Must admit that playing Petty forward baffles me.

He's the obvious choice to replace May whose career is coming to an end.

We have five or six tall forwards of varying ability. Play them in this irrelevant season.

Laurie should also have got a bloc of games and resting/rotating Viney, Lagdon Langford etc. Bill might just click with the modern passing game but at least we would know.

Jefferson should have got another week at AFL level to show form.

Good luck to Oscar P in Belgium this weekend

Thankyou.

I'm afraid that Goody is as well.

These picks suggest a man trying to salvage his job.

Definitely time for him to go now.

Jefferson wasn't great but it was I believe his best game in only a handful of seemingly trending upwards.

And then we drop the poor kid.

Way to install confidence.

And after two years, Goody still can't accept that Petty isn't a fwd. What's that all about?

Do we think the young players love Goody as much as the seniors? Simon probably doesn't instil much confidence in the young brigade.

All players should be considered for senior selection given our season is cactus, it’s the perfect opportunity imo but won’t happen which is obvious with team selections each week.

I feel for Jeffo, his games have been very average at best but it’s too early to say he won’t make it. He has his moments but seems to lack confidence

As coach Goodwin should be trying to build his confidence rather than treating him like a yoyo. Poor kid probably doesn’t know if he is coming or going which would no doubt affect his game.

Goodwin seems desperate again like he was after losing 5 in a row to start the season and if the coach is coming across like this it will be felt by the playing group.

It’s time to move Goodwin on.

Agree with your comments on MJ. He's usually clean with his hands and a good kick, so I put the dropped chest mark and set shot miskick down to nerves and not skill. I like that he's getting to more contests and having a crack. Keen to see the club stick with him. I think he's got more to gain by playing AFL than VFL at this stage.

What about how he fails to keep his feet in contests, i.e. goes to ground?

How many dropped chest mark scan we tolerate? He’s never dominated a reserves game the way AJ did last match( admittedly v weak opposition)

I think its fair for Jeffo to go back to the VFL after an ordinary game which young players have. At least he knows what he has to do over the preseason.

Who knows he may get another game this season.

We’re playing St Kilda again when I’m still [censored] off after the round 12 effort against them. Gotta love the AFL draw

Rookie question: Can anyone please let me know how to locate Membership barcode in MFC app so I can grab tickets to game? I can only locate my member number :(

I have a relative who works in strength and conditioning at an AFL team. He basically said you'd easily find 10-15 players who don't like the senior coach (hint, it's the ones not getting picked).

I don't think you can. At least I couodn't when i tried to last year. The website is dead-set disgraceful on that front. Apparently people have had success calling the club and getting barcodes sent to them for entry as members. May be worth a try?

Open MFC app

Click on "mobile membership". On my app it is icon at the bottom of the page, and in the middle of the line.

"Upcoming" opens, click on the game you want. "My tickets" comes up. Click on "view ticket".

Barcode comes up.

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

It seems like only yesterday that these two sides faced off against each other in the centre of the continent. It was when Melbourne was experiencing a rare period of success with five wins from its previous six matches including victories over both of last year’s grand finalists.  Well, it wasn’t yesterday but it was early last month and it remains etched clearly in the memory. The Saints were going through a slump and the predicted outcome of their encounter at TIO Traeger Park was a virtual no-brainer. A Melbourne victory and another step closer to a possible rise into finals contention. Something that was unthinkable after opening the season with five straight defeats.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.
