It was in the VFL record on the weekend and has been mentioned several times already here on demonland, check the other Sandringham related threads. Off the top of my head:

Bizzell, Bode, Buckley, Dunne, Ferguson, Garland, Jamar, Newton, Pickett,

And probably a few others as well…

Sandringham is an AFL aligned club that can play a maximum of 12 AFL listed players (including rookies) in any finals game.

In week one of the finals the 12 can come from any MFC listed player because the Demons are engaged in a game on that weekend. Because of Melbourne's long injury list, it is unlikley that the Zebras are going to be able to field a strong contingent of Melbourne players against Williamstown on Saturday. I believe that the Zebras' David Gallagher is having some scans done today to determine the extent of the knee injury he suffered last Sunday week. Chris Lamb suffered a hamstring strain on Saturday and the extent of that injury is also uncertain. Skipper Chad Liddell is also coming off an injury spell and played his first game back on Saturday. Fortunately, the Zebras have good depth but it will be a tough ask on Saturday against the Seagulls who will have about 20 Magpie listed players to choose from - a stark contrast to Sandy's situation. If the Zebs can kick straight this week they are still a very good show - especially with their home ground advantage.

After week one, players must qualify under a complex set of rules. Melbourne's list of qualified players as published in the VFL Record is:-

Jumper Name Date of Birth Height Weight

26. Heath Neville 02.02.1988 186 83

27. Chris Johnson 25.01.1986 188 87

29. Michael Newton 27.04.1987 193 87

34. Lynden Dunn 14.05.1987 192 90

35. Ryan Ferguson 29.09.1981 195 93

37. Matthew Warnock 03.04.1984 192 93

38. Daniel Hughes ® 10.12.1986 186 82

40. Mark Jamar 09.08.1983 198 103

41. Simon Buckley 18.04.1987 190 87

43. Clint Bizzell 28.06.1976 188 85

44. Colin Garland 28.04.1988 191 84

47. Daniel Hayes ® 13.07.1988 180 70

48. Jace Bode ® 14.09.1987 183 80

49. Shane Neaves ® 11.05.1987 198 90

70. Adem Yze * 21.09.1977 187 85

73. Byron Pickett 11.08.1977 179 86

79. Matthew Whelan * 13.11.1979 180 84

* = injured player ® = rookie listed player

I think you could add to that list, Isaac Weetra who made his debut in the seniors on Saturday so FWIW -

28. Isaac Weetra 27.02.1989 184 76

Effectively, after week one of the finals Sandy should be at pretty much full strength.

    ALLY’S FIELDS by Meggs

It was a sunny morning at Casey Fields, as Demon supporters young and old formed a guard of honour for fan favourite and 50-gamer Alyssa Bannan.  Banno’s banner stated the speedster was the ‘fastest 50 games’ by an AFLW player ever.   For Dees supporters, today was not our day and unfortunately not for Banno either. A couple of opportunities emerged for our number 6 but alas there was no sizzle.   Brisbane atoned for last week’s record loss to North Melbourne, comprehensively out

    GOOD MORNING by Meggs

If you are driving or training it to Cranbourne on Saturday, don’t forget to set your alarm clock. The Melbourne Demons play the reigning premiers Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields this Saturday, with the bounce of the ball at 11:05am.  Yes, that’s AM.   The AFLW fixture shows deference to the AFL men’s finals games.  So, for the men it’s good afternoon and good evening and for the women it’s good morning.     The Lions were wounded last week by 44 points, their highest ever los

    HORE ON FIRE by Meggs

The 40,000 seat $319 million redeveloped Kardinia Park Stadium was nowhere near capacity last night but the strong, noisy contingent of Melbourne supporters led by the DeeArmy journeyed to Geelong to witness a high-quality battle between two of the best teams in AFLW.   The Cats entered the arena to the blasting sounds of Zombie Nation and made a hot start kicking the first 2 goals. They brought tremendous forward half pressure, and our newly renovated defensive unit looked shaky.

    REMATCH by Meggs

The Mighty Demons take on the confident Cats this Saturday night at the recently completed $319 million redeveloped GMHBA Stadium, with the bounce of the ball at 7:15pm. Our last game of 2023 was an agonisingly close 5-point semi-final loss to Geelong, and we look forward to Melbourne turning the tables this week. Practice match form was scratchy for both teams with the Demons losing practice matches to Carlton and Port Adelaide, while the Cats beat Collingwood but then lost to Essendo

    WELCOME 2024 by Meggs

It’s been hard to miss the seismic global momentum happening in Women’s sport of late. The Matildas have been playing to record sell-out crowds across Australia and ‘Mary Fowler is God’ is chalked onto footpaths everywhere. WNBA basketball rookie sensation Caitlin Clark has almost single-handedly elevated her Indiana Fever team to unprecedented viewership, attendances and playoffs in the USA.   Our female Aussie Paris 2024 Olympians won 13 out of Australia’s all-time record 18 gol

    EPILOGUE by Whispering Jack

I sit huddled in near darkness, the only light coming through flickering embers in a damp fireplace, the room in total silence after the thunderstorm died. I wonder if they bothered to restart the game.  No point really. It was over before it started. The team’s five star generals in defence and midfield ruled out of the fray, a few others missing in action against superior enemy firepower and too few left to fly the flag for the field marshal defiantly leading his outnumbered army int

    POSTGAME: Rd 24 vs Collingwood

The Dees played insipid, error riddled & uninspiring footy all night and in a lightning delayed match they eventually succumbed to Collingwood by 46 points at the MCG in the final game of the year. Thank God this season is finally over. Bring on 2025.
