  1. yes i know you PMd me saying stop stalking me. but the pm was unsolicited, and you were the one who had visited my homepage (more than once) and looked me up on myspace. not once had i ever made any attempts to talk to you off the message board, PM or otherwise, and i had never made any efforts to 'track' you in cyberspace. if there was any stalking it was being done by you. dont worry im flattered. just dont do it again.
  2. for rpfc and warren dean, i remember hearing or reading CAC comment that a 'successful' draft pick according to how we rank them, is a player that plays 100 games. (on rethinking that, he may have said 50 games, but that seems way to low for me). 100 games is an interesting one, because if miller plays 15 this year then gets dumped he will qaulify as a 'success', we did get reasonable service out of him, but was he any good? prob not. i then have the issue that the club fields 22 players for 22 rounds every year, so be that judgement chances are most teams would have a similar level of success with drafting.
  3. do you really think the afl would do that? it doesnt sound like the afl i know...
  4. its not better for us financially. we make more at the g. its a crock of [censored]. it is just the afl doing it to us because they can. but 1 at TD is better than 2. the draw is slightly better than this year if we have 9 home at the g, one at td and one in canberra. hopefully the game at td is versus freo not essendon or WB...
  5. it does sound like the WCE are getting ready to close ranks and leave ben out in the cold...
  6. i would take that to be if he relapsed during competition. i reckon the afl will just deregister him and let west coast get away with it... they wont take away the pick 3 they got hard earned for judd. if they lose their normal first round pick i wouldnt be unhappy...
  7. it wasnt a cheap shot? i am quite confused at how you react. i say something friendly and jovial and you take it as an insult? im not a moderator, and i have no plans on stalking you to find out anything about you, unlike js who searched for me on myspace and berated me with pm's for a while there. im still at a loss as to why you considered that a cheap shot? all i did was ask if you share the same computer. and it does look kind of funny that you keep posting one or two minutes apart. i mean is that coincidental from different computers or do you do the log in log out thing so you can both get a try? js, i doubt you will see me the way i'm travelling. my first exam has been scheduled for the monday after, so i think i will be at home studying. but maybe next time, im not much of a footballer though.
  8. you must love the essendon list then...
  9. beat me to it. reporters were all over it before it happened almost. apparently there was a female in the car with him, and he was shirtless (dunno if thats a crime in WA or something, but it was reported)...
  10. strange post freak. firstly who cares about the confidence of delisted players? secondly, all the delisted players were much much older than miller. thirdly, what were we offered for miller? i bet it wasn't anyting any good. fourthly, of course miller ha potential, the question is how much hope do we have of seeing that potential fulfilled. you have seen him play well, kick a few goals, take marks, crash packs, and be a leader. he has a massive upside. and given his physical attributes that up side is even more valuable. now i agree with you. he is crap. has played some horrid footy the last 2 years and deserves to go. but. if you are going to keep anyone of the players delisted so far (or miller), miller was the one you kept because of the upside that could be drawn out. it might not work. it probably wont work. but there is more chance of miller having a solid season and helping us make finals than there is of godfrey, ferg or ward doing it.
  11. very good point. if someone wants to bring up player a and say 'hey i think they might offer this, and we need that' and make discussion thats fine. but just to go 'player b has been delisted, should we get him' when the player is a dud, and we are building around a core of quality under 23s is a post that wasn't worth posting...
  12. catch the train together guys? lol do you fight over who gets the computer to write on demonland? or did you learn to share?
  13. no it would be nice to only have 4 interstate games for once, instead of 6 like we have every year. i bet collingwood only have 3 or 4.
  14. geelong have a plethora of father son player in their team that they got cheap. the thing with our list, and ive been saying this for a while, is the pain of the draft penalties for salary cap cheating. we are still feeling that now. that is why we will still feel it for another 2-3 years, until we have a list that is completely unaffected by the penalties.
  15. sorry i think i wrote that badly. what if the draft pick was matched by his current club? is he forced to stay or does the player have the second chance of leaving and going into the draft where the original club still gets nothing? if thats the case there will be a balancing act where if a club names too high a price they could well lose him for nothing...and if thats not the case, the player could be forced to stay with his current club because they were willing to pay for him.
