Tigers thinking about taking Grlj after Cumming at pick 4* would really change the landscape of the night for us ๐Ÿ‘€

Does this have legs? Surely theyโ€™d want to try and secure a trade with a team like us so that they can still take Grij while banking an extra pick or two

Seems like they have tried and canโ€™t work a way to do it with much incentive. So they may just take him at 4.

Again, canโ€™t see the Bombers risking Sharp getting to their pick 9.

Leaves Xavier Taylor in our lap if the Tigers shake things up. They went a bit unconventional last year, feels like theyโ€™re doing the same this year.

Is it just 10 players selected tonight? As in, if all the F/S and acadamy picks go as predicted, our two picks will occur on Thursday?

First round tonight mate (27 picks!)

Weโ€™ll have two tonight then one tomorrow.

Nope. The first round is likely to have 26-28 picks tonight. All the rest tomorrow night. Rookie draft on Friday afternoon.

Is the thinking Robey is too similar to Smillie?

We could do 7 to WC for 13 and F2 so they could get Farrow and we could still get Nairn (or Pickett if Nairn is gone) and then 8 and F2 to Richmond for 4 so they still get Grjl and we take whomever out of Cumming and Robey they don't.

Nope, the full 1st rd is tonight

Thanks - I very much hope so

And FWIW I actually think Grij would compliment Cumming and their current mix beautifully

But of course I rate Grij a lot (and wish we were more interested tbh)

Surely bombers would just take Taylor and Robey then be happy with whichever one of Farrow or Sharp is available?

Would be a nice result for us, although if I'm Essendon I'm picking the 3 Eastern Ranges boys. Which could work for us if Adelaide put their future first rounder and 16 on the table for Sharp and we can do the patient thing for once.

As the Tigers have Smillie, Taranto, Hopper, Ralphsmith, Prestia and a few other mids who are mainly big bodied and slow, could they see Robey as being the same and look for the pacier mid.

If that happened, could the Bombers take Sharp and Taylor and then Dovaston with their next pick, leaving Robey for us?

I suppose it could, but it won't.

If there are two players we really like at 7 and 8 then weโ€™d be better off just picking them than taking the chance that weโ€™ll get one player we really like and two players we kind of like (pick 13 and F2).

Completely agree, and i think the thing with this draft is it seems to be pretty even and open, i don't think the gap between the first 12 or so prospects is all that big and so getting two of them that we like and we're happy with is a good outcome, and then next year we get 2 more picks again

Iโ€™m being very nit-picky here but ralphsmith surely isnโ€™t classified as a big bodied slow midfielder

Well I got the first one right.

I donโ€™t think Taranto, Hipper or especially Prestia played a role but Lalor, Smillie and even Hotton are all see ball get ball players without a lot of defensive game.

A runner with their second pick was always likely. Then Cumming is the most team orientated and defensive of the mid/forward types. Youโ€™re spot on that he fits better than Robey.

Structurally weโ€™ve missed a player in the back half who switch play aggressively and with distance.

We also miss another small forward who can convert chances into goals.

In the spirit of @rpfc just admiring my own brilliance.

Thanks for reading my posts JT.

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourneโ€™s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time atย Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.

  • REPORT: Carlton

The text messages started flooding in shortly after quarter time. One read: โ€œIs Melbourne even at the ground?โ€ Moments later, as Carltonโ€™s Elijah Hollands kicked the first goal of the second term, the Blues held a commanding 43-point lead. By then, the Demonsโ€™ only score was a behind kicked by Brody Mihocek nearly five minutes into the game. Ironically, Mihocek would also register the last minor score of the day after the game took a dramatic turnaround.ย
