  1. i know this comes up occassionally, but i cant believe how slow the afl site lacks to load and to simply do anything. they could learn alot from baggygreen.com which is fantastic with its cricket coverage...
  2. there is no problem with the rule. there never has been, it is how people wish to interpret it. you could never, and still cant, place your hands on and opponents back. if a player backs into you no worries. you cannot ever get leverage with your hands, but balance should be fine. the reason they tightened down on the rule was so there was no grey area cos the umpires didnt call it properly. now there is no excuse for the umpires. apparently you cannot 'oush' with a forearm or closed fist. thats bs, of course you can...
  3. correct, but you cannot deny the kid has serious potential...he can kick it 60m with accuracy, he can mark. he can wion his own footy. he can run- both fast and all day. he has the hair to catch the umpires eyes... he is out of form. he isnt kicking well. he is looking up instead of picking the ball up cleanly. today with a bit of confidence he started grabbing everything and kicked a couple...he will be a player. a star? im not sure, but he will play a few games no worries.
  4. well he was on 21 touches at 3/4 time and he had less than 24 for the game so maybe...dunno anything else though...
  5. do you reckon anyone really tries to teach him to kick?
  6. moloney and bell have been two of our best this year. havnt you been watching the games? bell played like a star today, he was fantastic... sylvia, well he has been discussed in another thread. and to think you brought up morecroft speaks volumes for your footy understanding...
  7. demon josh i didnt think he did too badly. he is never going to be one of our big possie winners, but he is about impact. a few possies, the big tackles. he looks fat, but he is quick when he needs to be and i thought he looked alright today. he is a match winner, and a big game player who adds toughness to our side. im a believer that we need him in. he will only get better...
  8. 2.8 is terrible. i cant see why proffessional footballers can be that bad at kicking for goal...

very good point. i didnt think he was the worst today. he seems to just go...needs to step up a gear. burst some makes, make a contest. then again, if he'd kicked two today he wouldve had a great game...
  10. davey wont go. umpire was standing there and didnt think it was worth a report. that should be enough evidence as you need. it wasnt malicious. he didnt hit him hard either...
  11. and why bother paying a freekick off the ball that has no bearing on the contest? just to be part of the action...
  12. if newton doesnt get a run next week i'd be surprised. thats 11 goals in 2 weeks surely thats enough to justify a run in the senior side? miller is unlucky i think. he had a poor first game but has come back strongly. rounds 2-4 were good. he was stuffed around last week by moving him to CHB but recovered alright. he doesnt kick enough goals when neitz is in the team. right now i think he is probably a long term prospect, post neitz. but he is unlucky terrible today, average last week just as neitz comes back from injury and juice hits some straps. the only problem with a straight swap is, is juice strong enough at CHF. dunn is a bit slight, a flanker size really. is playing newton alongside him there a risk?
  13. i heard he played a half down there...but if he played on kingsley or riewoldt he cant of done too well...
  14. interesting, they gave best on to bate on triple m. at first i disagreed and i then i thought about it. it was pretty even, he kicked a couple and had a lot of footy...
  15. i am not arguing that we didnt take our opportunites, but how can you claim they didnt cost us at crucial moments? they dissallowed a goal that we had kicked, with only a couple of minutes left in the game by paying a suspect free kick. that would have won us the game. how more crucial can you get?????
  16. was one of the best fullbacks for a while. very solid. pity he couldnt kick. but well done on a good career all the same.
  17. not really in the theme or mood of this thread is it? trav well done on getting 150 up for the dees. use it to fire up son, lets have a big one tomorrow.
  18. yeah i thought that was pretty much the case...think about it. how much do we charge for membership? now if the same person came and paid to get into every home game what is the cost? the reason the big clubs do so well is because they charge reserve seat prices which dont cost any more- its all profit. west coast and adelaide make heaps out of this. so would collingwood and essendon i assume. you're always guaranteed a seat at an mfc game so we don't get that revenue. the membership is guaranteed income. only 16,000 turned up to freo but we had 27,000 members pay for their tickets effectively. if we had 50,000 members and 25,000 turned up to a game along with 20,000 non members, the effective revenue would be 70,000. i know that is way over simplistic but we get that money whether they come or not. higher membership numbers mean bigger exposure for sponsors through websites, magazines, at games etc. do a straw poll around the office and ask who everyone barracks for then see if they know who their major sponsor is. then see if they know melbournes sponsor. bigger supporter base, bigger advertising.
  19. bibelieve our forward line was dysfunctional to the point of non-existance in the saints game. miller was struggled with only 1 mark. aaron davey our livewire crumber had only 9 possies and no goals. in fact neitz and robbo, our key forwards kicked 3 each so they weren't the issue. kicking long to a player or a contest is good. bombing blindly in an up and under swirler of a kick isnt effective, and chance are it will just come back over your head. Brad Green, Jeff White and Cameron Bruce were our only other 3 goal kickers that day. it sounds like the midfield went missing. when your key forwards each kick 3 goals you would hope you can get at least 5 or 6 more from the midfield. i think this is a more complex issue than simple saying, play forwards and kick it long.
  20. are you watching every game or highlights packages? just out of interest. and who were your top few last year and where did they finish? how do you rate yourself compared to the umps?
  21. i spose the reason we havnt had success doing this is because we havnt had a forward line! they've all been injured...
  22. i thought i read that last year we had one of the highest rates of scores direct from point kick ins. i laughed out loud when i read that thats why i remember. but it might not be true. does champion data have a site where you can get anything you want?
  23. west end shouldnt be used to cool the power plants...if they want to bring coopers across however we should confiscate it and enjoy. botlte conditioned ales are a delight. and so is their stout.
