it has become obvious to me watching some of the games over the bye that our list is a long way off the mark. We have some good players but realistically only 1or 2would make it into the top 10 of any other side. Our good honest triers like McKenzie, Terlich, Matt Jones, Bail and may I suggest Grimes would not get a game anywhere else. It's 2 - 3 drafts away and we can't afford any misses.

Heard Brendan Bolton on Grandstand. Very impressive communicator and very good footy knowledge. Has 6 years in the Hawks system and coached Nth Hobart prior to that. Hope he is on the radar along with Luke Beveridge and Ratten. Hawthorns way of going about innovation and development sound like just what we need.

See Jack Hannath has re-signed with Freo. Had hoped he would make his way back to us. Liked his attitude and I'm sure will develop into a good player.

Very much in favour of second chances. Previous failures can be a great learning experience and light a fire in the belly. Think someone like Ratten could be a great get especially after being part of the Hawk system.

Don't think Roos has a massive ego at all. Humility is more his style. I think he likes being part of a footy club and developing young players on and off the field. He said that he would be happy to get the club back on track and leave someone else to finish the job and take the glory. If you want ego look at Mick Malthouse.

Hard not to get excited. The recruiters are really going for it and targeting exactly the types we need. Two gun young forwards in Hogan and Cameron, a midfield with Tyson, Viney and Shiel and a Sandilands like ruck in Gawn. Also having Salem, Toumpas, Riley, Mitchie and JKH in the wings with plenty of upside. The backline is stable and well performed and we are assembling one of the best coaching panels in the comp. Credit to all concerned.

Think we should buy Tammi a hula hoop, a grass skirt and a coconut bra, Roosy a Hawaiin shirt and plant a whole lot of palms in his back yard to make him feel and home and then make him extend his contract.

He'll have to earn his spot like anyone else. A bit of competition may prompt a rapid improvement in his skills.

Bomber I think understands how to turn defence into attack better than anyone. His Geelong had one of the most effective defences I've ever seen and their midfield was highly accountable. He just might be the right person to aid that transition. You have to admire what he has done with Essendon. The Bombers would be mad to let Hird replace him.
