  1. Have a look at these two logos. Note one is very clear bold and doesn't use gradient or shading. A perfect logo that can easily be printed or embroided on apparel. The other is a nightmare to reproduce
  2. Interesting you mention the Melbourne city council, coz that's the logo that Melbourne city use. Clever
  3. Just to be clear, I am not talking about the kids'z I think the afl do stuff for kids very well. I'm talking about the 18+ bracket. Although the trumpeter was a [censored] and a [censored], it was a point of difference. Lose the velvet jacket and get him a drummer and a backing band and its not a bad gimmick. Although we could prob find better.
  4. Firstly the logo is purple not red, have a look at the logo and then look at the jumper colour. Completely different. Leaving that aside, the logo is fine when it is big, like on a letter head. As soon as it needs to be reduced it is hard to make out and looks terrible. The reason that the club has gone with the MFC monogram on most apparel this year, take a look. That's a good thing but prob need to put it inside and emblem with the worlds Melbourne Football Club. A round shield like Chelsea FC would work. That aside I think we can do more. It starts with the crowds and I agree, if you aren't winning its hard to enthuse people. The placement of the members at the MCG is also problematic in that some sit on the MCC side of the ground while others are in the southern stand (where I often. See opposition supporters occupying members seats??). Anyway, I remember talking to Jimmy one day and he was telling me how much he wanted the members to be all together (incl MCC) and for us to occupy the Northern Stand. Given the fact the afl shaft us with all our home games against lowly crowd drawing interstate sides, it'd be nice to have one side of the stadium feel full and loud. Kudos to the club for getting things happening at the Duke. Haven't been yet, but that's the type of thing that enhances match day experiences.
  5. I am not sure if this has been covered elsewhere, but since Gil took over AFLland there has been a lot said about improving the aforementioned acros all AFL clubs. I thought it was a bit of an unnecessary focus until tonight. Tonight I attended my first ALeague game at AAMI park and it was arguable as enjoyable, if not more enjoyable than 70% of Melbourne games I attended last year. Maybe it was the passionate singing that carried on for 90 minutes, maybe it was the free 'clappers' that were handed out to the crowd before the game. Maybe it was the enthusiasm of the crowd who were supporting a 'City'. Whatever it was, I left wondering why I felt more enthused and excited than I had at many AFL games last season. I am not one that sees soccer as a threat as such to AFL, but I do think the AFL have to improve their match day experience as do the MFC. It's not enough to have Robbo get on the mic twenty minutes before the bounce and get a few kids to take speccys. That really is amatuer stuff. If you want to see a match day experience on steroids watch tomorrows Super Bowl. I am not suggesting we need to commercialise things up to the extent the NFL does, but I do think its a huge area the club needs to focus on. The second part of my post match thoughts tonight lead me to ponder whether the MFC and its brand will suffer if the Melbourne City FC gather the momentum I expect they will. The 'CIty' tag is what the MFC yearn for. Geographical identity. We are trying to push into the city in a attempt to create a geographical identity, and yet there is a new team (albeit another code) already branded as the team of the city. In another forum in 2013 I was cut down when I suggested we should rebrand as the Melbourne City Demons ala the roosters in the NRL. I still believe the idea had merit. The MFC need to establish stronger brand identity. Start with thy rediculous logo. Get rid of it ASAP. Get some signage in the CBD. Move the Demon Shop to the city so people can actually access it. Anyway, I will stop ranting but with all these new 'football' teams pushing for the Melbourne brand (Rebels, Victory, City and Storm) we need to make our brand bigger and better than al of these. We should be the most well known Melbourne football team. I daresy we are to people from Melboune only. Interested in the thoughts of others on what we could do for match day enhancement and also how can we improve our brand??
  6. Correct me if I am wrong, but didn't he start having calf trouble on his attempted return at Melbourne? I know it was a soft tissue issue, I remember hamstring trouble as well, but this has a familiarity to it. Only this time I am very happy with the news. EAD you faker and fraudulent poser.
