i always thought this deal was no good. i think its even better when you click on the visy website and dont see a picture of chris judd anywhere...

i think the exact figure was $4.7 mil. so $2.8 mil would leave just under $2 mil debt, and if we crack the $3 mil we will be close to only $1.5 mil.

that doesnt surprise me at all. thats about 5% of our members, proably not a bad uptake considering most of the donations are probably from cold calling or response to a mail out. think 1 in 20. i had this argument with a few people here before debt demolition month, who all seemed to think that their ideas were the best, who were 'guaranteeing' that people would be falling over themselves to donate in the 10-50% range (of members) and it has been shown here that that is not the case. we have done a fantastic effort to get this much raised. people dont have money to throw around to football clubs when petrol prices, groceries etc are the way they are. you can only harass people so much and so many times and get so much money. but a big congrats to everyone who has donated, and big encouragement to everyone who hasnt donated to get on board before the end of the month.

it'll be couch (pronounced kooch) or kiykiyu then. drought resistant. fantastic stuff. can get a slimey when wet in winter, but fantastic for sporting ovals as it will stay grassed all year round.

the most sensible thing i have ever read that you have written. well done.

who else could we have played? with half our best 22 out injured, and another 4-5 on the sidelines. should he have played yze for 5 weeks? or do you think wonna has learnt a valuable lesson about how hard it is to play afl footy? if we want him to be a good player he cant afford to sit out everytime he isnt feeling 100%. charmed run? i bet he'd disagree with that. he picked up arguably the worst list in the afl, and cut all the NQR depth players that could keep it competitive. then he lost his two key forwards, his no. 1 backman cant get on the park, and throughout the year most of the rest of the team has had to sit out, sometimes for extended periods. he has had the guts and the foresight to play young players and teach them afl. these kids are developing quickly. they dont have the bodies required just yet. they dont have the consistancy just yet. they dont have the afl smarts just yet. but he is teaching them those things by letting them play afl. some of these players wont make it. but at least we will know shortly which ones. better them try afl and fail than wallow at sandringham until its too late. next year will likely be worse than this year. we will have no white, yze, neitz, holland on the list at the start of the year, and in their place we will have 4 kids. if you thought our kids were struggling now, wait until they get injured next year and even rawer kids take thier place, without the luxery of bringing in white or yze as replacements. these kids will get more consistant as they get more experienced. bailey is giving them that experience. he might not win a flag. hell probability suggests he wont win a flag. but at least he is giving out club the best shot at it by rebuilding the list appropriately.

bate is a tall midfielder or a HFF. in effect the position he plays is like wheatly, but forward of centre not as a defender. he has good hands when out in front, but struggles to use his body. he sitn clean below his feet and he cant turn. this makes him not your number one mid, and not your CHF. these are the things people want him to be. if we had a proper midfield, and a CHF, bate would be very dangerous as a third tall in the forward line. he would be able to do stints in the middle and push forward to create mismatches. remember when all our KPP were out injured and robbo played at CHF for years and got smashed most weeks, but still chipped in for a couple of goals. it is a bit like that with bate. he is being played out of position to plug gaps, and until players step up around him he wont dominate games.

wow. could of fooled me haha.

i concour. there is a reason why we had 84% efficiency with our disposal against west coast (the best of any side this year). these players are all top line afl players. yes the general standard of disposal will vary from player to player and from team to team. but the biggest problem isnt that the skill set is so much lower, its that when you are playing well you have numbers which means you have more time. when you are playing badly, you are under pressure and have less time. and even when you have no immediate pressure, there is perceived pressure: the players know that they have been stuffing up, which makes the next kick even more important. skills in match conditions and pressure, is different to general skills.

i think those that follow him from thread to thread taking a shot at what he wrote, and trying to draw the mods attention to what he wrote are more annoying that he is. it is a distinct possibility that tez is no more than yze_magic in disguise. the only thing he/she ever does is have shots at yze_magic, and occasionally others.
-
prett good i think, although i was really dissapopinted with wheatly today. his dispoal was terrible.he got a bit of it, and was often involved in the game, but too many mistakes for me. especially considering he's played a few relaly good games lately.
-
he might not have made any tackles, but a 6 foot 6 tall forward is not your tackle man. he chased and put pressure on rather than just standing there like other players have/will/did. i thought he had an average day. but his role is to have the ball kicked to him. when we kick as badly as we do, it gives him a pretty hard job. i know i am comparing him to players who are well out of his league (and i am not saying he could tie these players boot laces), but i dont think that players like richo (2 years ago), neita, gerhig, roughhead, etc would have done any better today than he did. maybe they would have imposed their bodies on the contest more. but none of those players (who play/ed a similar role imo) would have laid more tackles or chased as much as he did today. and given the service and the game time he recieved, i cant imagine too many of those players would have kicked more goals either.

