  1. vote no1 for madness to be our new man in the know
  2. newton only turned 20 last friday? with 3 years in the system? he has plenty of time ahead of him...he is only a kid FCS
  3. fair summary jaded, but just not sure who to replace him with. i reckon he'll go into the media short term then come back and coach elsewhere...too much experience not too be utilised somewhere...
  4. i would think that the normal cost of a member would only just cover the gate reciept of their ground entry. the money coming from an mcc member would be all profit as i understand that the mcc pays a certain amount per person through the gates towards gate reciepts. if this isnt the case its no wonder we dont have any money! (can anyone clarify for me?)
  5. CD you took mine. i will have to go with 22,458 then...
  6. yeah fair point about his match day coaching. personally i thought the miller on hall was a negative move that shouldnt have been made. but conversly godfrey on goodes was out of left field and was a winner. i spose the big moves he has tried to make, davey and bruce in the midfield, jamar up forward etc havnt really come off. if jamar had of kicked a bag one week that wouldve been good coaching. he hasnt so we slag him off for not doing anything. green shouldve been at FF in my opinion recently but as has been shown he is one of our better ball winners, especially with half the side out. so by having him at FF he wouldve starved the forward line of supply. we do play our best footy as fast, free flowing attacking footy, but we also lost a crucial game to freo in that style and we have struggled when teams have played shut down defensive footy turning it into a scrap. run and carry to me is a variation of run and kick long. the difference being that instead of bombing long you utilise the handball untill the free man can get a clear kick, direct it appropriately and hopefully to allow time for the players up field to present. at the moment no one is presenting (except miller) and we are struggling. the bomb it long plan falls down when we get shut down across the half forward line. i reckon if danniher had of had a great CHF to work with we would've won flags by now. but we have had a full forward and a flanker who plays tall. when we play fast aggressive footy we pay dearly on the rebound, and everyone was critical of ND for this. we couldnt play the tempo footy with the best of the teams so last year he introduced that game plan and style as an alternative. run and carry is fast and aggressive footy we just don't have the cattle at the momentto pull it off. what gets me is that if we were 3 and 2 or even 2 and 3 we probably wouldnt be having these discussions at all. and i still think that with a full side on the park we wouldve come close to over running the saints and hawthorn and it wouldve been interesting against freo...
  7. no worries...what are your thoughts on it cb?
  8. im not nasher but i'll have a go. at the moment i am fence sitting too. daniher has experience at the big game. it is, whether we like it, an important quality. he was a gun player before injury cut him down. he did the right apprenticeships as assistant coach. (these first points are major qualities we would want in a new coach) he has taken a team to the GF. he has led us to the finals the last 3 years. in two of those years we were cruelly cut down by injury (i dont care what you say neitz is a massive loss, and while 1 player doesnt make the team, if you took lloyd, hall, brown, revolt or the equivilent forward out of MOST sides, they will struggle in finals footy against quality opposition.) overall we have had reasonable success without the big one. if we were a company ND would stay on because we've done pretty well. but theres only 1 winner per year in footy. his list development has been pretty good given draft restrictions and a couple of obvious blunders. this year there is nothing else he could've done. 5 months ago everyone was saying we were top 4 and a shot at the final. but i bet everyones plans involved neitz, robbo, rivers, mclean and pickett playing most of the season along with TJ and davey knowing what a football looks like (someone needs to tell them they are chasing the red thing...). there is no doubt we have been cripple by injuries. in an even competition this makes a difference. it is not an excuse but it enough reason to wait on the fate of a coach who has served us well for 9 years. the main reason i am for waiting and seeing is because we dont know whats out there. there are more dud coaches than good ones. replacing ND with a dud amature could be even worse. is ND a bit slow in making decisions on the field. yes he is. but all coaches have some faults. is ND the worst option out there? no. is he the best? we'll have to wait and see. bbub, could you get the same stats but make them all clubs winning percentage over the same period, and also all coaches winning percentage over those periods and see where ND sits then...
  9. but it wasnt needed and it clutters the thread...
  10. was there any need to post the article almost in its entirity this far down the thread? just your thoughts would have sufficed as most people who have read this thread also read the article at the top...
  11. the problem with rounds 1 and 2 is that in both games we had no fit players on the bench to rotate. this is adressed in the article as well. we have the lowest rotations than any other club in the league. is that because we dont want to rotate or because we hanv tbeen able too? given that we generally agree daniher is happy to do what other sides do when he is coaching, it makes sense we would have lots of rotations as well. when it happened to us during the saints i thought thats karma for last time we played them. but to happen the next 3 weeks as well left us in all sorts of trouble.
  12. i havnt seen the burgoyne incident so i cant comment. i will comment however on the tribunal. it is a joke, it is inconsistant, and i promise you as soon as we have a player reported they will challenge and get more weeks because they lose the early guilty plea. however. i prefer to see players get off. was what burgoyne did that bad? it was in the play i believe and he made some head high contact, not severe but could of been avoided. the way i see that is its should be a over the shoulder free kick. the trip by hodge should have gone for weeks. that was deliberate and dangerous. spitting on a player should get weeks. pushing an umpire should get weeks. if a player is bending over and you contact them with your hip that should be weeks. but little punches and pushes and soft bumps where a player gets up should be ignored. in fact even if a player doesnt get up as long as contact doesnt get made to the head (ie wheelan against ball) it should be play on. bumps are good for the game. pushing and shoving is, im afraid, part of it. its not netball, its not basketball. we dont need to be so soft.
