POST MATCH DISCUSSION - Round 10
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Aside from the occasional goal Newton has been extremely underwhelming. Does not get enough ball, does not defend or man up and spends a lot of time jogging between contests. I would want him to have an extended stay at Casey with some serious form before he comes back in rather than continually in and out. -
POST MATCH DISCUSSION - Round 10

Fitzy's scoop says hi. -
I was at the game. He made two poor errors, that one although a wrong choice wasn't one of them. He is a 20 game player and I can see him improving week to week. Wont be a superstar but continues to deserve a game and develop.
-
StKilda play two rucks in Hickey and Longer. I suspect that will be Fitzs job.
-
That was a shocking decision. He seems prone to 1 or 2 shockers per game particularly early but generally his decision making and execution are good. I guess I still see a 20 game player who is finding his feet and improving. He wont be a superstar but I think he will be continue to improve and be a quality player.

Anyone that singles out Toumpas today really does need to question their bias. Wasn't our best, far from our worst. Starting to get his hands on it and getting the right contested/uncontested balance and unlike most of our other mids runs to space. Made a couple of errors but not on his own there. Newton, Riley and M Jones clearly more likely to go out based on output and impact. I would make three but would not be surprised just Vandenberg for Tyson. Out Vandenberg, M Jones, Newton In Tyson, ANB, Grimes

POST MATCH DISCUSSION - Round 10

Effort and intent were great. Our decision making and execution out of the back 50 was awful. There was nothing wrong with leaving Oxley free until it was obvious we were going to continually kick it to him. After the third one it was poor coaching by Roos and co not to do something about. How good was it to see an attacking ruckman at the centre bounce who had more than one trick in his bag. The spots yours to lose Max. Not happy to lose but give me that level of effort each week and I will accept losing to better quality sides and beating those around us. -

Sounds like Petracca. We need a balanced midfielder who can carry the ball, has toe and creates. -
MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 10

I can understand Watts ahead of Grimes. Howe will play Grimes role which is the frustration for me. Matt Jones does offer pace, a defensive role and some flexibility but that is all. -

I expect M Jones will be the sub. Grimes not getting a game ahead of Howe for me is sending the wrong message completely. -

Good that players will know if they don't perform this week that Tyson, ANB and Michie are waiting to take their spot. -

MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 10
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
I suspect that Michie, Spencer and Jones will be the emergencies with Grimes the sub. Good that Tyson is having to prove fitness before he returns as he has lacked impact all year even when he has racked up some numbers. I thought Spencer was worth persevering with for his follow up work at the contest but he doesn't really provide taps to advantage or an around the ground presence. Gawn is capable if his endurance and ethic have improved and he uses his true height and doesn't attack contests bent over as he has previously shown. I like that we appear to have named a side with more true mids and better positional flexibility. -
Out: Bail, Howe In: Tyson, Riley Fitzy should play against a team that rests a ruck forward.

Post Match Discussion - Round 9
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
The first quarter and a bit we showed when we play the game on our terms, run hard both ways and stick tackles what can happen. From there 3-4 errors we caused handed them goals and confidence and they started to push back. Our lack of leadership and maturity meant no one took control and we went back into selfish and lazy football. For the heat and particularly bringing in two quality players underdone we needed to play two extra mids. We should have pulled Fitz from the side as soon as Ryder was not playing. We are getting better but because we now see our good and our bad week to week and even more so quarter to quarter it is truly more frustrating as a supporter. Watts was poor as were others but why he is the specific focus of comments by most and not Howe is beyond me. -

This is fantastic news. It is things like this that build great culture at clubs. A calculated low risk by us and great faith shown by Jack.

Johannisen had 11 touches against us. After 25,24,20 the 3 previous weeks. He clearly did his job. -
MATCH PREVIEW AND TEAM SELECTION - Round 9
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to Demonland's topic in Melbourne Demons
Two excellent ins. Surprised Bail retains his spot ahead of Riley who could not have done much more when he subbed on but he kept Johannisen to 11 after 25,24,20 the 3 previous weeks. Jones job was good on Murphy and expect the same on Pittard. Aside from the occasional midfield goal I have found Newton somewhat underwhelming so far. Its great to talk about with changes it strengthening the side rather than switching deck chairs on the titanic. -
Jones job on Murphy was exceptional. Bail was not bad on Johansen but someone's got to go.
-
We have a cracking win and some people want 4 changes. Roos doesn't like major changes even when we lose. Viney and Jetta if fit are definite starters. No way Tyson is right with just a weeks rest and his form wasn't great prior. When you have form players and you win you can afford to get him right. Same goes for Dawes and either way Pederson has shown more in the last two weeks than Dawes when fit recently. If Matt Jones is fit should play and play defensive role on Pittard. Different type of player I know but Riley showed more to me than Newton who again I thought was only ok when in possession so Newton out if Matt Jones is fit. In Viney, Jetta Out: Newton, Bail

He could have dished off and the siren gone if he did not know how many seconds left. He made the right decision just didn't execute it. -
Play Jeremy Howe as a forward
Lil_red_fire_engine replied to spirit of norm smith's topic in Melbourne Demons
Howe's output and input yesterday were improved but I would still put him in the bottom quartile for impact and effort. Took some great marks but didn't capitalize on the scoreboard (ridiculous that he kicked side on twice from that angle). Worked harder but not hard enough. Our structure forward did look better with him there though. -
If Matty Jones is fit he has earnt himself the same role on Pittard next week. An extra weeks rest for Tyson wont hurt him in the longer term. Viney and Jetta both auto ins so Newton and Bail need to make way. In: Viney, Jetta Out: Bail, Newton
