Jason Taylor - Is he up to it?
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
I dont think he has done either very well this year. I thought he started the season ok but has been a disappointment and will be overtaken next year unless something changes. -
Post Match Discussion - Round 19
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Disagree. Jamar would not have been able to spread with Goldy. We already looked slow across the ground in general and another would have meant even less defensive run through the middle. Our match ups looked fine for 2 quarters, this was about intent in the first quarter and poor defensive positioning not team selection. -

Whilst I wont be happy with losses anymore there was a lot to take out of that. Our football in quarter 2 and 3 is some of the best we have played in years. The comeback was off the backs of kids and not mature leaders. You will go a long time before Jones and Vince are that quiet in the same week. Good to see Tyson hit some form and Viney and Hogan just keep on keeping on. -

He and Bennell should be our targets as they fit the age bracket and player type we need. I could not give two figs about their previous off field if we believe that is in their past. Garlett is a good case in point.

Paul Roos selection's are all about playing your role. Whilst I don't agree with M Jones in our side on the basis of playing your role like for like (in role not quality) it is not surprising. -

POST MATCH DISCUSSION - Round 18
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
The reason we see frustration from supporters including myself like we have seen over recent weeks is because we now see some hope. Other years I went to the footy accepting to lose. Now aside from the top 4 our ability to get in a winning position is dependant on our intensity and our ability to stick to a plan and minimise our errors. Today was another good step in the right direction. Gawn, Viney and Watts have all taken massive steps forward in the last 6 weeks. There will more frustrations week to week but I will not doubt at all that we have improved and more than the ladder will show. -

Disagree. I saw him three times let his man run off him whilst he watched on and didn't even put up a jog. The penny hasn't dropped so he can go back to Casey til it does. -

I watched him closely in the first half. He has the worst defensive game of any player on our list. -

Paul Roos : "At least the players are trying"
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Fitz Fitzpatrick's topic in Melbourne Demons
The tackle count doesn't really reflect a level of trying that I am comfortable with. -
Some serious questions asked about Paul Roos ...
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to dazzledavey36's topic in Melbourne Demons
The game plan doesn't make an ounce of difference if we cannot execute basic skills and decision making and deliver a level of consistent intensity. These however after 18 months are also the responsibility of the coach to create a game day team that can provide these. -
If we have improved we should win and win reasonably well. Last time we played ok against them on a ground we don't play well and lost because of an inept last play. They dont play the G well and Riewoldt is on one leg. I think we have balanced the kids this week with bringing in two mature players who should have some serious desperation to try and stay in the side. As long as we bring the right consistent intent and hold Stevens and Riewoldt we should win and win well.

No way Salem next week. Couple of the young ones looking tired so time to rotate them out. JKH has not made the most of his two weeks in. In: Grimes, Michie Out: JKH, ANB

POST MATCH DISCUSSION - Round 16
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
A lot on here thought we would lose. We put them to the sword in the first as we got the ball and moved it forward with efficiency. They then played better and we played circuit work and lairised when we had opportunity. Hogan and Gawn the difference. Good confidence builder for Howe and Dawes. Stretch and Harmes took another step in their development. Defensively I thought it was the best we had spread and held position for 4 quarters. Offensively we were horrid in the second half. Another 4 points. Now 5 wins. I'll take it. -

Post Match Discussion - Round 15
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Not surprised, it was typical Melbourne. Just expected to win and played selfish, dumb and lazy football. Our forward structure in the first half was appalling. StKilda beat them by running the ball and pressuring the ball carrier. What do we do we play stationary football and kick it long to a cluster of players. We then refuse to man up their sweeper and show no forward pressure at all. By the time we actually played with run and aggression we couldn't actually kick straight. We got close to nothing from our bottom 6. Roos is a great figurehead and can set the right cultural basics but I am close to concluding that he cannot actually coach. Just when you think we are out the other side they find a way to pull you back into the darkness. -

And we have 6 players who had not played an AFL game before this year.
