Paul Roos debacle....proves my theory

The only difference between us and the Swans though, is that they actually went out and belted another team by 12 goals the week after. We lost to the Tigers....

and then the Swans lost to the Tigers... so at least we're better than the Swans.

Ha ha, thats funny.

Sod it, he can do what he wants and coach how he wants.

If they fine him for that he should do the old under 10's thing where you play in the backline one half then the forward line the second.

I'd love to see that happen.

AFL launches an investigation - Please explain? for P.Roos

Demons flying under the Radar beautifully at the moment....

This is all the evidence you need to know that our performances so far this pre-season are a stooge, just in case you weren't already aware

See you at the 'G' Round 1

I just can't believe a team wouldn't want to win an NAB cup Game *Insert Sarcasm here*

The rules are fantastic, I really like the new one with the interchange restrictions *Insert more sarcasm*

The new rules won't put stress on injured players at all *pour the whole bucket of sarcasm out*

The poor bastard was just saying what we were all thinking!

If the AFL wanted teams to take this competition seriously, they should never have brought in that rule!

That's right, and the AFL would be setting a dangerous precedence by fining Roosy, cos tanking is fairly widespread and this would open up a can of worms. Whichever way they approach it they are screwed really....

You've got to give them points for their "act" though, as if they don't already know that this stuff goes on...yeah sure

It's actually good for the game when this stuff comes out, because it makes it that little bit harder for them to just sweep it under the carpet - like they are doing with the drug scandals etc.

Good on you AFL, doing a good job *Extreme sarcasm*

I pretty much hate all the rules they trial in the NAB cup at the moment, I really hope they never become a rule for the real season, but i know they will and our game will be poorer for it.

As a coach in junior footy I'm forever telling players not to be the heroes and kick the goals. When I do that I'm trying to teach the players in the midfield not to crowd the attack but to leave it to the guys in the forward line to kick the goals.

What's the official doing eavesdropping on what the coach says anyway. It's Roos' busineess and the Swans as to how he coaches the team. The AFL and the media should bugger off!

Only fools would bet on the outcome of a NAB Cup match, eh Schtack ?

The AFL launch an investigation into the Swans loss in the pre-season cup but turn a blind eye to Carlton's failure to win a game in the second half of the premiership season.

makes a lot of sense that does

Totally agree! The AFL could easily mount a case to show DB is not trying to win the 2008 NAB cup! I would be absolutely filthy if he was!! The focus of MFC is rightly for MFC to play top 4 and have a crack at a premiership during DB's tenure as coach. so over 3 years. 4 preseason games at start of that campaign are all about establishing his groundwork and foundations of his game plan. Every year there are a number of clubs in similar position. Who is now bagging Al Clarkson for sticking to his youht at all costs 2 -3 years ago when Sqwarks were getting belted???

Everyone is missing the point of this investigation. Whilst the AFL continues to receive money from betting agencies to allow betting on AFL football, it has a duty to ensure that the results are not compromised.

The betting markets are framed according to the relative strength of the selected teams. There is a difference between not selecting your best team (tanking), and outwardly throwing a game which is in the balance, which is what Roos is alleged to have done.

Having said that, the AFL loses it's integrity by allowing late changes to teams. The gaming commission should throw the book at the AFL for allowing this to happen.

The real point is Demetriou obviously cant think when it requires more than two cells to operate simultaneously !! If AD goes ahead with this ridiculous crusade it will fire back at him 100 fold. If I were Roos Id line his Brief up to ask what exactlty do the league think they are playing at when they obvious didnt do anything about Carlton..yet home in on a non consequential game.

This all about Demetriou and Roos not being buddies !!

This is a joke.

AFL wants the preseason cup to be a serious competition but can anyone tell me what competition in the world has its officials come out and say " it's a great place to experiment new rules"

What sort of serious competition experiments with new rules?

It's a preseason. Everyone knows what's going on.

U right B59, i think it's personal.

Caroline Wilson is spot on in her article.

I cannot see why the AFL are so intent are on taking the Swans to task for an alleged issue in a meaningless competition when it did nothing when Carlton clearly tanked last year and were rewarded to get access to the best young player in Australia.

Betting markets are framed not only on the relative strength of the selected teams but also the belief and the confidence that both teams go out to try and win. There is no difference between tanking and throwing a game in the balance as the outcome is the same. Both acts undermine the integrity of the contest for all stakeholders. More so than last minute changes to a side.

further to this hysterical over-reaction by the AwFuL... dare I say it but this "filthy' person pretty well nails it.

Demetriou...you're a Clown !! Time you stopped treating the AFL as your personal plaything and worked for the 'clubs" not your own ego.

Paul Roos has just been cleared according to Ninemsn.

Didn't Roosy publicly criticise carltank for the kreuzer priority pick they laid down for?

Demetriwho I think is getting back @ Roosy for this as the AFL were conspicuously quiet to carltank, seemingly accepting their attitude to the game & the rules.

All is fair apparently as long as you keep the turnstiles clicking.

Even criminals are above sanctioning.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

From the start, Melbourne’s performance against the Gold Coast Suns at Peoples First Stadium was nothing short of a massive botch up and it came down in the first instance to poor preparation. Rather than adequately preparing the team for battle against an opponent potentially on the skids after suffering three consecutive losses, the Demons looking anything but sharp and ready to play in the opening minutes of the game. By way of contrast, the Suns demonstrated a clear sense of purpose and will to win. From the very first bounce of the ball they were back to where they left off earlier in the season in Round Three when the teams met at the MCG. They ran rings around the Demons and finished the game off with a dominant six goal final term. This time, they produced another dominant quarter to start the game, restricting Melbourne to a solitary point to lead by six goals at the first break, by which time, the game was all but over.

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

Coming off four consecutive victories and with a team filled with 17 AFL listed players, the Casey Demons took to their early morning encounter with the lowly Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium with the swagger of a team that thought a win was inevitable. They were smashing it for the first twenty minutes of the game after Tom Fullarton booted the first two goals but they then descended into an abyss of frustrating poor form and lackadaisical effort that saw the swagger and the early arrogance disappear by quarter time when their lead was overtaken by a more intense and committed opponent. The Suns continued to apply the pressure in the second quarter and got out to a three goal lead in mid term before the Demons fought back. A late goal to the home side before the half time bell saw them ten points up at the break and another surge in the third quarter saw them comfortably up with a 23 point lead at the final break.

  • POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs Gold Coast

The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.
