Invisible Viney

Didn't we have quite a few invisible players last year? 🙄

I like it.

If Buckley was coach he would have had much more power to demand his own people than King.

And King doesn't have the same resources at his disposal as Buckley would have.

So instead he is his building a champagne team on a beer budget.

Keeping a core of existing staff that have a positive connection with players, and presumably people he gets along with amd rates. Chaplin is the key such assistant.

And adding some quality part timers he trusts and has history with.

Quality over quantity.

Sometimes guys coming in here and there are a fresh voice and their words have more impact - particularly if they are greats of the game like Scarlett, Hawkins etc.

Listening to the same coach week in week out can be a little monotonous depending on their message delivery.

Yeah, Jed could be Clampett or (Adam's) Apple or Jed Adams could be pared down to Dada. Luker could be Yoda. Then again these guys are paid to play footy, not sing or make nicknames or get ideas off a fan site.

Following those ‘obscure’ nicknames, I was thinking that Onley could have the nickname of either Roy or Orb, after Roy Orbison (Only the Lonely).

Or Yody

I reckon we could braindtorm some good ones for every player. But even if the trackwatchers passed them onto the players I doubt it'd change much. I like Orb (or Malone from On my Pat Malone or Bear from synonym barely). But I think mostly that if I want to be casual and mention Gawny, Ghosty ( or even the well-known singer as Swifty or Tay Tay) the audience doesnt ask "who?"

I reckon Gus was a major contributor to the better nicknames.

I think he came up with "halfway" for Blake Haus.

Btw @Ghostwriter i too use the playing list for sleeping aide. A finite, simple list that i rarely get past #20 befpre the zzzs come. Looking at the time (1.27am) i might go and have go right now!

It's funny reading these memory 'techniques' here. 😂 Going over stuff close to when one falls asleep or soon upon waking is good. But repetition is so primitive. This is a footy forum and plenty of memory stuff is online but there's lots of good memory techniques out there. Famous examples are the Major system (where 0 is converted to S or Z and 1 converts to T or D (and '01' could become SEAT or SEED or ZIT or SUIT)) and Memory Palaces (where you have a sequence of locations, such as, say, May at point #1, say, your letterbox, a Roo (or just Van Rooyen himself) at point #2 (say, your welcome mat) through to a chandelier (Chandler), say, at the back doorstep and eventually Henderson and Johnson at the back fence plus using association where words or images help embed stuff into one's memory. (Even cheesy stuff like LangFOURd and nine sounding like 'nun' and former Saint Steele now with that jumper number can help memory.)

If anyone wants to memorise the players' numbers it's a lot easier to do than you might think.

Yep. Nicknames either stick straight away or not at all. You can't force them.

It's bad enough he gets Kenterfield. Anyway Luker is too close to Luka. 🙂

What about 'Warmer'?

As Andy has explained (above) the sausage sizzle is on Saturday 13th December at 8:30am at Gosch’s.

For Friday’s session hungry little devils/demons will have to make do with food brought from home, or if you’re happy to spend a small fortune food from Edwin’s Cafe (on the outside of AAMI) is pretty good. There’s numerous eateries in Swan Street (a couple of minutes away from Gosch’s) as well as a Coles supermarket.

Last resort: you can get coffee and hot food and snacks from the kiosk at Richmond station. I’d strongly advise against buying a sandwich from there though. I recently warned another track-watcher who’s also a Demonlander and he went ahead and had a sanga and immediately regretted it.

To said track-watcher/Demonlander: I’m not one to say I told you so, but… I did tell you so! 😝

South Yarra kiosk used to do decent food, but it's been a while since I passed through.

I was thinking about food/coffee places that are walking distance from Gosch’s.

I didn’t know until today that if you leave Richmond station from the opposite side (as if you’re walking to the ‘G) there’s a cafe and apparently they make really good coffee.

Curse the owners of Pink Lemonade for permanently closing the coffee Kiosk that was right outside Richmond station (Swan Street side). The coffee was superb and it was served by Alejandro, the lovely Colombian barista.

Agree.

And another positive factor is given their areas of expertise, and the fact that are only part time, Scarlett and Hawkins will likely have a pretty narrow brief - that's to say they will focus on specific elements of defensive craft and forward craft respectively.

How good would it be for a young defender like Xavier Taylor to have a defender of Scarlett's skill and knowledge help develop intercept skills, or Disco his one-on-one positioning.

And players like JVR and Luker will love being able to discuss specific forward skills (eg timing leads, use of the body etc) with Hawkins, one of the best key forwards of the last 20 years.
