does anyone think it would be worth picking Valenti up as a low draft pick or rookie pick?

i have seen him play abotu 5 or 6 times... he is regularly named in the top 2 or 3 players for sandy and we were minor premiers...he is nuggety, a ball magnet with quite good disposal.

however he is pretty slow and not that agile and doesnt have any one outstanding quality that you ussually need to make the step up to afl level (like great speed or skill or agility or making prowess).

on the other hand, this description is very similar to Sam Mitchell who despite not having any particular physical characteristics that jump out at you, he is just a bloody good footballer.

could Valenti do a Mitchell or is he just a good vfl player? He is only 20

He didn't deserve votes.

Even in the Leader/Collex award which is just for Sandringham players he only polled 2 votes. Interesting to note though that Summers beat Valenti in that award.

Obvious reason valenti chases and works very hard. Summers doesn't chase or do team things just want the ball for himself and turns the ball over.

Totally disagree, haven't you seen him play??? 90% of the time he hits his target on the chest and he's also a team player by passing the ball whenever he has the opportunity. He works his butt off to play his best and that is the reason why he wins so much of the ball.

Not when votes are given out.

It must be embarrassing when you demonstrate that you dont read the thread before making a silly retort like that.

really embarrasing....

i find ur views on football quite bizzare... players all have different roles in a game... one may be easier than the other.. a forwards job is to mark and kick a goal , do they not deserve votes if they dont possess "defensive skills" which u would suggest they lack anyway hence being a forward.

You would find it bizarre as it is based on fact and the history of AFL/VFL/VFA best player medals. Do the research. Unless its a Tony Lockett or Jason Dunstall having a creamer of year, history of the vote awarding by umpires shows that opportunistic, inconsistently performing forwards with little or no second efforts when they dont have the ball, dont get rewarded.

    GAMEDAY: Rd 13 vs Collingwood

It's Game Day and the Demons are once again faced with a classic 8 point game against a traditional rival on King's Birthday at the MCG. A famous victory will see them reclaim a place in the Top 8 whereas a loss will be another blow for their finals credentials.

    BOILED LOLLIES by The Oracle

In the space of a month Melbourne has gone from chocolates to boiled lollies in terms of its standing as a candidate for the AFL premiership.  The club faces its moment of truth against a badly bruised up Collingwood at the MCG. A win will give it some respite but even then, it won’t be regarded particularly well being against an opponent carrying the burden of an injured playing list. A loss would be a disaster. The Demons have gone from a six/two win/loss ratio and a strong percentag

CLEAN HANDS by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons headed into town and up Sydney Road to take on the lowly Coburg Lions who have been perennial VFL easy beats and sitting on one win for the season. Last year, Casey beat them in a practice match when resting their AFL listed players. That’s how bad they were. Nobody respected them on Saturday and clearly not the Demons who came to the game with 22 players (ten MFC), but whether they came out to play is another matter because for the most part, their intensity was lacking an

    ALAS SPRINGS by Whispering Jack

I got the word on Saturday from someone who knows someone inside the Fremantle camp that the Dockers were pumped and supremely confident about getting the W the next day against Melbourne at TIO Traeger Park in the red heart of the country. I was informed that the Dockers were extremely confident for a number of reasons. They had beaten the Demons on their home territory at the MCG at their last two meetings so they didn’t see beating them at Alice Springs as a problem. They belie
