Easy. ANB. JVR needs to come in. We need another tall option who will compete.
-
Are you deaf? His work rate was immense. At one stage he was in the Pies goal square. The problem is that when he pushes up to the wing, Max is the only tall who provides a presence up forward.
-
BBB was enormous last night. If people are expecting him to do all the donkey work in the air as our lone KPF, and provide defensive pressure, they are kidding themselves. Our mid/small forwards are letting us down. And if the Unicorn is agile enough to play as a mid as some say, then he's capable enough of applying forward pressure.
-
They had prior and hesitated. Clear free kicks. Stop watching games with red and blue glasses on.
-
I almost thought that was the turning point. It was a poor decision by Gus to handball. He just needed to take the tackle, and it would have been a ball-up as he didn't have prior.
-
You can't blame the players when this is an obvious team direction. And when someone like Brown clunks a mark, they're on a tight angle. How about occasionally kicking the ball laterally with a 30m pass, which opens up by sides of the ground. We've forgotten that the Harmes fat side kick to Fritsch in the G/F turned the tide.

The umpires weren't the reason we lost. The free kicks that Elliott got were there. The umpires had a good game barring 1 or 2 errors.

This. We are so predictable that it becomes infuriating. We don't take advantage of our clearance dominance.
-
Quantify ANB's 22 pressure acts and subtract the number of times he fumbled or got caught with the ball. ANB fails the eye test. He's been a liability up forward for a while. Needs time at Casey.
-
I got ridiculed for calling for ANB to be dropped this week. His defensive efforts fall short for what a liability he is in attack. How many times did he get caught with the ball or fumbled? Enough is enough. We need to take advantage when we have midfield dominance. Out: ANB, Rivers In: JVR, Bowey Hibbo was putrid tonight, but has been good most of the year.

In Season - Loading/Periodisation: Put your conjecture here.
mo64 replied to Engorged Onion's topic in Melbourne Demons
Just concede that the loading impact on results is miniscule. Total BS to say that it's a contributing factor to results. Every club contending for finals is loading to a certain extent, so any impact is neutralized. Some people think they are smarter than they actually are. Let's stop this nonsense. -
Why would Gold Coast want Harmes, ANB or be interested in Tom Mitchell. And if I'm GC, there's no way I'm trading Ben King for Jackson. King has committed to the club. He's worth Jackson plus a 1st round pick.
-
At least the Buddy move will keep Jackson out of the spotlight for some time.
-
Actually, just found out he's a restricted free agent, so nothing unless Sydney match.
-
What's Hipwood's contractual status? Plus how does Brisbane satisfy the Swans with all their draft picks being utilised for father/sons Ashcroft and Fletcher?
-
JVR named as an emergency ahead of Weid. Have the match committee ruled a line through Weid's name?
-
Thought Goody was a bit coy about Harmes. He's the likely sub.
-
Watts was traded after 2017, a year in which he was dropped from the team. We made the prelim the following year and won a flag 4 years after he was traded. There is no way you could say we would be better off with a 24yo Jack Watts, and that he'd be best 22. Watts was more skilled than Weid and statistically achieved more, but both suffer from the same trait of lacking competitiveness. Watts was traded for this reason.

For a season and a half, ANB has been able to fulfil his defensive role, but also be an important linkman and kick important goals. In his first 12 games this season, he got 20 or more possessions 5 times. Since the bye, he's yet to get 20 possessions in 6 games, and is averaging 13 possessions per game. He's averaging 0.3 of a goal per game this year compared to 0.6 last year. ANB is important to the side, but he's not in good form.
-
Hopefully Clarko takes the Giants job. Can't see Roos taking another rookie coach.
-
That was my take also, but it's allowed the opposition to get a sniff, and we haven't been able to change the momentum shift.
-
A couple of takes from Goody's presser. He mentioned that we've given up 4 goal leads in 7 games. And that we had to be more ruthless. That's a change from his post game presser against the Suns, when he said that we didn't need to score. Also mentioned that BBB is a goalkicker. Whilst our game is built around defense, I hope that the coaching dept have changed their thinking to a small degree, and realised that we need more avenues to goal. Melksham has added something to our forward line, and I hope he doesn't get dropped.
-
That's all well and good, but if you are fumbling, not winning the ball, and not a forward threat, then the coaching dept will make a call as to whether his defensive work outweighs his lack of offense. I like ANB, but wouldn't mind if he spent a couple of weeks at Casey to get his mojo back.
-
No way Sparrow gets dropped ahead of ANB. Harmes may well be the sub. Lions got caught out last week by having a tall as a sub.
-
That was my take. He was definitive about BBB playing, but said that Harmes is ready to go. I took that to mean that Harmes was available, rather than being in the team. But there's no VFL game for Casey. If Harmes comes in, I think it will be for ANB.
