Oliver has only played 28 minutes, been on bench the rest of the time. For context OMac has played 55. better than tackling soft like in the past!* *but needs improvement
-
i hope they do. He is a rise to the occasion player and loves a chirp to get him in motivated. I'm expecting a big game.

he didn't have the option of pleeing guilty

"Yeah so you should with all your draft picks"
deanox replied to Stevienic23's topic in Melbourne Demons
i think having not had a priority pick since 2009 makes it pretty clear cut that our resurgence this year has to be attributed to good drafting and player development, not bonus picks or a helping hand. -
Poor short kick. Over 40m hee was fine.
-
Cannot believe that was a free against Viney.

cheers

Who's injured?
-
Unnecessary from Lewis butI think it was accidental.

How is that not a trip?

How was that holding the ball?

What do we think? I picked us. I'm a bit nervous but less so than other weeks. No idea why. Is it the narrow subiaco that I think suits our game plan? Is it our 100% interstate record? Regardless its hard to believe we are actually a chance, especially without Watts and Jones. Maybe I'm delusional?

Not a problem. We've spent more time I the top 8 in the first half of this season than we had in the previous 10 seasons collectively. We've got this

I wasnt suggesting that was the case and as per DD other stats like clearances are important. Im just surprised how often contested balls get thrown around as a valuable indicator of performance or toughness.
-
Contested possessions is a pretty silly stat to pick someone on. Hardball gets? Yes. But a loose, bouncing ball in 25 m space away from opposition and an in and under clearance handball are both considered a "contested" ball according to champion data.

I wonder if this is indication that there will be no unforced changes after the win? Ie Gawn for Jones only.

"'Pedo' will play. He's been in exceptional form and we want to be a club that rewards players in good form," Goodwin said on Thursday. ... Former co-captain Jack Trengove was not in the selection mix to replace key midfielder Nathan Jones (calf) as he continues to improve his game playing as a half-back in the VFL. "He's still got a little bit of stuff we want to see from him," Goodwin said of Trengove, who hasn't featured at AFL level since round 13 last season. "He won't be a selection option for us this week, but he's starting to really push his claims over the next few weeks." Here is some more info but still lacking clarity.

They following are excerpts from the MFC website about Jacks performance. All are positive and suggest he should be in contention, except for this line "The great thing about him is that he accepts what’s given to him" which indicates they have told him he isn't hing to play AFL. It could also mean he is willing to play a variety of roles in the team. "Jack Trengove and Josh Wagner continued their strong form, pushing through the middle with 29 and 27 disposals respectively.", http://m.melbournefc.com.au/news/2017-06-17/casey-makes-it-four-in-a-row 17 June, 2017 "Jack Trengove: He had 20 disposals, six tackles, four rebound 50s and kicked one goal. Jack continues to play at a really high level in the VFL. He’s been consistent and the pleasing thing about Jack is that he’s playing a number of different roles. The great thing about him is that he accepts what’s given to him. He continues to demand a high standard from his teammates and he provides strong leadership. We’re lucky to have Jack playing the way he is at VFL level. I thought his game on the weekend was very good again." http://m.melbournefc.com.au/news/2017-06-15/vfl-player-review-round-eight 15 June 2017 "Jack Trengove: Jack had 28 possessions, including 10 contested possessions, four clearances and six tackles. He continues to really impress around his team-first actions and leadership at VFL level. He did a lot of work around the contest and I thought his ability to get the ball out, around the contest, was a highlight. Jack was also able to show some composed ball use, which allowed us to take the ball forward a number of times." http://m.melbournefc.com.au/news/2017-06-07/vfl-player-review-round-seven 7 June, 2017

This makes me sad, even if just because there is no obvious reason he isn't in consideration. His VFL form appears good and VFL coaches reviews are positive. I assume Jack knows what's going on but out would be nice to have some clarity - it's almost like there is a secret. Lack of pace can't be all it is.

Good response, thanks, I hadn't considered that aspect. If he tries a run with role on the outside ghee may risk getting worked out of it. I think the narrowness of subiaco will suit us. My theory is our zone works perfectly at Ethihad but we've been opened up a bit on the wider MCG allowing teams to get up the center. We play a zone with extra numbers at the ball then try and push up to defend and slow the ball while the numbers loop back. When teams go wide we can't get across quick enough. If this is the case I'm not sure the lack of pace will expose Trengove. He'll sit in the contest at stoppages then have less width to cover in the zone than at the G. We won't be relying on him to loop around and or defence out the back, so i dont think his pace will be exposed. In the longer ground his overhead work may even come in handy.
-
As an endurance athlete, surely he is more likely to improve as the game goes on and slows down around him?
-
I think I disagree. Ice got a theory that our defensive zone works better at Ethihad as it is narrower than the G, where the extra width opens it up allowing teams to find a gap. Subiaco is 15 m longer, but narrower than ethihad again. "Bigger" in this case doesn't affect modern defensive. I'm really interested to see how it works for us.
