I reckon our girls took votes off each other in the RS too. Judges would have different thoughts on who the best mfc player was etc.

THE DROUGHT IS OVER by George on the Outer - POST MATCH DISCUSSION
deanox replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
At 3/4 time clayton was top possessions for least time as well. I've been getting texts from non mfc supporters watching at home commenting on how good Oliver was. Fwiw i didn't think we were horrible in the first. We lost the inside mid battle but the rest of the side was competing and working hard. -
THE DROUGHT IS OVER by George on the Outer - POST MATCH DISCUSSION
deanox replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
I couldn't really see much that changed at quarter time from a coaching perspective. Id be interested if anyone saw any positional or match up changes. But our mids got on top. Largely through Clayton lifting I thought. And that a) gave our finishers, like Petracca and Hunt, use of the ball, and b) took the pressure off our defenders. When the mids perform Oscar and Co aren't forced to make 50/50 decisions on spoiling or staying down, on pushing up or coming back. When the mids preform our forwards have space. We're going to hurt this year when the mid field has a bad time of it. But when we're on top, we're going to look good. -

I noticed this. Media will blow the lid off but the players won't. -
Lewis has fluffed disposal quite few times though. Might be lack of options.
-
We got on top in the guts. That's why everything else clicked. Simple.
-
Mithen just got smashed by Chuon after getting rid of it. Looked nasty but she's up and going again.
-
I think the % dream is over and is all up to Collingwood now. We have played really good football today. Disposal has been clean. I hope we get the chance against Brisbane next week.

I think is fair to say he has been often ignored or not seen when in space. Early this may have been a team mate confidence in his abilities. He wasn't a good contested mark and if the players couldn't trust themselves to kick to advantage, it was probably a turn over. Later I think has probably been more a scaring/game style issue i.e. we didn't look long for options up forward as we didn't expect them. I think the issue is less obvious than it once was, and will be interesting to see how it plays out this year.

Gawn is our biggest asset and hardest to replace. It makes perfect sense to go easy on him in preseason. Play Spencil with him. Test both out individually and on field together. We had extra interchanges and players compared to regular season. So it doesn't hurt to protect Gawn. Will Spencer play R1? I don't think so. But I honestly don't think playing two rucks in all the JLT has anything to do with regular season games given the different interchange conditions.

Yes. He is on the 3 quarter time huddle. -

Is Trengove able to come on as an interchange? -

Brayshaw snagging to get us a goal. But that watts dropped mark was a12 point turn around. -

Oh God yeah re disposal. Especially brain fade silly disposal like the seams last year. No one could doubt that can be an issue. If they could clean that up they'd be two of the best in the comp. -

Yep, I just enjoyed seeing brayshaw look comfortable out there and go on hard. He looked spaced last year after injuries. And I agree about the Macs. I think they get a hard time around here because honestly, whenever anyone else mucks up they are the ones on the receiving end. But Oscar laid a nice take that wrapped the player up showing an increase in body strength from last year. As you said though, Oliver bog at the moment. -

I'll add to that: Jones had been in it a lot, I'm happy with Braysure given his last year. Petracca has had it a bit. Also Oscar has done some nice things. -

I only watched the second quarter and didn't see him. He has 0 minutes and 0 stats according to the AFL website. But do do Thomas Barrass and Jack Redden. So I'm not sure if it means anything. -
Was definitely Col against Buddy. He avoided getting in one on one strength contests and just read the ball in the air all day to get the drop on him. He also matches up well once the ball hits the ground with pace and agility that the bigger defenders dont have.

In just over half the game time the blokes get.

Half way mark doesn't mean much when we are talking seven games and only two finalists. If it's easier, think of it as we've just played round 20 and have 3 games to go, because that is the situation we're dealing with!
-
Not exactly: they play each other next round, then we play Adelaide the week after. If Adelaide lose both and we win we'll take second spot. The only way we take top spot is of Adelaide win next week, we beat them the week after and we can turn the % around. But then we risk finishing third on %.

Cranston alone in the goal square puts us 6 points up with 2.30 to go!
-
Scores level. Carlton have all the run.

Classic Melbourne. 19 points up at 3/4 time but switched off as the last quarter starts and it's back to 6 with 8 minutes to go. Need the next goal.
