Barry Hall....a shocker

I was watching Syd /Coll tonight, barracking for Sydney. After a while, I started hoping their midfield would look for someone other than big, bad, bustling,BUTTER-FINGERED Bazz. Not only did he drop his head when going for high marks, but spilled chest marks repeatedly ,and kicked like a lame giraffe as well.

For a big guy, he moves well, but he can't take an overhead mark to save his life.

He's had a shocking year, his only decent game being against us, when Brad Miller made the fundamental mistake of stirring him up from the outset.

He played brilliantly in the '05 GF(a disgrace he wasn't suspended from the prelim), but it wasn't through marking, but leading upfield, Miller-like,and using the ball well.

His true form was displayed in the 06 Gf, where he hardly got a kick, and since they lost by a point, it would have been handy if he did!

Summing it up,I reckon he's over-rated. Especially since now players can't push in the back, a skill at which he is a past master.

Big bad Bazz is a gun,

Don’t be naive. Like Neitz doesn't get any help form the umps. currently in a form slump he stills presents and makes a target. They don’t need to kick 5 goals a game. Big blokes are the biggest commodities in this game so before we go bagging out a premiership player perhaps we could look at our severe lack of quality KPP.

Are you insinuating Baz couldn't get a game for Melb.....

Baz is a gun and that’s why in form he is a top 10 player in the comp.

I agree in many aspects but when Barry Hall is on he is on!!

Didnt he tear us up?

[quote "Nicho"........'Big bad Bazz is a gun',

"Don’t be naive."

Thanks for the thoughtful assessment of my opinion on Hall's form this year, Nicho.

Interesting that your "nick-name" is "Nicho", since the conventional wisdom among observers was that he wasn't a very good player. I showed my naivety again by thinking he was a very valuable player, and I think this was emphasised last Fri night when Richo tore us apart.

The conventional wisdom is that Hall's a top ten player. On this year's form, I contend that he's not a top 50. Perhaps I'm naive to have a different opinion from "conventional wisdom".

At no time did I suggest your ridiculous assertion that he wouldn't get a game for Melbourne.

I don't know if I'm brave enough to say that Barry Hall is finished as a footballer, but he's just about gone. Last night was not an aberration as you noted, JJC. This was just one of his typical performances for 2007, and time is not on his side. The fact that he's a premiership captain probably helps keep the spotlight off him, but his rancid form shows no sign of abating.

Time to bust out the boxing gloves barry!

swans are an interesting one this year, although they've still managed to win games when they've had players far from their best.

2007 has been awful for and from Hall (maybe he never recovered from last years final and all the criticism he copped)......

And the Sydney press, who have been blowing smoke up his arse for a really long time now are starting to get more than a little a narky about him,

his form and his attitude, as well as the whole Swan win-loss situation. They aren't handling it at all well, poor little things :P !!!

But we should all know better than discount the man or the side.

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
