Thanks for the tip ...  cheers bro !

Yeah, a bit of a step up in quality over tonight's game!

It's a bit of a pity it's not the Brazil of old with Socrates & Zico et al

The opposition wasn't much but we played alright.  The win puts the Aussies back in the picture at least

Top 2 in the group is still attainable but we'll need to get at least 2 of 4 wins against the Saudi's & Japan (and that's a big ask)

3rd or 4th in the group advances the team to the next qualifying round.  Top 2 straight to the WC

World Cup qualifier v Japan.

Japan 0 - Socceroos 1 (own goal, lol), 65 minutes gone.

Now 1 -1 . (Another own goal !!)

Gee wiz. Always an interesting time to sack a manager.

Well 'ten Hag' getting sacked seems to have been a long time coming

Almost every week there has some sort of story that he was on thin ice

Man Utd reminds me of the VRC (Racing Victoria) ... not knowing what to about the free spending and successful noisy neighbour (Man City & NSW Racing)

Mind you, Man City could have some big issues soon enough what with the investigation re their true & accurate financial situation

And for what it's worth, the head of NSW Racing (Peter V'landys) is a true visionary with bucket loads of money at his disposal

Ruben Amorim officially named as Man Utd manager.

Liverpool was right into him until he decided to meet with West Ham and we moved on. I personally would have liked to give him a shot but it was something completely different to what Klopp had engrained in the club.

For United though, it could be anything, he's a young coach who plays with 3 at the back and with true wing-backs.

Will it work? No idea. But it will be different and it will be exciting to watch if the right players are involved.

Spurs beat Man CIty 4-nil at Man City!!

Opens the door for Liverpool to now skip ahead in the race for the title

But the result was a shock both ways - A huge away win for Spurs and a shocking loss for City

We've actually got a decent record against them in the Pep era, stretching back to Poch days and including a few good away wins.

Losing to Ipswich at home and then thumping City away is the most Spursy thing ever.

Ha!  (The Spursy thing)

So, Liverpool have skipped away to an 8 point lead but it's not quite theirs to lose just yet

One can see Man City rallying if and when they get back on track

Liverpool are at home to Man City next Monday morning (3.00am)

Arsenal & Chelsea are lurking as well but either team would need to go on a reasonably long winning streak to challenge

It's going well for the moment, Slot has kept a lot of the Klopp philosophy and the high presses are still there with everyone stepping up and doing their bit. I love the way he uses Endo and brings him on late with a lead for some solidarity.

However the squad is pretty thin and the real test will be when we start picking up a few injuries. I do see some points being dropped in that scenario unless there is a dream run. The contract talk of Salah, Alexander-Arnold and VVD will start to intensify as we go into December so how much of a distraction that turns out to be will factor in as well.

Will see where things sit at the new year. The game against City this week will tell a lot!

3.00am tomorrow morning (Monday)

Liverpool vs Man City

Season definer, win lose or draw.  A draw suits Liverpool way more than Man City

In fact, City have to win the match as they can't assume that Liverpool will be dropping points in a hurry

One for the old schoolers this morning as Newcastle and Liverpool finished 3-3. Historically these two sides don't do boring games!

Arsenal, City and Chelsea all winning so with only 14 games played the lead at the top isn't as big as it seems. A lot can happen in December.

Fantastic result! Have followed Crystal Palace since the Dees announced a reciprocal membership deal back in the 80's. I'm sure that deal is long gone, but it started a life long love of Palace for me. The FA Cup is the first silverware in their entire history! (Founded 1861).

Was able to watch live on Optus Sport and have no chance of sleeping now. Hope I can stay awake to watch the Dees vs Lions.

Yeah, well done!!

164 years is a reasonable wait for a major trophy!!

Although, winning the Championship or Division 2 x 8 are also achievements especially for a non-big club

My Hammers for instance have a similar record ... more knock out trophies as such but nonetheless, any sort of trophy is hard earned

So Palace have now earned a spot in the Europa league for next season ... which is another trophy worth fighting for

Speaking of which ... Tottenham & Man Utd go at it for the Europa League trophy at 5.00am on Thursday

Thanks Macca.

It's incredible to think that getting 1 more point from the remaining 2 games will see Palace have their best Premier League finish ever.

Until Sunday morning, I clutched at these results. Playing Europa will be surreal and hopefully will get Palace to be a more attractive proposition for the best players and they can become a regular top half club in the years to come.

It's results at the highest level that earn overall respect. Who other than Western Bulldogs supporters know that Footscray won 9 VFA flags before their first VFL flag in '54.

Palace play Wolves tomorrow at 5am and will do our best to beat then so the Hammers can climb above them. 😉 Always had a soft spot for West Ham so here's hoping.

Another 5am start for the Europa next day. 🫰for Ange. Final game for us Monday morning against Liverpool, my brother and eldest sons team. 🤮.

Let's hope it's another good week for the red and the blue.

The 2 secondary trophy's up for grabs in Europe now means that more teams from the big leagues have something to aim for (notably the EPL but also Serie A, La Liga, and the Bundesliga)

FA Cup winners and even teams finishing as low as 7th or 8th can get a ticket into the European knock-out comps

For instance, a number of teams in the EPL have something to play for in the last week of competition (CL spots up for grabs)

I also really like the new Champions League concept with the 9 lead up games played to obtain a position in the knock-out rounds

Saw a journo on Twitter who said

"Football fandom is a largely obligatory existence where lows are stronger than highs. But this lifelong routine is interspersed with moments of joy so powerful that they eclipse everything, make everything else in life temporarily irrelevant and makes all the [censored] worthwhile."

Reminds me of my time as a Dees supporter.

Enjoy the win.

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

The media has performed a complete reversal in its coverage of the Melbourne Football Club over the past month and a half. Having endured intense criticism from all quarters in the press, which continually identified new avenues for scrutiny of every aspect, both on and off the field, and prematurely speculated about the departures of coaches, players, officials, and various employees from a club that lost its first five matches and appeared out of finals contention, the narrative has suddenly shifted to one of unbridled optimism.  The Demons have won five of their last six matches, positioning themselves just one game (and a considerable amount of percentage) outside the top eight at the halfway mark of the season. They still trail the primary contenders and remain far from assured of a finals berth.

  • REPORT: Sydney

A few weeks ago, I visited a fellow Melbourne Football Club supporter in hospital, and our conversation inevitably shifted from his health diagnosis to the well-being of our football team. Like him, Melbourne had faced challenges in recent months, but an intervention - in his case, surgery, and in the team's case, a change in game style - had brought about much improvement.  The team's professionals had altered its game style from a pedestrian and slow-moving approach, which yielded an average of merely 60 points for five winless games, to a faster and more direct style. This shift led to three consecutive wins and a strong competitive effort in the fourth game, albeit with a tired finish against Hawthorn, a strong premiership contender.  As we discussed our team's recent health improvement, I shared my observations on the changes within the team, including the refreshed style, the introduction of new young talent, such as rising stars Caleb Windsor, Harvey Langford, and Xavier Lindsay, and the rebranding of Kozzy Pickett from a small forward to a midfield machine who can still get among the goals. I also highlighted the dominance of captain Max Gawn in the ruck and the resurgence in form in a big way of midfield superstars Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver.

The Demons controlled the contest from the outset, though inaccurate kicking kept the Swans in the game until half time. But after the break, Melbourne put on the jets and blew Sydney away and the demolition job was complete.
