Not that I am an expert, however why have Matt Lloyd or Richardson never been forwards coaches?

They both speak well for the most part, maybe Richo sometimes not.

Both brilliant forwards of their time.

Maybe too long ago?

Even Riwoldt(s)?

What exactly would make a good forward coach?

...because it's much easier getting a good media pay packet and firing shots from the sidelines without any recriminations.

Reading between the lines two things worked against him with mfc:

  • thinking the game plan doesn't matter much when mfc had wanted a more attacking style.

  • He is terribly out of date on technology and its use in every facet of coaching.

Simply put he isn't experienced enough in today's coaching and what is important.

I wonder if the AFL 'suggested' to him to get some current experience before taking over Tassie, if it ever happens.

Buckly have a dose of Kingy's sloppy seconds not once, but twice!

Bucks taking the Cats gig is either him being asked to do a refresher course before he is given the no-expectations Tassie gig, or working under Chris Scott really was/is a more appealing prospect than coaching the Dees right now?

The Scott assistant wasn't in the wings at the time of the mfc coaching gig. King had no problem choosing between Scott assistant and Dee's main guy!

As noted in my earlier post, agree with you it was most probably at AFL 'suggestion'. So 'parachuted' into the job!

I agree with you (as plausible as it is right now that some targets may rightfully see us as a basket case/too hard basket).

It should also be noted that while King could have taken the Cats role, unlike Bucks, he doesn't have the Tassie or any other gig as a lock to fall back on. he may have seen us as the only current opportunity to get a main coaching gig. But with that in mind, I still agree Bucks' role is a parachute, mandatory AFL training course.

Paul Guerra

“We have landed Matthew Scarlett which is fabulous. We’ve got one other that we’re talking to at the moment that might have worn the number 26 at Geelong (Tom Hawkins), who wants to come in for a day a week as well.

King is putting together a nice mix of players previously connected to Geelong and to the Dees. Bodes well for synergy and consistent messaging.

It is similar to Roos bringing in people he knows he can work with from the get go, as like Roos he won't have time to teach and manage a whole new coaching group.

He knows he can delegate to those guys and the job will get done.

I feel more optimistic by the day 🙂❤️💙

Beauty about bringing people from Geelong is that they know what breeds success with high elite standards, and yes I'm adding Rivers to that because he played at Geelong for a couple of years.

The thought of Hawkins educating our young forwards is bloody exciting.

Any more word on Teague? Reading the Guerra article this morning it seems like Hawkins might be the last appointment (other than that possible Head of Strategy role that was flagged last month)

There's no way we go just with Jones as midfield coach next year. He's too green.

I read or heard somewhere Nathan Jones referred to as "midfield coach", I think it was in relation to the Steele recruitment.

Agree but maybe it's King's special subject and he can cover the gap on strategy and Jones can manage execution.

Yes, he is, but I reckon they'll bring in a ball movement and/or stoppage coach too.

Interesting idea.

This is what I’d be hoping for

Teague was a poor head coach (or maybe Carlton was just a mess when he got the job), but he’s always been very strong on offense and ball movement

Would love to get another experienced tactical head in

If that's the penalty for making a mistake, we are really setting high standards.

  • CASEY: Richmond

The winds finally returned to Casey Fields for the Demons’ third home game of the VFL season, and its impact was immediate. After two opening rounds played in uncharacteristically fine conditions, the Anzac Day clash brought back the familiar gusty conditions that have been a feature of the region at this time of the year.
Forced to kick into the breeze first, the slow-starting Demons faced a tricky opening against an enthusiastic young Tigers outfit. Casey responded by turning the contest into a scramble, pressuring Richmond into errors and missed targets. The tactic proved crucial, keeping the game tight for three and a half quarters before the Demons pulled away with the autumn wind at their backs.
