blue.. from this I think you can take away a few points. The freo age distribution has a noticeably longer tail of 29 and over (12 to 3). this can also suggest that we are lacking a huge amount of experience that these players are able to give to their teams. We have a large number of players aged in the 25-28 who have yet to play 50 games. I blame the recruiting of three-four years ago when the club chose to pick up several stop-gaps; jones, terlich, pedo etc. Not that I am saying it was a good move or a bad move, it was an attempt by the club to fill the needed age group on the list.
  17. I'm not saying that UP's are unimportant because they are. I'm more saying that the use of the above perceived correlation, which over a longer period of time is even weaker, cannot be used for prediction, ie: you cannot say that we will win the game, if we in the UP. This is referred to as causality and I'm happy to apply the appropriate tests once I get some free time, however; just by looking at the correlation it remains highly unlikely that there will be anything significant If anyone has a large dataset of any football statistics ( Champion data have cut me off) in an appropriate file, I would love to have a play around Also, I'm happy to be proven wrong on my above point, so please let the discussion continue
  18. afl is a pretty involved sport with a lot of indicators and it is too simple to say that winning is a result of a UP differential. In your chart the two are vaguely correlated but I would say that that it is a spurious relationship at best, with the lurking variable an accumulation of other KPI ie CP, de% Perhaps a granger test would be appropriate to this situation; although it's not really my area so I may have my tests mixed up haha
  19. correlation does not imply causation. I think you will find this is coincidence rather than causality
  20. Interesting they are preparing to play Melbourne with touch footy. Bruise free footy
  21. Good to see him play a good game. I was surprised when he got the call up the week after being stretched off from the casey game. He is tall but I don't think he has the smarts or skills to play as a forward. He isn't the greatest overhead mark for a 2m tall player. His strength is his pace and quickness for such a large player so it's good to see the coaching department try and reinvent this guy in a position that utilizes his strengths and relies less on his marking/kicking. I think for team structure it would be good to have him there taking the resting ruck or the taller forwards releasing dunn. This week I would have thought he takes one of lobbe ryder when they are played forward. Dunn too schultz after his solid games on him last year. Tmac to someone like westhoff who bases his game on endurance running. Jetta hopefully back in to give wingard a bath again. As for the outside players I think we would have to put some time into a matt white (daniel cross? rohan bail?) and maybe a pittard? I think richmond laid the blue prints on how to beat port last week - pushing numbers up and choking the contest. If this is the case then I expect vandenberg to have another positive game and riley may start and dom tyson a chance to be brought back in?