fair comment. but i think my take on it was, after todays performance, who was in our best? normally this thread is pushing its second page this long after a game. no one wants to award any players votes, and i dont blame them.
-
i am prepared, but i honestly didnt think he was that bad today. i thought he has improved on his earlier season form. he wasn't our best, he wasn't great, but i gave him votes because i thought he attacked the contests all day. and i thought he used it alright when he had it. (17 disposals, 2 tackles, 2 inside 50's)
-
did you watch him play, or just copy your assesment from a couple of weeks ago? he chased hard all day (when he was on the ground), he chased players up the centre of the ground. he ran from player to player in the forward line when port passed it around. he twice had the ball and looked for teammates to centre it to - once it resulted in a goal. when he leads he is ignored. when he is standing one on one the ball is kicked to the wrong side. he gets terrible service and rarely looked like taking a mark, but kept chasing all day. he got good service once, and he marked and kicked a goal.

6 bruce - tried all day, often on his own. should have gone forward early to exploit cornes. 5 sylvia - tried all day, disposal was amongst our best. a preseason and he could be something. 4 morton - ball magnet early, didn't use it as well as last week. wish he'd have a shot at goal from inside 50. 3 bell - used the ball well, attacked the contest hard, didn't get caught as often as in the past and spoiled well overall. 2 martin - beaten by lade? in the last quarter, but thought he put in a good effort early. progressing nicely. 1 mcdonald - in everything but not nessecarily effective. a few poor efforts, poor probably because i expect more of him. apologies to buckley. 32 possessions, i didnt realise before doing the votes. but i still dont think id change it. he never really did anything with it, even though he did work hard in attack. definitely did not work hard enough defensively. apologies to miller, our most effective forward. i dont think our forward set up is helping either him or newton. neither quite get a chance to settle in position. edit: after looking at the stats, i didnt realise bruce got so little of it. this is perhaps a good thing. whenever i saw him i thought he was doing something good, in a contest, taking a strong mark, or at the bottom of the pack. perhaps he doesnt deserve the 6 votes, but my initial reactions put him near the top, especially since i thought sylvia flashed in more in the second half.

i wonder if we are purposely losing this week so that next week we can smash the tigers and ruin their finals hopes without ruining our draft picks? finish the season on a high and all.

deanox replied to beelzebub's topic in Melbourne Demons
and isnt likely to pay as well as other CEO jobs of bigger more successful businesses. -
I am sure that NZ people have things to do in NZ for ANZAC day, and i am sure that NZders in general remember the NZ people who dies, not the aussies. great post though.

Cats' Fox back in the mix for top job at Demons
deanox replied to beelzebub's topic in Melbourne Demons
this article suggests he has pulled out. however his old contract had a clause in it that allowed him to leave if a CEO position came up at another club. -
so you dont place any credence in DD36's post then?

he can play for sandy. he only has to drive there and back. he misses saturday, he probably has to do a recovery session sunday morning, he has to eat special food friday night. it is just like playing school footy except he wont go on the [censored] friday or saturday night. he goes to PA he misses all day friday as they travel over, all day saturday, and most of sunday as they get back. which one is better for school commitments?

So I got a phone call from Jim Stynes today...
deanox replied to EVIL DEE's topic in Melbourne Demons
i pressed 1 earlier, had cricket training til 730. got home and warnock had called up so my dad donated. col garland then called back asking for me but dad told him i was out and we'd already donated. and dad didnt ask warnock if robbie was going to come over! -
are school footy commitments a possibility? has he played most of the year at school or sandy? if he has qualified for school finals it would not be a surprise if the club let him go back to play there for a weekend or two... ps sorry didnt see DD36's post. that'll explain it...

only problem it says omitted not 'vce' or similar. but i spose, he could have been omitted to allow him to do vce, ie we could have planned that all along, only get a couple of games. ah well.
