  1. Where our list is ATM we should be focussing our pick on selecting the best available young player. I have not seen evidence of any player good enough and available and that we want that we would pitch that trade pick. If anything we should be seeing what we can achieve through smart trading from our list to seek a further pick in the Top 10. Pick 21 should be considered for a trade or addressing specific needs within the draft
  2. I'll also bet London to a brick that we will not trade pick 4.
  3. Thats one of the issues 28 yo, last 2 years been injured..... tick tock tick tock FWIW & IMO I would pay up for Judd given his condition. 11 against Carlton and 7 goals against a 2nd game Collingwood player in a defence that was missing Clement, Presti, Wakelin and lost O'Brien in the 1st quarter. That 18 goals in downhill skiing country = easy games. There were about 22 goals in 15 games. His goal haul on the face of it overvalues the manner of his contribution.
  4. Your issue is with the media not with the Club. Recognise the Club for its achievements off its low base. You are sounding like the media charlatans you heep with criticism.
  5. No Terry Leahy won it in 1965 (0r 1966) in his first year. I think he was younger than Nathan Jones.
  6. Agree with Brocky and Nasher on this. Robbo efforts this year were on the back of two hauls against Carlton and a bag of 7 against Collingwood where their backline was diminished. Otherwise he has been ordinary, injury prone and increasingly playing for himself.
  7. Wheels has had a history of injuries and at 28 its getting worse. In the past 2 years he has diminished as a footballer and may struggle to be in our best 22 and achieve the heights he did previously.
  8. Great Article and summary. Given the how poor the performance has been this year it is reasonable for significant changes need to be made as follows: 1. There will be natural attrition through players retiring at their end of their careers. 2. Depth players who are not breaking into a poorly performing first 22 really need to be cleared off a list. They serve no purpose to the Club's efforts to improve other than embellishing the performance of its associated VFL club. 3. In addition, where a club has performed poorly the so called "stars" on the list must be reviewed as to their future value to the Club vis a vis the ability to extract draft picks or players that suit the list management objectives of the Club. As a consequence, certain "stars" may be deemed tradeable. This process may be a clean out and may take 2 or 3 years to complete. We are definitely in the first year of this process. IMO it would be reasonable for 8 to 12 players to be part of the above this year.
  9. Why? He has shown himself inept and not up to it at 2 clubs (WB and WCE). The WB are crying out to have effective big men and McDougall just has not stepped up.
  10. I thought with the Cocky Collins we got around that by recruiting two dud brothers!
  11. I dont know about the 23- 25 level but up to 20 definitely. At 17 there is definitely room to grow. Russian and PJ could grow and they would still carry the same deficiencies they do...Likewise with Neaves.
  12. They have finished Top 4 this year. They won 14 and 8 after starting the season 0 and 3. Beaten Sydney in Sydney, Freo at Subi and Geelong and the Cattery? How many punters picked that? Most I have seen had them bottom 2 or 3? Its amazing how the suppporters of a marshmallow underperforming Club cast them aside. There is much we could learn from the Kangas. Irrelevant - Most definitely Or were you saying irreverent? Absolutely right Tim. Media aside. What the Kangas have achieved on their shoe string budget especially consdiering the Hay debacle it is worthy of merit. And Glenn Archer is up there with the best. Talk about unnecessary sour grapes.
  13. Jack, Danny Jacobs is filling the spot so well for the Hawks he is in the 2nds. So Ferg has reached that standard. Ferg's courage does not hide the shortcomings Axis of Bob so accurately described. Rivers does alot more than Ferg and better. He is gone
  14. At 26, how much bigger is Ferg going to get and how would that make for his mediocre decision making, disposal and contested marking capacity? I love his courage but that does not go enough distance to cover the other issues. If he cant be traded he will be delisted IMO.
  15. You would find it bizarre as it is based on fact and the history of AFL/VFL/VFA best player medals. Do the research. Unless its a Tony Lockett or Jason Dunstall having a creamer of year, history of the vote awarding by umpires shows that opportunistic, inconsistently performing forwards with little or no second efforts when they dont have the ball, dont get rewarded.
  16. Why do posters get so mislead with tough guys and enforcers when clearly the tried and true way to intimidate the opposition is to consistently win the ball and to use it to best advantage and to be hard at the contested ball (and not the man)? None of those retiring or delisted were doing that. Dr Drake has covered the assessment of the players well.
  17. Not when votes are given out. It must be embarrassing when you demonstrate that you dont read the thread before making a silly retort like that.
  18. I am glad the Club can come to sensible decisions when other clearly arent able to. I would be clearing them out within 2 years. I guess you would keep them and treasure them then wonder why the hell we dont win games. But on more important issues, thanks to Godfrey and Ward for their endeavour and effort over their careers. Unfortunately they were not good enough at this level.
  19. Absolutely correct. I am surprised why posters want to hold retain ordinary footballers.
  20. I meant old fashioned in that he does not chase and has no defensive skills to his game and is not really much of a team player.
  21. Would the question have been "What would be your plan to maximise the output and/or Club benefit from Travis Johnstone?"?
  22. Sautner is your old fashioned receiver. Not high powered vote drawing there.
