Agree.

I'd add that Luker is instinctively hyper competitive, and I don't think jeffo is. And all coached love natural competitors.

That daid Jeffo probably has more natural talent. I'm not selling my Jeffo shares yet

Me either. I think the 3 of them will work well together once they are all more AFL ready. I think both Kentfield and Jefferson will play games this year.

I'm sorry picket, but as a card carrying member of IPS (International Pedant Society), I have to say that makes no @$%@&^ sense!

The Nova? Sure. The Astor? Absolutely. Village? OK.

But Home Theatre System as a play on Cinema? Nup.

I mean a home theatre is almost literally the opposite of a cinema!

What about “Flicks” as a nickname? Do some people still say “ let’s go to the flicks “. ( cinema”)

That was Don Adams of Get Smart fame. Although l’m not writing off Jed, after all he did get a gig in the Beverley Hillbillies.

Tough gig being the sole tall defender doubt he’ll ever be a gorilla keeper. But he did not disgrace himself in his debut game last year. Some company with an experienced key defender may give him confidence. He does have some neat skills and has the desired modern football athletic profile.

I didn't find Kentfield's performance overly compelling (not to knock him - I'm a fan). I think Jeffo had the better game and would expect him to be first in the pecking order for selection.

What may complicate things is Kentfield's ability to chop out in the ruck

I hear you & don’t necessarily disagree, I just think the way Kentfield plays translates better to the AFL than Jefferson. Kentfield is a stronger body allowing him to be a better body on body forward with a great set of hands…I just hope the Jefferson isn’t in the very good VFL player whose game just doesn’t translate with their body type…

I have little doubt Kentfield debut’s round 1 if he doesn’t get injured - I think he’s jumped Jefferson based on what he brings

Well as we know Werridee... We had our chance to trade him... I would have in a heartbeat!

I think you’re greatly underestimating the impact Petty has had…he was good against the Suns in a utility role

Yep true, but over the journey and in my view the jury is still out!

Thanks to all those who have posted

I find the suggestion above that AJ could be worth a try as a KPD interesting. He may have more openings for that role than as a KPF and we have far greater need for that

Petty has been scratchy for quiet a while. So far this year he's battled hard & been serviceable.

Needs to step it up a bit & find a vein of solid form.

Hard nosed midfielder Luis D’Angelo was relentless in last Sunday’s game against Box Hill - he amassed eight clearances and 13 contested possessions to take out the club’s Trademark Player of the Week

some of those clunk marks he took on the weekend when we went long down the line were excellent - he's always had strong hands in the contest

I think your being kind to him. Horrible against Carlton and Fremantle. Hardly touched it against Gold Coast the only servicable game he has had is against the Saints.

I think the defence has struggled at times in all our games so far. Not one player has stood out.

I reckon they are trying to learn new roles & jell together. I have however been impressed at how they have improved as the each game went on & generally got on top of the opposition forwards apart from Freo.

Thry are a work in progress.

  • PREVIEW: Essendon

Not long ago, the narrative surrounding Melbourne was steeped in pessimism. There was some concern among the pundits (and even some fans) that the club would arrive at the AFL’s Gather Round still winless, vulnerable to a familiar adversary in the Essendon Football Club, and facing significant scrutiny from an ever-critical media on a national stage. Things have changed.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

Steven King astutely identified the issues that had plagued the Melbourne Football Club over the past two and a half seasons when he auditioned for the newly created coaching role. The side that had claimed the 2021 premiership had become stodgy, slow-paced, and hesitant to take the initiative.

  • PODCAST: Gold Coast

I’ll be away for the next few weeks, so Binman will be holding the fort for our podcasts covering the Suns, Bombers and Lions matches. As a result, there will be no live podcasts during this period, and we won’t be taking calls or voicemails. Binman will still be dipping into this thread to select a few questions to answer, while also combining the long-form Stats Files podcast with the Demonland Podcast for these shows. Your questions and comments are a huge part of what makes the podcast work, so please post anything you’d like to ask or say below and we’ll do our best to give you a shout-out on the show. Please try to keep each post focused on one specific topic or player to make podcast preparation a little easier. If you have multiple topics you’d like to raise, please put them in separate posts.