  13. i agree choko at least he named his source...but a friend of brocks sister is a little suspect. because i know a lot of people often say a mate of mine, when they mean someone they met once. like perhaps brocks sisters friend told a friend of madness... the only source that counts is when someone who knows tells you. ie brocks sister. thats not saying its not true, and he probably didnt deserve the ridicule of the others, especially how many people quote big footy on here...
  14. awesome bbp...you managed to get double the post value for the last post! love the copy and past lol the numbers are good. i dont think bums on seats is as important as member numbers when it comes to a lot of things corporate. every member gets sponsorship material directed to their home, which they read. plus the money generated from mcc members is pure profit as they don't pay match entry fees. exciting times we have. we have ifnally got some stability of the field...now we need success on it..
  15. you would think that skills like this would be basic, like a batsmen working on his feet or a bowler using his front arm...ou would think that they would constantly be coachng and reviewing on video these types of techniques...
  16. well it was dirty and behind the play. i wouldve rathered he hit him, not a shoulder to the back. goodes got very frustrated on sat night, godfrey had his measure all day. he has had a pretty good season godfrey, i wish he would get his disposal up to a top standard, he would then be in our starting 22 (on current form)
  17. sorry RR, my post was referring to dee'viator
  18. people are harsh on bate. i think people must remember he is still young, very young. he is tall for the midfield and i think no one is really sure where to play him. his kicking can be fantastic. ie that goal on sat night. his disposal can also be terrible. he seems to fumble the ball alot which worries me. i think he is out of form, a little bit nervous, and maybe we are expecting him to do more than he is ready too. he has only played a handful of games remember. not all players are like bartram. if we had enough players he would of been at sandy. for those who have been saying play the kids they should have been watching him closely. i reserve my judgement on bate. at the moment however i think he will play for quite a while but never be the best player in the league. i stumble when i say this because he can kick it long and straight, and not many so-so midfielders do that, if he can be damaging on the score board when running from the centre or the wing he will be a good player.
  19. interesting RR, i discussed that in another thread. but i suggested that with neitz and robbo out that mental spur should have come a couple of weeks ago. the spot was there too take if he had of stood up. now that a couple of blokes younger than him have had a go maybe he will kick on. of course, there is always the chance he played well due to weaker opposition. a bit like ferg not making it at afl thus far but performing well at sandy. if he isnt picked this week, hopefully he puts in an equally exciting effort next weekend for sandy. there is no better way to get noticed by selectors than by kicking 6 goal hauls. its the best way of saying see me pick me. much better than a swag of possessions...
  20. RR, f either neitz or green come back this week would you still promote newton? could you promote him at the expense of garland even if those two came in?
  21. occo, it couldnt be that pointless, especially considering that you took part when this thread first came up
  22. is it just me, or are the date stamps on these posts so messed up that i cant work out which ladder is which?
  23. not only, as previously mentioned do you have garland twice, you also have named 3 outs (effectively only 2 because you still named garland) , but had green, bizzell, warnock, ward and neitz (5 players) all come in. so who 'disapears' to allow this team to play?
  24. im a big wrap for petterd. i admit it is the first time i have seen him play so i wont weigh into the debate about whether he was ready or not. also i am not going to cliam him to be a champion on that one performance. however, he did look the goods last night. he got inti everything, wasnt afraid to stand his ground and put himself on the line. he won his own ball, he dished it off well, his disposal was good. he thought took time when he had it. he tried to break lines. yes he got caught a couple of times, but too be honest, thats what i think football should be about. run with the ball if you get caught sometimes well good on the opposition. it doesnt have to be possession footy all the time. he played a bit up forward a bit down back and in the mid. i thought he looked most comfortable in the midfield, it seemed his natural position. he won the footy here and used it well. when he drifted forward he looked like a midfielder on the forward flank. he wont be a permanent forward but i think we can expect him to kick a few goals there over the year as he pushes forward. playing him back on davies is what interested me. a normally pretty specialist positon the small defender is. with wheelan and bartram out we might see petterd playing down here the next couple of weeks. he held davies reasonably well, had the pace off the mark to go with him and still managed to be creative when he had the ball. the reason he wasnt our leading possession getter in my mind is because of the time he spent back. if he had of played the full game in the centre i think he would have been more prolific. fwiw, i agree that we need to play the kids, but the kids need to be ready. from all accounts newton is a confidence player who probably isnt ready for the big league. that makes him very different from a player who is a work-a-holic workhorse who isnt quite ready. because when the two players go up, the confidence player can really struggle but the other bloke tries his guts out and ends up pulling his weight. ND and the footy dept are the best people to judge this, the next best are those who watch both sandy and mfc. id like to think newton would get a go. but i also would have liked to see him step up his work rate at sandy over the past few weeks because he knew that robbo and neitz were out of the dees and that if he performed there was an opportunity for him. he hasnt stepped up. maybe he doesnt want it. maybe he is lazy, maybe he is down on confidence. maybe he wont make it. from all reports he will so i'd suggest that he isnt mature enough for that step yet either.
