  1. im not sure how meaningful the stats will be. he plays a very different CHF roll to many others (especially when neitz is in the team). i believe that ND is happy for neitz and robbo to be our goalkickers with miller leading up the ground and straightening us up. i like miller leading up the ground and marking it, ready to feed into the forward 50. its a plan that works, and can be very effective, especially when our midfield delivery is on song. however, i would like to see millers kicking distance increase to around 50-55 metres. i know thats hard, but if he is going to lead away from goal, he needs to be able to kick goals when he marks around the 50. and i would like to see him go back and kick it into the 50 more often rather than handball to a player running past. i can only assume this is a coaches order (to stop opposition players manning up and double teaming inside the forward line), because if it wasnt i am sure it would have been stamped out of his game.
  2. another key thing about adelaide is that even though their top players are out, they have played virtually the same team all season. we have been very interupted, putting a completely different combination of players onto the park every week. it is hard to get rhythm and team work happening when your players arent used to playing together...
  3. http://www.heraldsun.news.com.au/footy/com...5E20322,00.html "Godfrey, in the top three at Melbourne for aerobic fitness alongside Cameron Bruce and Nathan Jones" the story is actually about godfrey and was posted elsewhere, but im amazed that bruce is in the top 3 at the club. i believe godfrey and jones, but i thought other players up there wouldve been bell, jmac and davey before bruce...
  4. so 7 people said they would prefer someone other than judd or pavlich to come to melbourne? only on the demon bnadwagon metnioned j brown. who were the others?
  5. was just joking dan! lol
  6. sorry my mistake. but that just backs my point further...he has had 2 years, one of which he was out injured...this is effectively his second year then, when as a developing forward thats hardly any time...
  7. could we sack byron as a player but reemploy him to be our tackles and toughness coach?
  8. guys i was just reading newtons profile on the mfc website and it was interesting to read that he'd missed most of his first year on our club list with a back injury, something i'd forgotten about... he only turned 20 a week and a half ago, he has had 3 years in the system, one of which he was injured, and he is a developing tall who tend to take longer. its also interesting to note that he played on a wing in his junior days and on when he played senior footy, not up forward...nut he is 193cm and 92kgs. i think we need to realise that this kid isnt going to get a jumper and be a star, and its not as simple as this is his 4tf year he should be in there now...
  9. i actually dont mind miller, but if robo is to return he has to come at the expense of one of the tall forwards i believe. neitz, dunn and miller are the three and miller out of that miller will be the one to go. dunn is showing more and neitz is captain. robo is better than miller... its a tough one. can we play all four in the side? who would we drop to bring miller back in?
  10. source of this 'insider news'? doesnt sound very convincing because thats a pretty elaborate deal to be made up at the stage of the year...
  11. i agree with most of your justifications, particularly yze and holland. the only query i have with the frawly/holland swap is that you are making a massive call for a kid who hasnt even played a full half for sandy seconds. are you that confident he will slot straight in. no zac dawson about him? regarding godfrey, on his current form would you just drop him? if the form continues would you be happy to kepp him in the side? and i agree i have probably forgotton how good bartram is...
  12. bay riffen, you have added 3 players into the team, all smalls (petterd, bartram and pickett). have dropped holland and godfrey. who else would you drop? and do you worry that we will be too small?
  13. even with the quality of the tagging jobs godfrey has performed over the past 3 weeks? i thought he has been amongst our best this season, and if he continues this tagging form would be a walk up start to the side. the list of 'emergency' players were more the players who i think can stake a claim for a spot in the side. i havnt seen frawley, but obviously the FD rate him very highly to name him as an emergency straight away. do rate him that high that he demands a spot in our 22 having never played a game for sandy seniors or for the dees?
  14. i think pav will make more of a differnce for us regarding a tilt at a premiership...
  15. hey jarka if that happened and judd and pavlich both offered to walk what would you do? apart from encouraging one to wlk, and trading your first round pick for the other
  16. within two weeks one would assume that we have almost all of our list available (clint bartram, issac weetra and mark jamar are the exceptions). clint bartram had an outstanding season last year but i wouldnt say he is gauranteed a walk up start. he would then be the only regular senior player out with injury. how do we pick a best 22? this is the 22 that fronted up for us last saturday: MELBOURNEfc Team Backs: D.Ward, N.Carroll, A.Yze Half backs: N.Brown, B. Holand, D.Bell Centreline: M.Bate, J.McDonald, A.Davey Half forwards: B.Green, B.Miller, C.Bruce Forwards: C.Sylvia, D.Neitz, B.Moloney Followers: J.White, S.Godfrey, T.Johnstone I/C From: P.Johnson, N.Jones, L.Dunn, M.Warnock Emergencies: B.Pickett, J.Frawley of the players not playing, Rivers, robertson, wheelan, mclean come into our best side. walk up start. ward, brown and warnock will be the players who lose their spots, but that leaves us with an extra midfielder. we also need a player to go to get robertson in. thats gonna be either dunn or miller, and with a couple of poor weeks in a row miller could be the unlucky one... however, petterd has performed fantastically this year and is one who deserves a spot, while bartram had a great season last year, and is only out for injury. pickett, is suspended for a few weeks but when fit is in our best 18. can we fit either petterd or bartram in? having a look at the modified team below i think there is definetly room for another of either bartram or petterd (or even CJ) as a backman, but that means we probably need to drop another midfielder. thoughts on the mfc best team? Backs: M. Wheelan N.Carroll, A.Yze Half backs: C. Bruce, J.Rivers, D.Bell Centreline: M.Bate, J.McDonald, B. McLean Half forwards: B.Green, L.Dunn, A.Davey Forwards: C.Sylvia, D.Neitz, R.Robertson Followers: J.White, S.Godfrey, T.Johnstone I/C From: P.Johnson, N.Jones, B.Moloney, B. Holland Emergencies: B.Pickett, J.Frawley, R.Petterd, C.Bartram, B. Miller, C.Johnson ? i dont really think there is anyone else who could justify a spot in this team at the moment, except for perhaps newton as the reserve forward. but that aside how do you see the make up of the best 22, assuming we are injury free?
  17. MELBOURNEfc Injury List Russell Robertson - Knee - Test Brock McLean - Foot - Test Paul Wheatley - Shoulder - Test Matthew Whelan - Hamstring - Test Ricky Petterd - Hamstring - Test Jared Rivers - Back - Test Brad Miller - Ankle - Available Mark Jamar - Hamstring - 2 Weeks Clint Bartram - Knee - 4 weeks Isaac Weetra - Wrist - 5 weeks
  18. are you saying that players like rivers arent as good as an equivalent forward, because he plays a negating role? he reads the play better than almost anyone... what about players like scarlett? they get run and create play.
  19. jealous?
  20. this lovey dovey is almost as bad as dappa dan and jaded in the general disucssion forum JJC and fan
  21. miller has always struggled with distance. he is not a penetrating kick. he thought too much about kicking that ball hard and stuff it up/ like trying to belt a cricket ball, you need to time it.
  22. redleg i agree with you entirely, i think its becoming a blight on the game. i dont mind occasional mistakes but the umpires give too much leway sometimes and just pay the softest of soft another. of the bulldogs first 7 goals. 6 came either directly kicked from free kicks, or as the result of a free kick (ie free kick on the flank, the kick was marked in the forward 50 and a goal kicked. 6 of their first 7 the umpires had a direct involvment in. how does that work? we get a lot of free kicks on the half back flanks, and not many kicking into our 50.
  23. cross did have a good game on sunday...
