Iโ€™m honestly not surprised at what this thread has turned into.

I think itโ€™s perfectly reasonable to assume that Clarry was upset to find out that the club may not be as all in on him, as he is on them.

We heard in the morning from the media that it appears like Clarry may be available, and it would have taken a 15 minute phone call to his manager on Friday to arrange a meeting with GWS the next day. How long do you think weโ€™ve been planning that impromptu walk around the tan with Humphrey? My bet is no more than a day or two.

An opportunity presented and player/club/manager jumped on it. Hardly unusual and hardly a sign that Clarry has planned this all along.

Either way, what we know for sure is that King wants change.

I hope that whatever happens from here, Clarry is happy and healthy and is somewhere he feels wanted. Regardless of what you think of him, heโ€™s still a person who has given a hell of a lot to this club and he deserves to be well.

Yes of course. There was no indication of poor fitness in his last game of the season against Collingwood. Thought he looked fine.

Yes of course. He looked like he was pretty fit v Collingwood last game of the season. Had an elite game.

Elite game, didn't poll a coaches vote ๐Ÿค”

Shows how far the standards have slipped.

I'm baffled by the different timelines that people are using to bolster their positions. I understood that the sequence was: Oliver meets King - immediately goes to airport to Sydney for his overseas trip - meets with GWS on boat. Was it all in one day or over 2 days?

Met with King on Thursday. Meeting was scheduled last minute as Clarry had a flight to catch that day which was booked a while ago. USA trip via Sydney (probably flying Sydney to LA- done that one myself for work many times).

The leaks to the media started even before the meeting which is what is truly concerning here. Either Clarryโ€™s management got a stench of trouble coming, or someone internally leaked it. Either way Clarryโ€™s manager would have been on the phone to I assume both GWS and Sydney knowing Clarry was heading there anyway and with them both having shown interest in him previously/ throughout the year.

He then met GWS yesterday. It literally doesnโ€™t take that long to arrange a catch up. We are not living in the dark ages. And GWS knowing they had a small window to meet Clarry before he headed off on his planned overseas trip, made it happen quickly.

Itโ€™s not that difficult to understand, and it absolutely doesnโ€™t point to Clarry planning to leave all along.

Clarry was all in on staying. We even heard it from his manager. Things obviously changed when King got to the club and was probably told some things he didnโ€™t fully know about.

So he'd already arranged a meeting with GWS before the meeting with King?

i'd imagine his manager did after being informed by clarry or the club for clarry to test the waters. would have been a rush job.

can't see clarry getting on the phone himself to gws

if there had been any interest in clarry before the meeting that would have all gone through his manager

Rare to book a connection via Sydney lasting a couple of days though. I normally book flights overseas to link up. Must have a terrible travel agent.

Thanks. I don't doubt your timeline, but surprised that anyone travelling from Melb to USA would plan an overnight stay in Sydney rather than just transfer terminals at Kingsford Smith.

Yeah exactly, so was a response to the discussion he had with King/MFC. It's what I thought too, was just trying to clarify as the other poster made it sound as though they thought there was no relationship between the two which I found unfathomable.

Ah ha - also explains why he didn't try to find a flight direct from Melb to USA.

Or, wait for it, he has friends in Sydney he wanted to catch up with on the way.

Also possible that he pushed his flight out by a day to accommodate a last minute meeting with GWS.

Itโ€™s not that hard to figure out.

He is actually very good friends with Toby.

They were very close when Toby was at Melbourne.

I know exactly what he's been through right on a personal level i know his family and his knockabout mates he hangs out with up here. Worked with him when he was at the Murray Bushrangers and even then he obviously needed a lot of growing up to do. Not much has since change.

You on the other hand dont exact know what he's been through and the [censored] he put the club through because you're so incredibly blinded by your rosy red and blue glasses.. I mean look how thats worked out with McVee lol

Its about time we get a coach that actually wants to change this culture and set incredibly high standards instead of babysitting someone that cant take the most simple of constructive feedback provided to them.

Okay

Fair enough. I have no idea if Toby was there. I just know theyโ€™re good mates.

It's a bit rough when we start shooting arrows into oppo players.

Iโ€™m kinda confused what the point of this thread is now if Iโ€™m being honest.

I lost the core of the argument like 5 pages ago

It was just ash and Callahan from the playing group :)

And Stringer and Green.

But to get the CEO and the coach on the boat as well suggests it may have already been planned?

The premiership defender has shown signs of wear and tear due to age, and his 2025 season was inconsistent, ending poorly with a suspension and a noticeable decline in performance. The Demons are eager to integrate younger players onto their list and have indicated that they may not be able to guarantee him senior games next season, in what would be the final year of his contract.

The young key tall failed to make progress during the season, with a decline in his goal kicking output. His secondary role as a backup ruckman, which may have hindered his ability to further develop his game, and he was also impacted by the team's poor forward connection. It will be interesting to observe his performance under a new coaching regime.