  16. what if the issue wasnt contractural? what if judd had wanted to leave the club for personal reasons ie didnt like the coach, or the culture? money is then not an issue, but according to FA he should be allowed to leave. if WCE offered to match whatever the terms were (and why wouldnt you, judd is the best player in the comp) is there anyway for judd to say, no i dont want to play with you?
  17. old, using your example, had WCE offered their first round pick and carlton didnt match it, WCE would forfeit their first round pick to retain a player they have already drafted. They then will have to pay them exorbitant prices to retain them if they stay and have demanded it. does judd have a right of refusal after all this where he can leave and take the PSD option? or is he compelled to stay at WCE? and is the player free to choose who to go to? or can any club bid, ie if he had chosen collingwood, could carlton have trumped them with the lower pick like in the f/s? or does it become a bidding war between the current club and one other club? what this also does it restricts the trade of FA to only 1 draft pick, and leaves trading players out of the equation...
  18. interesting but that makes it similar to the nba system whereby you can keep whatever player you want by matching the other offer...its not really free agency if the current club can force the player to stay...
  19. its interesting isnt it. you know what though? the sports that operate like we are have more feeling in them, than those that dont (rugyb league, international soccer). ok it might restrict some players making a bit of extra cash but i think the competition is more important than a player. they make money only because of the competition being there. to me sport is different than work. even though for these players it is their work, i think it should be regarded as 'they get paid to play football' not that "they play football to get payed". its a fine distinction but i am sure you know what i am getting at...
  20. "you four have 4 months to impress me. you are all on equal starting positions. work hard get fit. learn to mark, learn to kick. at the start of the nab cup i will pick you based on preseason training form. you then get first chance to impress me in the ruck. fail in the nab cup and you lose your spot for the next practice match. it is a battle, the prize is the rucking positions for round 1." dean bailey (if he says what i think he should say lol)
  21. marquis is right. its not like america where you need to 'press charges' if 5 people saw it and the girl denies it bad luck, if the court believs the witness. but the evidence was poor. she had no injuries, and she denied it. what i am saying is that just because it was reported in the media doesnt mean its true. the matter was investigated by police and it was determined there was no case to answer. therefore he is innocent of any crime in the eyes of the law. you cant go around saying he beats up girls...
  22. its not even now, but FA makes it less even. now the situation is you draft a player, and that player is an asset of the club. if you want them to move on you can trade them and get more assets in returns (picks or players). ok sometimes you lose the player for nothing in the psd. but only if the player is a [censored]... the whole set up of the salary cap, the draft, trading etc is there to ensure clubs are even. and have a look, clubs are even. last year we were touted as top 4. injuries made us bottom. geelong were crap last year, but with effectively the same list won the premiership. the difference between 1 and 16 is as small as it has ever been. a few injuries, a bit of luck. extra money spent off the field on staff and facilities. the quality of your recruiting dept. are the things that make all the difference these days...
  23. well done. if you search for it i started a thread about that (or posted in a thread about that years draft (i cant remember), but i worked out who had played more games, kicked goals etc we've done the best to date, with holland performing reasonably compared to even brown (considering brown also cost pick 6) due to his injury. and sam butler is the other one who hasnt played hardly at all. given our situation at the time, picking up holland was a great get, we needed some extra depth KPP and we got one who has provided good service...
  24. imo white has two years max. and it wouldnt surprise me if he goes end of 2008. jamar will not make it as a ruck. he is not good enough. he is not anywhere near as good as jolly, and jolly is a second ruck. PJ has talent yes, but he is not going to be a 1st ruck. it is more likely he will be a 2nd ruck who plays forward. meesen i havnt seen anything of so i cant comment. if pj or meesen dont step up this year we could have a serious problem next year, because PJ and jamar cant do it on their own.
  25. i will add alistair lynch to that list. he got a 10 year contract worth 150K per year back in the 90s. huge gamble for brisbane to make. but he turned out to be a gun and he couldnt renegotiate ever. very good point. yes he is entitled to earn money privately but if this isnt investigated by the afl its a joke. the club president is hiring a player to work part time for his company and is most likely paying him over the odds of what he is worth. if that isnt cheating the salary cap i dont know what is. if he was working for an independent company i could understand, but its not an independent company. obviously it depends on the words in the contract. given the position judd was in he would have baulked at such a contract. however, if we were to pick witnall up in the psd you would demand that written into the contract (ie if you are injured and cannot play you will not be payed).