  7. The bloke really pisses me off. Having to hear him pedalling the I am Geelong line and see him pumping up the cats on social media is such a slap in the face to Melbourne supporters. Different if he had of gone quietly and been humble but he is carrying on like an excited first year player and blowing smoke up the arse of the Geelong Footy Club, just as it did when he first came to the MFC! The bloke is a fraud. He has severe personality disorder. Rumoured to have nailed a past MFC players girlfriend while engaged too. Love to know more to that story. The very fact he hides behind the veil of depression makes me sick. I saw photos of him smashing booze with the MFC players supposedly during the height of his depression. He lied to Brisbane and then did the same to us. No well wishes from me. I admire people giving it to him on social media. The weak dog never answers any questions. Just replies with "like you'd know" "coz you understand my situation" blah blah. Just a big load of B.S.
  8. Played a fair bit of Ammos at Wick park and the facilities are shithouse. Would need a load of work. I also train and play at Toorak Park which has far better facilities and in my view would make a much better training base than Elsternwick. Toorak Park is next to a train line and a tram line and is smack bang in the middle of demon heartland. Anyway, Toorak Park is not an option and I would bother with Elsternwick either.
  9. from the highlights of his debut you'd draft him on his tackling and aggression at the footy alone. Love that he wraps the arms up and doesn't look to sling but watches the footy spill loose and goes again and knocks it to advantage. That is far more valuable than slinging a bloke and putting yourself out of the contest at the same time.
  10. Was it, have a look at the last post on The Diet thread. Bout three hours before you started this thread
  11. Good to see you coming up with your own gags buddy!
  12. i love that the two seem to be good mates already. i reckon that is important. Scully and Trenners never had that mateship.
  13. would you take Neita over Brad Miller?
  14. I did see Simon Godfrey and Febey at Melbourne games recently - I was only mnaking the observation as it seems we have a lot of players from the Daniher era that are involved in other clubs
  15. hahaha, Gary Lyon there's a good one..i didn't say anything about the coaching staff being MFC ppl. It was a general comment. Remember that Dunstall and Brereton remained heavily involved in Hawks recently. Yes, we had Healey and Leoncelli, but the latter half of the Daniher era got shafted and a lot remain disinterested in the footy club. McDonald, Yze, Green, Bruce all spring to mind.
  16. it'd be nice if all our past players considered themselves 'Melbourne People' but sadly this is far from the case. We seem to have burnt an entire generation of Melbourne players and now see very few having much to do with the club or showing real support. The ones that come to mind that are involved are Robbo, Miller, Viney and The Ox. The rest just seem to have lost touch with the club. I find it very sad that players seemeingly don't feel a connection with our club. Hard to build a culture if there arn't past players around to teach it. I know there are some that will say that the previous culture was all bad and we have to start from scratch and that's fine. I still think it is important.
  17. Those in the media and here on DL that beg for the return of Howe to the forward line really need to look back at his kicking at goal. He is not a reliable set shot and too often does not finish his good marking work with scores. I believe that is why he was first moved to the backline. Really needs to work on his kicking to become an elite player. Its all well and good to have the flair but you have to master the basics too.
  18. This is one of the stupidest replies I have ever read on this forum? What is relevant to what I have said, how does your conclusion that I know nothing about what it takes to be drafted and remain on a list have anything to do with the point I made about continuing to support these blokes who break their contracts relate? In a normal job if an employee breaches contract and quits, does the business continue to provide financial support and emotional support? I hardly think so. The result of what we have done is that we have had [censored] thrown in our faces, first Jurrah and most recently Clark. We give them all this 'support' and get nothing back. Cut losses and move on. simple
  19. I will be honest and expect to cop some flack for my view, but I am sick of the MFC saying they will continue to support these players that walk out on the club. Jurrah, Clark and now Barry. I know it is probably all about being socially responsible and player welfare but I am getting sick of it. This generation of players are a bunch of fragile pea hearts who have no loyalty and are all looking for the easy ride to success. End Rant
  20. Has he nominated Geelong or Hawthorn as his 'club of choice' yet. I agree with all who say the draft age needs to be raised. It is too young and not only do kids not know what they want out of life but clubs can't reasoanbly predict if a player will make it at AFL level. Bodies havent developed, its a huge step from schoolboy/TAC level footy...i would make it a 21 year old draft age and create a legitimate u21 state league.
  21. Besides the 'Port Looking' strip (may also be referred to as the Sydney Roosters' design) this woul be my preference. If the shorts need to be white, so be it.....
  22. hahahhaa...I thought I would throw it in there
