Just listened to SEN. They said that Judd met with Melbourne at the MCG for two and a half hours today. Harris, Gardner, Bailey, Lyon, Stynes, Bohdan (don't ask me to spell his last name) were all present (there may have been others as well, but can't remember). Harris thinks it went well and said that a whole host of topics were discussed, including: playing group, history, facilities, plan for the future.

Didn't really say much, but it sounded to me like we placed a lot of emphasis on having a great history. Having Stynes and Lyon both there (who were his 2 favourite players when he was a kid) was obviously an attempt to rekindle that old feeling of love for the Dees.

I heard that as well. Harris mentioned our 150th birthday a couple of times as well so I think that may have been a bit of a focus. One of the SEN broadcasters also said that from all reports Judd's groin isn't as bad as thought and it might just be a 4 week injury.

I'm not talking about trade-wise, but what effect will his $$$ amount have on the rest on the playing list. i don't want to see the MFC all of a sudden have salary cap problems, just to fit Judd into our team.

if WC have been able to pay judd, cousins, cox, embly, kerr, braun, et al without going over the salary cap, there is no reason why we cant fit judd into with our current list...

just brisy and sysndey for 'the cost of living'. imo that should be evened out across the board, adelaide costs less, so they get less.

and fwiw i think they should have the same cap as everyone else, but all players are payed an additional 5% to cover cost of living.

the only people who are seeing any of that extra 5% are the stars. and it gives them money to lure players with. it should be normal cap, and everyone gets a slight increase to cover the cost. that it isnt proves the afl is just trying to cheat the way for sydney...

We have just delisted 5 players plus 3 retired....at the moment, we dont have any problems- cos if we trade pick 4 and a nother pick alon the way..theres two draft picks out of 5 i think we have gone

I mean I understand where that perception can come from, but the sentimental factor is there. We all know it is there.

And it is the one thing that Melbourne has that the other more powerful and wealthier clubs don't. It is up to Judd if it means anything today.

And while it shouldn't be exploited, there is no harm in putting two former club champions out there to help with the pitch.

And Lyon did just help us pick our new coach, a fairly influential decision and would constitute a fairly hefty involvement.

Lyon and Stynes could be a factor, these are 2 guys he looked up to as a kid, those 2 telling him that even though we had nothing in terms of money and facilities they both still got by and developed a love for the club and that its a great place without the lexus centre, but will be a better place when we get the new training ground and facilities.

What I liked about our presentation was that Big Jum was there. I had an inkling they might play that card. It's a pretty big card too, if you ask me. Not only was Stynes someone that Judd idolised (as far as we know) as a boy, but he is also a quality individual whom Judd might actually relate to on a personal level. It may have been a gimmick, but at least it was better than Carlton's; Wine and Dine at Dick Pratt's house. Yawn. Wake up Carlton.

I also liked that it was held at the MCG. I found myself wondering, since Carlton had showed him around that tip out at Optus Oval, where would be the best place for us to hold our presentation. After all, showing him our one dumbell and where we cut the oranges (kudos to Jacey I think; loved that one) down at the Junction oval would have been less than inspiring. I came to the conclusion that the G, in a room with large action shots of our greatest players, with Barassi at the head of the room, would be ideal.

The rest of the people attending each had their own roles to play. Bohdan was a bit of a mental lapse, but the rest of the people there are a very sharp, reliable sort of arrangement.

Thats my take anyway. I think we're already home personally. I refuse to believe Judd would bother with us unless he was seriously (SERIOUSLY) considering coming here. If he's trying to get his price up, he's already got 2 of the richest clubs in the comp involved. If Chris Judd wants to be somebody who, when he retires, has left his mark on the game, and genuinely affected the direction it took, he'll come to Melbourne. If he doesn't, he'll go down to Collingwood and play out his career, a hero to many, but a true, bona-fide legend to no one. In choosing to go to Collingwood, he will in fact prove that he was not the Champion that MFC has been crying out for.

If we do not get him, it will be disappointing. But we'll all move on. We'll shake our heads as he runs out in a filth jumper and wonder why we were so deluded in thinking that maybe he was not just another meathead superstar, who couldn't see past his own remuneration to appreciate the LEGACY he may have borne at Melbourne. We'll take our No. 4 draft pick and we'll get excited about him. We'll eagerly anticipate seeing what Dean Bailey does with this outfit. We'll watch our excellent crop of 2nd and 3rd year (in 08) players develop further and we will see promise. We had a BOLLOCKS 2007. But we are primed for a ripping 2008 and beyond. I'm going to be there, with or without Chris Judd. If other people want to drown in their own tears that's their business. Frankly, we've been doing it for too damn long already.

I agree with everything you said Diablo, except where you said that Judd is ours. He is far from ours in my opinion.

I hope that at the very least our meeting today has ruled Carlton out in his mind, given that we probably have as much, if not more, to offer him.

The thing that really works in our favour is that we have what West Coast want, Collingwood don't and they are a nightmare to trade with. If Judd says he's happy to go to either club, he'll come to Melbourne, as West Coast will not deal with the Pies voluntarily.

Despite some of the crap coming out of the Essendon and Carlton camps, it is my belief that Judd is more focused on Collingwood, with Melbourne being the back-up. Hopefully Collingwood's trade history helps secure our position.

If we do not get him, it will be disappointing. But we'll all move on. I'm finding the Chris Judd saga like the Olympic bidding process. Plenty of shmoozing by the prospective host clubs, and brown paper bags left under the table.
