i dont think its a disgrace. it has nothing to do with the club. it is slightly disappointing though...

Posted

i'd say it has everything to do with the club if it, with the richest history in australian sport, does nothing to shift a home game from an away ground, to our home ground to celebrate its first player, let alone captain, reaching 300 games.

i will no longer refer to the 50s as being in any way, shape or form related to the present club.

45 I don't think few of us her on this site do. With all respect, what's your point?

I am just pleased for Neitz to make it to 300. Celebrate it as he will. Make sure you be there for it if you can.

i guess i would just like to see our club at least fight, hard, to get his 300th at our home ground. surely we could at least put in a submission to switch with the hawthorn brisbane match earlier in the day. an all victorian match with a vic v interstate match. i know i wont be able to be there if its interstate and that really saddens me, but i guess im dying to see him do it at the g. my original post was a bit nuts, but i stand by my desire to see our club fight for its captain, and have respect for history because at the moment it's all we have

Fair enough 45HG...I admire your passion & hear what your saying!! It would be something else if it happened!

hawthorn are playing brisbane on the mcg that day already. the mcg is also being used on friday night. perhaps it could be moved to a sunday game, but there are already 3 games on sunday, including one at TD.

there are contracts in place specifying the number of games played at each venue and at what time. i understand what you are saying, and i wish it could be our home game at our ground, but the mfc does not have a choice. we could lobby, but when has the afl ever done anything like that for us? its not going to make them any money is it?

dont blame the club because david neitz's 300th game happens to fall on a fixtured game away from the mfc. you are being childish.

yes i realise this, that's why i changed my tact to have the club at least try. i see no harm in giving it a crack as it will at least illustrate the club's desire for it to happen. people on this site moan about melbourne 'accepting mediocrity' yet now when i suggest the club argue something for its own game, it's childish. i realise it might not happen, but i don't see one reason why we couldn't put forward a submission to the afl to at least find out if it can be done

sorry i think i was typing while you were posting. im sure if it looks that way we would put in a submission, but if the shoe was on the other foot, would you swap a home game at the g for a game at TD if hawthorn wanted to give cawford his 300th at the G? i wouldnt want to and i dont expect them to do. i would love to be there and see it, and neitz deserves to get it at the G, but there is no point resting him to engineer this gam being at the G, he wouldnt want to sit out for personal glory.

Exactly.

oh absolutely not you're right, but it'd just ease my pain a little if i knew that the club tried to get the game to the g (if it was to be in that situation). i'm not advocating us kicking the hawks off the g i only wanted to use that as a possible example of a route we could chose. i'm starting to think it might not happen, but i'd like to think his goals, captaincy and 300th were all at the g, and sitting at TD watching it unfold would be easier if i knew the club tried to give him the occasion it deserved.

Posted

Doesn't bother me really as I was planning to go to that game anyway. :)

Posted

stuff em. its our ground! maybe we should appeal directly to the mcg trust, organise it to be ok with them first, then we could approach the afl with solution in hand?

Posted

If Neitz was to play his 300th in round 19 here is my solution.

Currently:

Melbourne V Western Bulldogs - TD Sat Night 7:10pm

Kangaroos V West Coast - TD Sun 1:10pm

(no MCG game on Sunday)

Proposal:

Kangaroos V West Coast - TD Sat Night 7:10

Melbourne V Western Bulldogs - MCG Sun 1:10

The only price MFC would have to pay is a 5 day turnaround for their next game against Collingwood.

Its almost too easy. Plus ot would enhance our chances of winning!

i like it...

fwiw kangarros play on saturday night in round 18, in brisbane. west coast play sunday arvo at home against freo.

shortening their week by 1, but not a massive issue.

although i still dont think the afl would move the game for one player lol

Posted

Won't happen, just get over it... Rob Harvey is playing his 350th in perth (supposedly) and nothings been changed there...

Posted

i don't understand how people could not care about our captain becoming the first player in the oldest sporting club in the land to reach 300 games, possibly at a home game away from our home ground. i was livid enough looking at the draw and seeing us play a home game at TD, let alone against a club who's home ground is the TD (just as happened to us last year) before now realising there's a chance it might cost skipper his 300th on home soil.

it probably won't change, but i can guarantee you all now if the dogs get on a roll, and we're sitting on 9-9, there will be more than 50,000 expected to the game.

i realise it won't move, but i hope to see our club fight to get it moved, essentially because it's our third home game away from home as much as anything

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
