This is one player that gets me turning up each week to watch him develop.

Still gets beaten in a lot of contests, but that’s to be expected because of his age and development. Has a great attitude, gives it his all in each contest. Seems to have a pretty decent disposal, and knows how to kick a goal

In a season that has been pretty disappointing all round, its nice to have at least one thing go our way.

Second round of the rookie draft? What a steal!

Agree IWAP. "Aussie" is great to watch. Already my 5 year olds favourite player.

Its always satisfying to get a great catch late in the draft or even in the Rookie draft. Our early picks might not have the best record, but our late picks and rookies seem to go OK.

Agreed. Alastair Clarkson said exactly the same thing a few nights ago on On The Couch. He said there are heaps of little things that DB would be happy about that are not discussed in the Public Sphere. All we as supporters can see is the scoreboard at the end of the day. Clarko said stick with the game plan becasue its the only way forward.

One thing that that has also gone unnoticed about him is that his skill and disposal levels are sublime, i would argue better than probably anyone else in our team at the moment.

Love the kid, his goal was right in front of us which has solidified cult status, but why was his efficiency only 50% from his ten touches? Anyone watching on tv or notice at the ground why this would be so?

45 didn't notice his efficiency levels watching on TV, I thought he was better than that.

His foot passing looks awesome compared to most of the side and hopefully we will see w few more of those kind of players coming from SA and NT with Baileys connections over the next few years!

Dazzle Davey claimed this bloke early, and we can see why. Aussie is going to be great player in coming years for the DEES.

Coming along nicely inst he ;) .. thought he'd go alright. As his confidence and poise better ..he's going to be a real find !!

Not me, I couldn't give a damn about the scoreboard. Iv'e hated the teams we've been putting out on the field over the last 5 - 6 years & have never really been entertained by them nor felt overly optimistic about them. In that time I've got my football fix by admiring the Lions, & Leigh Matthews style of footy.

Now I finally feel that we can build off our youth that we've recruited since 2003 & put some steel into them through the coaching of Bailey, but we need the priority pick & some more hard assed footballers, a mid & a power forward to start with.

PS< Aussie's a beauty, I reckon he'll be better than Davey.

Ouch I claimed this guy too!!! Just check out my signature.

Loved him and was so happy we drafted, just knew he would break into the team somehow and thats why he was one of the first selected for my supercoach team.

Also argued why he was a better choice for promotion than Valenti. We needed a player like Wonaeamirri at that time and it's proved to be a top choice.

Already probably my fav player, just cause I love love love to say his name.

WONAEA-FUCKIN-MIRRI!!!!

Man, I love Aussie

Him and Morton have been two great debutants this year. And will both be stars.

Add in a little Natanui, R.,Warnock, Grimes, Cheney and Maric, and we have a lot to look forward to.

Plenty to look forward too.

As this little beauty suggests, just click through.

quite possibly there D32...quite possibly :)

Seriously? What aspect of Bailey's coaching reminds you of Leigh Matthews?Brisbane have been a 2 kicks to 1 handball side--even higher ratio when they won their flags.
Our new ambition is to have equal numbers of kicks/handballs.That's what's frustrating the heck out of supporters and commentators alike.
I do agree however that Daniher's recruiting post 2003 was good and should give us a base. But who chose Meesen and what do they think now?

i said from the very start he got drafted that he will play senior footy! the guyis a gun and a great bloke too!! aarond davey see's him as his little brother.. aussie is always crashing at his joint during the weeek lol

would still like an answer to my question

Yeah how good is it to see that? Really great that the guys are taking him in as he is so quiet.

I saw something that made me very happy last week, was in the city having some lunch at a cafe and a few boys came and had a coffee and sat right near me. Was great Wonaeamirri, Davey, Robbo and Neita. Made me quite pleased to see big guys like Neitz and Robbo including the young guy.

I think chris connolly said on SEN during the week that his body strength and fitness levels are still a long way off where they should be for an AFL footballer. And you can see it too he is a bit pudgy around the face and through the hips. Once this guy is super fit and with a couple of solid pre-seasons behind him we might really see how good he can be.

An exciting prospect

Some here are very easliy pleased.

That said, I suppose we need something to evoke any semblance of hope.

I am with you H.

I have not seen Aussie do enough for mine to suggest that he is more than a fringe player in a poor side.

Fai dinkum you two....

Whats the point of being a grumpy old man at any given opportunity?

I have not seen enough quality posts from you to justify you being a moderator.

Aussie has made a solid start to his football career. He is young, raw and has a truckload of fighting spirit.

Quality posting has nothing to do with that requirement. And if it were, you would be tailing off at the rear of the site on that measure.

I can name a number of players that have gone through MFC that have been young raw and truckloads of fighting spirit.

They just did not have the ability and skills to make it at the top level. Not that it would be important in your estimations.

  • PREVIEW: North Melbourne

Can you believe it? After a long period of years over which Melbourne has dominated in matches against North Melbourne, the Demons are looking down the barrel at two defeats at the hands of the Kangaroos in the same season. And if that eventuates, it will come hot on the heels of an identical result against the Gold Coast Suns. How have the might fallen? There is a slight difference in that North Melbourne are not yet in the same place as Gold Coast. Like Melbourne, they are currently situated in the lower half of the ladder and though they did achieve a significant upset when the teams met earlier in the season, their subsequent form has been equally unimpressive and inconsistent.

  • REPORT: Adelaide

The atmosphere at the Melbourne Football Club at the beginning of the season was aspirational following an injury-plagued year in 2024. Coach Simon Goodwin had lofty expectations with the return of key players, the anticipated improvement from a maturing group with a few years of experience under their belts, and some exceptional young talent also joining the ranks. All of that went by the wayside as the team failed to click into action early on. It rallied briefly with a new strategy but has fallen again with five more  consecutive defeats.

  • CASEY: Coburg

The Casey Demons returned to their home ground which was once a graveyard for opposing teams but they managed to gift the four points on offer to Coburg with yet another of their trademark displays of inaccuracy in front of goals and some undisciplined football that earned the displeasure of the umpires late in the game. The home team was welcomed by a small crowd at Casey Fields and looked right at home as it dominated the first three quarters and led for all bar the last five minutes of the game. In the end, they came away with nothing, despite winning everywhere but on the scoreboard and the free kick count.

  • PREGAME: Rd 18 vs North Melbourne

After four weeks on the road the Demons make their long awaited return to the MCG next Sunday to play in a classic late season dead rubber against the North Melbourne Kangaroos. Who comes in and who comes out?

  • POSTGAME: Rd 17 vs Adelaide

The Demons were wasteful early before putting the foot down early in the 2nd quarter but they chased tail for the remainder of the match. They could not get their first use of the footy after half time and when they did poor skills, execution and decision making let them down.
