  1. Saints are trading with GWS not Bulldogs, because GWS have the outrageous surplus of talent held hostage. Bulldogs aren't prepared to give up anything good. They'll also be waiting for the father son bidding to finish so they have a clearer idea of what currency everyone has, including our Frawley compo. Bulldogs will definitely take a punt on Moore and see if Colonwood bite. He's absolutely worth pick 5.
  2. Not if he decides he wants to set himself up for life financially. Geelong would probably only have 700k unless they clear out their senior players on the big coin.I could easily see us offering him $1m/year over 6 or 7 years.
  3. Tutt nominated Carlton as his team of choice.
  4. Both excellent points. Also worth mentioning that free agency has introduced inflated individual contracts, which actually pushes the median salary of all players down. For example, players in Sydney are worse off because of free agency. A player like Buddy Franklin commanded a ridiculously inflated salary to scare off the Hawks from keeping him, so everyone else in that team took a pay cut. The AFLPA are being hopelessly short sighted here. FA benefits a very small minority of elite players, and is actually bad overall for players and the league itself (for reasons of de-equalisation amongst others, but hurting smaller clubs to the point of killing off teams, memberships and their supporters will be the death of the competition). If teams like St Kilda and us continue to lose their best players for top 8 teams, it's hard to see supporters staying with the sport much longer. If N. Jones leaves next year for example, I'd probably just about give up. Not that I think he will...
  5. How are they allowed to get both if other teams bid on both players before their first pick? They should have to choose. [censored] the AFL is a joke.
  6. So offer $75k more on what Sydney are. Should get the deal done.
  7. Exactly. If Bulldogs want their precious KPP, they need to give up a quality midfielder. Hell, give us 2 midfielders and we'll just take your Higgins compo.
  8. Let's not forget the last guy we passed on because he wasn't valued as near the pick we had. He also wanted to play for us with his best mate and ... well, let's just drop that.
  9. You get sent a GWS membership in the mail, and must watch all 22 GWS matches in the flesh.
  10. Maybe he likes to perform to the extent of his ability, rather than hold his best back because it might benefit the club that wants him? Hmmm, why does this sound familiar?
  11. Lots of interesting maneuvering going on here. GWS are dealing with the Saints, and we're dealing with the Dogs. In almost any scenario, all 4 of us get what we want if we have one pick each in the top 4, but the Saints may have a preference with Wright and McCartin. If they gift GWS Petracca then they lose that choice. The power then falls on our shoulders. Although I think we'll take Brayshaw if we keep one of the two top picks, the risk alone of us trading off BOTH picks 2 & 3 will be making St Kilda very nervous. They could trade off Petracca and end up with nothing, even by pick 4.
  12. Just meant he'd laugh if Adelaide passed up picks 3 and 20 this year after warning them time and time again, if next year they get absolutely nothing. Either way, Roosy is a voice people listen to, but the AFLPA have brought this in and the AFL can't do a thing.
  13. I have to say all the soft tissue injuries are rather hilarious. Puts our cursed pre-season injuries in perspective.
  14. I think every MFC supporter would take Vince over Sylvia any day of the week. The AFL were probably generous with our compensation then, and hopefully they are again with Frawley.
  15. Surely alarm bells are ringing at Collingwood? Something very seriously wrong there. Swan only has another few years left in him... what does that leave Pendlebury with?
  16. So many stories floating around about him, hard to know what's true. The story about texting Rivers saying "Get me the [censored] out of here". The story about telling a Dees supporter there was a "greater chance of Melbourne playing finals" than him staying. The latter could be explained by the club not entertaining re-signing him though. I'd be pretty bitter as well. Roos did consistently maintain, publicly, an overwhelmingly positive opinion on all things Chip. This is despite his on field performance looking questionable.
  17. I'd have a high opinion of myself if I'd been forced to play at Colonwood most of my career. Especially surrounded by such arrogant management.
  18. Was possibly offered a lowball contract that was, as PJ said, "on the table". Although PJ and PR did say Frawley refused to even listen to our offer or sit down with us. Doesn't back up Dale's source.
  19. I like that we have Adelaide over a barrel. We don't have to pay overs for Danger, because if we've convinced him to come to us, all we have to do is offer them a better deal than what they'd get as compensation for when he leaves next year (unless compo gets scrapped, in which case they get nothing). We're already seeing the campaign against compensation start, and that'll only hit fever pitch if Frawley nets us pick 3.
  20. Depends entirely on who Roos could recruit with pick 6 and pick 21. That's one very good pick and one good pick. If they were interested in coming, I could see that getting us Mitchell for 6 and another Bernie Vince type for 21. Certainly better than going to the draft and getting one player only with 2.
  21. Well there have been whispers from others this was the case. That he saw the improvement halfway through the year and said he'd like to stay. He was offered a lowball contract with the hope he'd choose greener pastures. Interesting if true. They did say his end of season review got quite heated.
  22. Thankfully he's completely objective though!
  23. Interesting: "That is a second-round pick and means it will be harder for them to use it in a package along with pick 5 to get Melbourne’s pick 2 to snare key talls Patrick McCartin or Peter Wright." http://www.heraldsun.com.au/sport/afl/melbourne-is-confident-it-will-receive-pick-three-as-james-frawley-departs-for-hawthorn/story-fn69a32t-1227079537457 So the clubs were already discussing my idea above (trading pick 2 for Bulldogs 5/6 and their Higgins compo, now band 3 instead of band 2 as they'd hoped). So they got ~27 instead of ~21. Can see why that's put the deal on ice.
